You have all gathered together at the site of the castle spoken of in the hiring flyer. It is a massive sprawling stone structure with a Gothic element to it's exterior design. Gargoyles and carven images of women peer down from niches and corners of the stone structure. The old iron wrought gate was open when you arrived, and even the large double doors stood open to receive you. A black and white themed lobby greets you all, with a pair of dual spiral staircases leading to a second floor. Instead of electrical lights, the lobby is lit by candles. Hundreds and hundreds of candles line the walls, stair case, and hang from the ceiling in black chain chandeliers. Due to being flame lit, the shadows have a tendency to flicker and slide across the floor and walls, granting the place a illusion of never being at rest. A door on the second floor slams open, causing a booming sound to echo down into the lobby. The rapid clicking of heels on a stone surface announces the approach of someone from above. A small man with two toned eyes wearing a red long coat over black and white gentleman's garb suddenly pops into view on the balcony overlooking the lobby. A black top hat, decorated with red roses, pearls, and a Ace of Hearts playing card covers his short blond hair. He peers down at the assembled group with a purple eye and a green eye, then breaks into a large smile. "Greetings Adventurers! Or should I call you Maids?" He calls down to you all before he flourishes a decorative cane in a grand sweeping gesture. "Because you have all come to help clean out my castle? Am I right? Oh yes I think I am right. I do enjoy being right." The man bubbles as he tucks the cane under one arm so he can clap his red gloved hands. Either in excitement or congratulations to himself, it is really uncertain. "My name is Galloway Faust! I don't need to know any of your names, it's really not that important." He says as he waves his left hand dismissively. "You all look alike to me from here. Anyways! Off you go! You can wander anywhere you like in the castle tonight, but you really must be gone by morning. Understood? I have a party to plan! Tah-tah!" With another happy little hop, Galloway simply abandoned you all to your own devices. All Adventures You have the following choices for exploration: Quote: 1) A old stone door is set in the furthest corner of the castle. A small draft of cold air filters from around the cracks in it's unpainted framework. It clearly has not been opened in years. 2) A archway off a side hall provides a glimpse of dust covered counters, large stone ovens, and several stoves with pots and pans dangling from overhead hooks. It looks like this might be the Kitchen. 3) Double wide glass doors covered in flaking gold gilt provide a dusty glimpse of a room dominated by the largest table that may have ever been created. Heavy ornate wooden throne like chairs circle the table, while serving tables rest against the walls in equally measured gaps. This must be the Dining Hall. 4) A old oak door with a privacy window offers no clue as to what room might be behind it. 5) A incredibly fancy and oversized single door dominates a wall in the large hallway. The surface of the door is incredibly detailed with images right out of fairy tales, folk lore, and history itself. Gods, demons, fairies, warriors, children, and animals create a collage surrounded by different environments that are both chaotic but strangely well meshed together. Hidden amid the twisting and curling carvings is the word 'Library', which appears only when one stands directly in front of the door itself. 6) A door, newly installed and freshly painted, rests against a wallpapered wall. The woodwork around it is carved with hearts and roses. The one thing that seems outright odd is the fact that despite the door being new, the door handle is clearly as old as the house. The knob itself resembles the twisted grinning face of a gargoyle. (Please include in your post the Number you are picking, just to make certain there are no accidental mix ups on my part. You all have until 10PM EST tomorrow to have made your selection and post it in this thread. Failure to post by the stated time will result in your Adventurer being dropped from the game.)

Sol'drin was taking in the view of the rather impressive castle, both outside and in, as it was waiting for their arrival, and he was busy eyeing the foyer when when flamboyant man came out to greet them. He raised a brow, and was barely listening to his spiel about them being maids and cleaning as he looked at the many doors to investigate. Maids, right. No one would be crazy enough to think that was the real reason they were here. Sure this place probably needed a good cleaning but they weren't going to be using feather dusters, that was for sure.
By the time Galloway was done talking, he had already mentally dismissed him as easily as the man had dismissed them, and headed towards the old stone door in the furthest corner (#1). The others hadn't interested him much at all. It seemed as though it hadn't been opened in a long time, and a slight smirk showed on his face as he wondered if that meant he'd find some forgotten treasures that also might have not been seen in years. Though that probably meant other things were likely to be down here as well. He rested a hand on the pommel of his dagger as he attempted to open it.

If there was anything that the elf hated more, it was blowhards that wasted her time, and the nobleman was certainly one for that. All she cared about was books, and so she headed towards what was obviously the library as soon as he stopped flapping his lips and left. Perhaps she could find some rare books inside. She liked books far more than people.

Romsca wrinkled his freckled nose as the first thing he noticed was that he was the ONLY human that had answered the summons. Guess mankind just wasn't what it used to be. Ah well, it didn't discourage him in the least; he had the utmost confidence that he could hold his own no matter what this strange castle threw at them. It definitely didn't disappoint when it gave them a very strange, flamboyant gentleman going on about 'maids'. Maybe he had just had a drop too many of the drinks he was setting out for his little party.
At any rate, no sense in wasting a perfectly good opportunity to snoop around; you didn't get into a huge castle every day. Looking around, he let the old oak door catch his eye (#4); no strange ornaments or carvings, but the small privacy window piqued his curiosity. Was it for looking in, or for something to look out? Adjusting his dagger hilt just in case it happened to be closer to the latter, Romsca walked over to the door and tried opening it.

Kelina entered the castle she was impressed. It had some interesting architecture. She started to wander around. "Hello!" There was no answer. She saw the word Library(#5) and she wanted to see what was inside. She did quite love libraries. She opened the door...

As Adran entered the castle, his eyes widened.
"Whoa, this place is HUGE!"
As his eyes moved around the room, he noticed an old door.
"Looks like it hasn't been opened in a while..."
Curiously he pushed the door open.

Sol'drin's and Adran's choice of doors greeted them both with stubborn resistance. It's stone surface seemed rather strong despite the years of disuse, or perhaps that was why it appeared so solidly set? Your attempt to open the door was met with a soft clicking sound that would be familar to the keen ears of any Rogue. It was locked! Sol'drin and Adran has the following options available to them: 1) Search for a Key. (Roll 1d20. You will gain a +2 modifier due to your Intelligence and a additional +2 bonus if you have the Search skill) 2) Bash it in! (Roll a d20 to try and smash the door open using your Strength) 3) Pick the lock! ( Roll a d20. Y0u will gain a +5 modifier due to your Dexterity and your Lockpicks item) Laurenthiel and Kelina both converge upon the ornate library door. It swings open soundlessly with ease to reveal a circular room with a mirror floor. The wood carved theme is carried past the door and into the room itself. Not a inch of the curving wood is without some form of carving. Spaced out in a almost random manner are bookshelves set into the wall. Sadly a great many of these bookshelves are devoid of any items that would give the title 'Library' to this room. Though upon a small table beside a dust cloth covered chair there do appear to be some journals. In addition to all of this, a giant fireplace shaped like a open dragons maw looms open. It's eyes, made of silver and mirrored, seem to follow the two elves upon entering the room. Laurenthiel and Kelina have the following options: 1) Inspect the Journals (roll a d20. Your elf will recieve a bonus based on their Wisdom Mod and Decipher Script if they have it) 2) Inspect the Fireplace.(Roll a d20. Your elf will recieve a bonus based on their Intelligence Mod and the Search Skill if they have it) Romsca's door swings open, screeching as it does so in apparent potest at beig opened at all. His chosen room reveals itself to be something of a Sitting room, or perhaps a Trophy room? Maybe a mish mash of the both? Animal heads are mounted on the wall, all turned to stare in eerie silence at the door and whosoever would enter the room. There is a rather old fashioned bar sitting against one wall, with various bottles of spirits in all sorts of colours displayed proudly above crystal glasses. All set up and ready to be sampled. A moderately sized fireplace, and by moderately that means two grown men could easily stand inside of it's stone mouth, has a small fire burning merrily within. Romsca has the following choices: 1) Sample the Minibar! (Roll a d20) 2) Check out the Mounted heads. (Roll a d20. You will recieve a +4 bonus due to your Intel Mod and the Search skill) 3) Check out the Fireplace. (Roll a d20. You will recieve a +4 bonus due to your Intel Mod and the Search skill) (Please include in your post the Number you are picking, just to make certain there are no accidental mix ups on my part. Sol'drin looked mildly annoyed as another elf showed up about the time he tried his chosen door. He ignored them completely as he attempted to unlock the stubborn thing using the lockpicks he had brought with him. Searching for a key would be a waste of time, and he knew brute force would was not feasible with his frame.

Laurenthiel decided that the journals were the way to go - after all - fire wasn't really her thing, and she was sure that the big strong warrior that had entered with her could take the heat far better than she could. "Hmph - a travesty - that they could even try to call this a library, when there are no books but these. No matter - I shall do what I came to do - read."

Romsca found himself a bit puzzled at such an unremarkable door leading to something like a trophy room/bar, where it would be safe to assume that it was a focal point for showing things off instead of keeping them hidden. Now his interest was even more aroused as he looked about curiously. He noted the various drinks laying out, and while he wouldn't mind sampling them, remembering the strange behavior of their host gave him pause. The small blaze made him think that perhaps the gentleman had just started lighting it and it hadn't had time to build to a proper blaze. He was however curious about the various trophy heads; not only would it give him insight on what the owners of this estate were like by what they hunted, but more often than not there would be something a little......extra that the heads would be hiding, such as hidden compartments or maps that some eccentric had scribbled on the wall.

Kelina sighed. "Poor library." It was quite ornate and full of so many cravings. She went to an empty bookshelf and swiped at the dust. She rubbed it off. She watched the other elf head to the journals. "I guess I'll check out this creepy fireplace." She went to the fireplace and and checked around the edges. She really didn't want to be hit with fire...

Sol'drin's attempt to pick the lock seems to be rendering results, though slowly as the inner mechanism is clearly clogged with dust and webbing. There was also a bit of a tricky second mechanism inside the lock that kept resetting the lock every time Sol'drin nearly had it opened. When Adran decided to pick the lock as well, well only one thieves tools could be inserted in the lock at the same time. Or so it would seem. Ardan's keen eyes would notice a second lock hole cleverly hidden between a crack in two of the stones making up the door. Wriggling your lock picks into the second lock, Ardan successfully dismantles the second mechanism that kept Sol'drin from successfully opening his lock. With a rather loud 'snick-snack' the lock on the door slides open. It is only a simple matter then to push the door open. You both find yourselves faced with a 10 x 10 stone room. Badly crumbling stairs line the wall in a upwards spiral. Standing at the bottom, you both can look straight up into a overwhelming darkness. The sound of wind blowing up above can be heard faintly. Empty torch mounts are bolted to the wall above each landing, which appears to be in better condition than the stairs themselves. It seems that Sol'drin and Ardan have discovered the Bell Tower. Sol'drin and Ardan have the following choices: 1) Climb the Stairs. (Roll a d20. A bonus will be added based on your Dex Mod and if you have the Balance Skill) 2) Use your Rope and Hook to climb up to the landings using the Torch Mounts as the anchor. (Roll a d20. A bonus will be added based on your Dex Mod and the Climb Skill) The journals that Laurenthiel chooses to study prove to be badly damaged by time. The covers crack and flake, shedding the faded colored binding like so much ash from a incense stick. The pages, while turned gently, begin to crumble under your delicate touch. The script on the pages is archaic and confusing, but Laruenthiel's mind slowly pieces together their meaning. The greatest of my treasures I dare not display. Hidden deep within the Dragons Maw, there seek the sign of it's flame. (Laurenthiel has discovered a Clue concerning the dragons fireplace. She will gain a +5 bonus to searching the fireplace) Kelina's search of the fireplace will appear to turn up nothing out of the ordinary. The stone floor is smooth and made of three large flat stones. While no fire burns in the fireplace now, a thin layer of ash coats the floor. Inside the fireplace Kelina can see that the chimney, strangely, has been bricked up. Laurenthiel has the following Options: 1) Inspect the Fireplace.(Roll a d20. Your elf will receive a +10 bonus based on their Intelligence Mod the Search Skill and the bonus from the journals. ) 2) Take the Journal and Leave. (Will result in a End of Game) Kelina has the following Options: 1) Inspect the Fireplace again. (Roll a d20. Your elf will receive a bonus based on their Intelligence Mod) 2) Share her observations with Laurenthiel concerning the fireplace. (This will grant Larenthiel a +2 bonus to her search check of the Fireplace) Romsca's choice to inspect the trophy heads begins with a panther's head nearest to where he stands. Each of the trophy heads proves to be from a selection of predators. Wolves, big cats, bears, even a giant eagle head is mounted with a plate declaring it a griffin. It is this particular trophy head that stands out, not just due to it's mythical nature. Unlike the other heads mounted on the walls, this one is fake. A clever fake that would fool most inspections, but Romsca's keen eye picks out the small details that betray the head's authenticity. Upon closer inspection, you can tell the beak is a cleverly latched compartment. It appears to be trapped! Romsca has the following options: 1) Disable the Trap (Roll a d20. A bonus will be added from your Dex Mod) 2) Leave the Trap alone and Sample the Minibar instead (Roll a d20) 3) Leave the trap alone and Check out the fireplace. (Roll a d20. You will receive a +4 bonus due to your Intel Mod and the Search skill) (Please include in your post the Number you are picking, just to make certain there are no accidental mix ups on my part. Sol'drin was getting frustrated with this lock. He was good at this sort of thing, so why wasn't it opening up? When the other elf finally poked at some bit by the door and it popped open, he somehow managed to stifle an annoyed sound. He calmed himself merely by knowing even had their roles been reversed, it would have been necessary for both of them to work at it, or it would have taken either of them much longer to get it open. With a slight sigh, he moves to enter the room and look around.
He investigated the nondescript room, eventually confirming that the only way out was apparently up. He shrugs and takes out his rope and hook, not trusting those stairs in the slightest. Stone may be sturdy, but it could still crumble. Admittedly, the stone behind the mounts could crumble too, but the whole situation still looked safer. He tested the equipment, and proceeded to start to attempt to climb.
