"Mare is here."

"Who?"

"I can smell her."

Rabbit hadn't caught the other fetch's name during Pax's little get together, or if he had, he hadn't retained it. He'd been a little preoccupied, stewing in his own fear for himself and concern for the squeeps. To him, mare was...

"You can smell a horse? Is it a horse from here, because I don't want to run into—"

"It's not a horse," she hissed. "She is another fetch."

Rabbit stared at the back of Oroh's head. Her wig was green today. "You can't smell a fetch. That can't be a thing."

She hesitated for at least a minute, shifting her weight and the picnic basket on her shoulder several times before muttering, "Yes. Fine. She's right over there, around this corner. I cannot smell her. I don't even know her."

"You know who she serves though, right?"

She nodded.

"Can you tell me?"

"Lord Alexander. Thorne."

"Hm." It was going to take more than the knowledge that he hadn't ever truly interacted with the real Thorne for him to feel at ease around the other man, but he supposed now was as good a time as any to get started on that. Rabbit hurried past Oroh at a brisk walk, at least for him.

"Thorne?"

"Mare," Thorne said, "Why on earth are you doing that?"

Mare whuffled, distinctively displeased by his question, as though it were perfectly obvious when she was straightening his tie for him and making sure he looked absolutely impeccable at that very moment. He'd come from Mass, but god knew he hadn't wanted to stay that way even though Mare insisted he looked good in the sharp suits he sometimes wore.

"Because you are meant to be respectable and acceptable to the other nobles of the court, and how else are you to do that than to look like a king?" She answered briskly, and nearly choked him as she tugged a clumsy fold into place.

"Who do I even have to appeal to today?" Thorne retorted, feeling impatient. The Court, or at least his part of it, was dreadfully quiet. To the point that when he was there he sometimes thought about sending requests to the Burning Man for tea because he was just that bored - nevermind that the other noble was on fire, or quite possibly twice his age. He just wanted some company when he was around.

"There is another fetch nearby," Mare said amiably, "And I imagine they are not traveling without their Lord or Lady nearby."

Thorne was about to ask who it was when someone called his name. Cutting in front of Mare so that she couldn't be the first one to involve herself in the matter, Thorne strode across the corridor and blinked when he came into view of Rabbit.

"Oh," he said, gracelessly, and Mare huffed behind him, "Rabbit, right? Good evening." His eyes flicked to the picnic basket and Oroh and then back to the other Lord. "What's the occasion?

His first response to Thorne's outfit was mild concern. Had he missed an invitation to some sort of get-together? A vital lordly obligation, perhaps? Where the other noble was quite dapper, Rabbit was shoeless again, in jeans and a variegated green sweater. Nice, for him at least, but no suit. He pushed his paranoia aside. Oroh was on top of things. She wouldn't let him miss anything important.

"No occasion," he said, approaching with the same suspicious reluctance he had felt before he had decided to rush. "I've been... well... I come here a lot when I'm not expecting to, so I've been carrying around food from Ashdown and leaving it here when I show up." He indicated the picnic basket. "We've finally got enough to sit down and eat. Oroh saw you while we were wandering around looking for somewhere to do that."

The fetch caught up at a more stately walk. She inclined her head once she'd reached Rabbit's side, the braided bits of her green wig brushing her hollow cheeks. "Lord Alexander. Mare, dear. It is lovely to see you both."

Rabbit shifted his weight. This was a bit too much like distant cousins being forced together at a family reunion for him. "So. How're things going? How've you been?"

Thorne hummed ruefully, a crooked smile on his face that said he'd been experiencing the same thing until he'd made it into something he simply did on purpose. After all, Mare seemed quite happy to have him, and it was nice to claim his part of the Court with whatever things he could do and use and bring to it to make it wholly his.

"It's a smart idea," Thorne acquiesced, tilting his head. "The only saving grace of somehow stumbling into Court is that Mare still retains some understanding of human dietary needs." He paused and added, "Oroh is your fetch, I take it? This is Mare. If you ever see her hovering around you without me, you'd best be prepared for a long conversation about your marital prospects - or the weather. I'm always guessing wrong."

"It is a pleasure to meet you properly, Lord Bennet, I have only heard of you from removed sources," Mare said with an icy glance at Thorne, who grinned crookedly at her, "And I shall not impose upon you a discussion of marital prospects before having known you for some time. The weather on the other hand is as appropriate a topic as any."

Her eyes fell on Oroh and she smiled, curtsying delicately to Oroh. "Oroh!" she chirped, warmly, "It is all well and good to see you too. How are you?"

Thorne rumbled and glanced over at Rabbit, folding his arms behind his back and peering at the other man. It was strange to suddenly be thrown together as Lords in a weird preternatural place that neither of them were accustomed to, least of all with one another.

"Oh, you know," Thorne said mildly, "Learned I grow wings now and went on a life-changing road trip during which everything seemed to go even further into hell. But other than that I'm rather good. How are you?" He smiled. "Any strange things happen to you in the aftermath?"
