It had been going on a year since they had fully committed to one another. Taith could scarcely believe it, but the weather did not lie. It was already deep in autumn and winter's chill had begun to creep into the air again. More than a year since they had set forth on their journey together and seen a great many things. He did not regret the years that he had outright run from permanent companionship, because if he had not he would not have met the lovely mare beside him. His kind and gentle Yuuka who had firmly worked her way into his heart before he had even truly realized it.
He scarcely realized how lost in his own thoughts he had been for much of their walk today, but he had been smiling all the while so his mate would know naught was amiss. Her voice brought him from his thoughts and he shook his head lightly to clear it. "Yes, my heart?" His tone was full of apology, because while he had heard her he had completely missed what she said.
Now that he was more in the present was easier to notice the growing chill in the air. Perhaps it was about time that they settled into a winter shelter. There was a nice grove nearby with a sturdy cave, hopefully still uninhabited as it had been the last time they had passed by. If it was then that would do nicely. They could claim their place and still wander until the snows started then bunker down for the winter. He inclinded his head toward the path that led to it, it had grown over some with fresh grass and late blooming blossoms since their last visit, leading him to believe that very few came this way. It was likely they would be fortunate and find the cave empty.
Except when they arrived the cave was not completely empty. There was a basket tucked away just inside the entrance to be out of the path of the nipping winds. The wicker was painted in familiar browns and deep pinks and teals. It took longer than it probably should have for him to realize that it was a mingling of their own coat colors. What was this? Where had it come from? Their last trip to visit to the Wishing Star had been many moons ago, so long that he did not quite connect the dots just yet.
"Yuuka..." It certainly seemed like it was meant to be their's. The basket was quite small, but upon closer inspection it bore some of Yuuka's markings. "I think this is ours..."
Well, wherever it had come from he was certainly glad to see it!Kyrieko I'm going to treat Kazue as a gift from the Wishing Star - so its just a little surprise bobcat child in the basket.

"I was merely thinking allowed and mentioned that perhaps I should consider paying my brother a visit while we are close to the herd's preferred location." She repeated with a soft sigh. This type of thing was not uncommon in their conversations, especially while traveling and one lets their mind wonder. "However, I can't guarantee they are here right now." Yuuka continued, leaning over to brush her muzzle along her mate's neck. "What sort of thoughts have you so distracted this time?" She teased lightly.
Had it truly been almost a full years time? The uni-kirin mare glanced around at the familiar land around them. Yes, the trees weren't as fully bloomed, their leaves having decorated the ground. The air felt cooler, but not quite unpleasantly so. But this had certainly been where her life changed once again.
Never had she thought to find someone like Taith. After the loss of her family, she hadn't allowed herself to form connections. Her brother was the only one that ever saw any real emotion. But life had begun to get lonely, even with a caring herd having taken them in and her brother to keep her company. It had lead her to wandering alone, searching for something she could not comprehend. And then she'd found it. A humorous and sweet stallion that kept her on her hooves. She loved her mate with all of her heart.
Ears swiveling forward as the cave came into sight, she was rather glad to have a place to rest. Muscles ached and there was something that just felt like "home" being here. But when they reached the mouth of the cave, Yuuka found herself unable to take another step forward. There, sitting just inside the cave where the wind couldn't reach it, was a basket. She knew what the basket was. Had seen them in her herd. But why was it here?!
"Taith... but how?" She murmured. It certainly made her think of Taith's coat. And her own. But it had been many moons since they'd made a trip up to the Wishing Star! Finding her hooves moving again, Yuuki moved slowly towards the basket and gently nudged it with her nose, being absolutely sure no wind would reach it.
"Well, whatever the reason, it is here. And we are here. Let's move further into the cave and make sure it stays warm." She smiled brightly at her mate.
