Lapis had settled for the day in the common room, tail flicking into her lap as she read a book lazily. Classes were over, and she had nothing to do today. It wasn't time to go home, and even if she did go home early no one would be there. She much rather wait for Willow to get out of class and spend some quality time with him then wait alone at her house.
Her little feet wiggled absently, free from her shoes. She had settled on a couch, back against the bottom pillows and book raised about her head. She didn't notice a certain space-colored boy approaching her. Not until a shadow cast over her book.
"....Yes?"

Melete was losing it.
For the past few days he had noticed Lapis, and he needed to style that hair. Her hair was beautiful, glossy and vibrant, naturally bearing beautiful colors he just was dying to style. Honestly, she was pretty, and Melete acknowledged this. It made him want to put those long locks in a new style. Something not just down. Untouched. Unstyled. Just.... there. Finally, he couldn't wait any longer, having spotted the girl while passing the common room.
He couldn't stand it anymore!
"Are you busy?" He asked, watching as Lapis tilted her head to look at him properly. "If not, can I style your hair? I won't cut it. I just.... want to try something." Right. Way to be creepy. His only excuse was that he was a kid. It wasn't creepy if it was a kid, right?

Silence followed. While it might be uncomfortable for Melete, Lapis was content just staring at him. He shifted foot to foot, but her eyes remained stuck on his, tendrils flickering softly.
He wanted to style her hair.
He had approached her, randomly. This child who she didn't know (which wasn't impressive, as she never cared to know anyone) had just waltzed up to her to ask if he could style her hair. This was happening. This was a thing. Lapis remained on her back, book still in air as she stared at him. Finally, she blinked once, mouth opening to deliver an answer.
"No." With this, she returned to her book.

Did she.... did she just...? Did she just say no? And ignored him after? No one ever said no to him! Who- who did she think she was?! Everyone their age knew he was a prodigy with hair! She- what?! His tendrils flared, eyes widening before he returned to his polite attempts. Maybe she just didn't know who he was?
"Maybe you don't know, but I'm actually very good with hair." Not creepy at all.
"I actually helped this girl the other day fix her hair after someone put gum in it. She looks way cuter now." There. That'd convince her. "So, what do you say?"

She hadn't been listening, mostly because she assumed when she said no he'd leave. His words had to be directed to someone else, right? As he kept talking Lapis kept reading, flipping a page quietly. Silence. Expectant silence. Wait. Was there even anyone else in the room? A brief glance confirmed it was just them, and the boy didn't look like someone who talked to himself. Her head raised again, locking on him. Yes. He was looking at her. He had spoken to her. What had he said? Clearly it hadn't been important, right? She blinked at him, book still in the air.
Nope, she couldn't figure out what he may have wanted.
"What?"
Oh, those markings flashing clearly indicated she had irritated him.

'What?'
She hadn't been listening. She had ignored him! His markings flashed, mouth tightening as he just stared at her. No way! Who was this girl?! Why did she have such magnificent hair?! Melete had to physically stop himself from stomping his foot, instead clearing his throat as he stared at her. Maybe she was hard of hearing?
"I said I'm really good at it. Will you change your mind?" His tone was louder, almost hinting at the anger his markings clearly screamed. He was physically struggling to behave, hands digging into his sweater.

Oh. He was still on that? She stared at him, again, contemplating if he knew how creepy he sounded. How did she even know he washed his hands? Her hair was fine. She didn't feel like undoing whatever he did to it, and honestly? She just wanted to read her book.
"Oh." Lapis turned back to her book, delaying in her final response not out of spite, but out of almost forgetting he required second denial. "No."
Now, surely the loud huff she heard was directed at someone else. It wouldn't make sense if it was to her.

The dismissal! The blunt denial! The lack of manners! Melete huffed loudly, tendrils illuminating brightly. He had never experienced this before! How dare she! Melete almost wanted to rip that book out of her hand, but he acknowledged that was poor behavior. It wasn't even the 'no' that really bothered him, it was the lack of manners and actual verbal responses!
Someone ought to tell her she was so rude!
"You're rude, you know that?" The polite mask was gone, a childish pout stuck on his face. "At least give me enough respect to not ignore me!"

He was talking again, but obviously this time it surely wasn't her again. She had said it twice, and she was busy with her book. Pushing the matter was just downright unsettling, and she was sure if her big brother saw this he'd- wait. What time was it? As the boy spoke she looked at her watch, kicking herself up and off the couch.
It was time to meet him.
Her eyes had spotted the boys mouth, though. It was moving, and his eyes were on her. He looked rather angry, too. Blinking, Lapis tucked the book under her arm, head tilting slightly to the side.
"What?"

He lost it.
Melete let out an angry groan, this time finally stomping his foot. She was impossible! Who was this girl?! She would regret the day she crossed him!
"You-!" Now, Melete wasn't one for outbursts, but he had just about had it! "You'll be banned from my salons!" That'd show her! Turning on his heels, Melete stormed out of the room, leaving a puzzled Lapis.
She stared after him, shrugging absently before going to find her older brother.
