It was near midnight in some empty parking lot. Shun had a couple cartons of tennis balls with him. Having one of those auto-thrower things would have been good, but he didn't really have access to one of those at the moment. He was tired, but once more, he could not sleep.

None of the lights were on in this lot, making the area rather dark, but he could still see just fine. He wore a light hoodie under his leather jacket, keeping the hood up to provide a weak bit of protection from the constant light rain that now plagued the town. The other side was pulling this s**t, he was certain. And he was still probably too weak to make any difference anywhere.

This training wouldn't help him find purpose, and it would have been better if he was on the Other Side, but it was still something.

Popping the cartons open, he dropped their contents onto the ground, then turned to face the brick wall. He picked up one ball, then hurled it at the wall. As it came bouncing back, he dodged it, then tried to 'catch' the ball mentally to bring it back to his hand.

Since it had started up with this near-constant drizzle bullshit, Preacher had been more and more reluctant to return to the tent she still called home. She was looking into places, of course, but it was a budget-full calculation to discover exactly what kind of place she'd be able to afford. To someone who'd never rented before and had no credit, it was even harder.

Her reluctance to return was based solely on how wet and chilly the nights got. The ground squished beneath her tent, no matter where she moved it to. There were designated tenting spots, of course, but that was for tourists. Tourists who paid. Preacher guessed she was lucky Mercer and the people in HR had never really looked too hard at her address.

But this sight, in the drizzle, was unexpected. Someone was playing wall ball and either he mind was playing tricks on her or this guy was moving the ball without touchingit. Maybe. Preacher squinted and twirled her Totoro umbrella.

"What'cha doin', Harry Potter?" She moved closer, ready to ******** run if it was some weird-add junkie looking to wale on someone. But if this was spooky s**t, she was honor-bound to butt in.

Shun hadn't quite realized someone else was in the area, as he as focusing on the task at hand. At the sound of a voice calling out to him, he paused and turned towards the source. The tennis ball was hovering near his head at this point.

While the colors had faded from his vision due to the low lighting, he could still see Preacher fairly clearly. His own features were probably heavily obscured, though.

"What does it look like I am doing?" he asked. He went ahead and dropped the ball, letting it fall to the wet pavement with a small splash.

"Well," she said, drawing out the word. "It looks like you're ******** magickin' a ball around your head, so..." She shrugged and spun her umbrella again. If this was someone else affiliated with rainy-a** Ashdown, then, she wanted details.

"So... are ya?"

It seemed like she hadn't recognized him yet, which was good, he supposed. Shun tilted his head, regarding Preacher a little warily.

"What would you do if I said 'yes'?" he asked.

He really didn't know how she might react to that sort of thing. Some people might freak the ******** out. Others might get excited. He was unaware the Preacher had been bugging Jer about all the magical things like June had been to him, so he didn't know where she was on this scale of possible reactions.

Something about him seemed familiar - his voice, maybe. But Preacher was s**t with both faces and voices, so she shoved the feeling away. She'd been in Ashdown for about five months and everything was still shiny-penny-new, including the majority of the people. Still.

She shook her head. "First, I'd ask how the ********. And secondly, I'd ask if you weren't in the wrong rainy Ashdown for this sorta thing." She arched her eyebrows at him, not caring if her expression could be seen.

Shun scoffed lightly, "Not all things magic are restricted to the Other side. Small things may leak through. Like the rain, in this case. Or little powers here and there."

He bent down and picked up a ball, the normal way, and looked it over.

"How do you know about the other side?"

"Sometimes big s**t leaks through, too," she pointed out. Hadn't the events at Blackfriar's been some sort of a leak? "As for how I know - I ask questions, I get answers." Preacher shrugged. She'd always been ********' nosy to a fault and was reminded of it often. Sometimes asking too many questions got her in trouble, too, but she never minded. It was part and parcel and she didn't run from fights.

"What else can ya do? And... don't I know you?" Preacher stepped closer, trying to get close enough to see his face.

"That depends on who you ask. You work at the police station. You know what the official statement is regarding that incident," he remarked.

It was also an answer to whether or not she knew him. Shun didn't budge when she stepped closer. She just seemed curious, so there was likely no imminent danger. Not here anyway.

"That is the most notable thing you will see me do on this side."

He couldn't exactly show her his ability to see in the dark. He had noticed that his reflexes seemed to be better than normal, but that was also a bit more low key. Compared to moving s**t around with his mind, at least.

Well, that sealed it. Damn dude was someone she knew and pointedly ignoring her questions. "Of course I know the official statement. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna find out what really happened. I'm not stupid." She huffed.

"Most notable thing? 'Cuz you can't do more or you won't?" She fished her phone out of her pocket and, in one smooth movement, flicked on the flashlight and pointed it at his face.

Shun flinched from the sudden light in his face. Given how his eyes were well adjusted for the darkness, that actually did a pretty good job of blinding him. He closed his eyes, looking away briefly. His arms also went up in a sort of pseudo defensive stance instinctively, since he currently couldn't see from the sudden flash of light.

"I can see in the dark. Not exactly something that can be shown off. Now put that damn light away," he grumbled, blinking a few times to let his eyes readjust accordingly.

"********' Kuroda. Straight-laced Kuroda. What the s**t." She did lower the flashlight. Although, she thought, flashing a light in Shun's face could be effective if she needed it.

"I didn't know you were in the spooky s**t. So, can you teach me how to do the ball trick, then?"

Once the light was out of his face, he shook his head, then just sort of glared at Preacher. He didn't like having the flashlight shined in his face like that. Then again, he wasn't sure who enjoyed that sort of thing in the first place. It was a little unpleasant regardless.

"I cannot, no. Not here, anyway. Magic can be taught on the other side. The things people pick up on here are... almost innate I would say. I could tell you what I do for it, but you would not be able to learn."

At least that was how he understood it. He sure as hell couldn't do some of the things others were capable of doing in regular Ashdown.

"Lame," she said emphatically. "I'm not heading over to spooky s**t side to learn cool parlor tricks. It doesn't have its claws in me." Aka Preacher could not, in fact, go over to the rainy bit. An that was mostly fine by her.

"Hey, did something weird happen recently?"

Shun folded his arms over his chest, letting out a huff. So Preacher couldn't cross over after all. That certainly explained the questions.

"A lot of weird s**t has happened recently. The other night I arrested a man who was wearing nothing but a bedsheet, riding a bed down a street. He threw pumpkins at me."

It was one of the weirdest things he's done as far as recent events go. Preacher may have even heard about it. And it didn't even have anything to do with Other Ashdown.
