Micari was excited her dad was going along on the school camping trip as a carperone. Micari was excited to go camping for the first time, her new daddy was nearby but keeping his distance, so she could make new friends. Without Cimara smothered Micari or preventing her was doing what she wanted to do. Micari was looking out the window at the trees waiting for them to get on their short trip to the woods that they would be camping in. They weren't leaving the bellow, Micari sometimes she missed the Above and the bright sunshine. Other times, Micari was amazed by the twilight world of the Bellow and how the leaves still changed color even though the two worlds were so different. Micari brushed her purple hair out of her eyes looking to see what other freshlings would be going on this trip.

"Why don't you go on the school camping trip? You'll love the woods of Below and it'll give you a chance to make some friends! You can't spend your life hiding behind books, sweetie."Iolanthe still wasn't sure why she agreed to come along. There were so many people here that she didn't know and even though they still had the comfort of their caretakers, they were going to be camping outside! In the woods! In the DARK! There would be no cute night lights to give a comforting glow and illuminate the shadows. Io had brought this up to the caretaker and they simply told her that she would be having too much fun to need one. The little fey didn't believe them. Now here she was, on the bus heading to Nine-knows-where with a bunch of freshlings she didn't know to sleep outside with no night light. Io already missed her books and she pulled her knees up to her chest, back against the wall on the seat, hugging her beloved plushie Loxie close. A light whimper escaped her as she looked around at the familiar-yet-strange faces of her fellow freshlings, seeing how excited they were and wondering why.

Micari heard a whimper, she peeked over her seat to the seat with the fey sitting holding her plushie. Micari had left her plushie at home, not really thinking about being afraid and needing to cuddle her plushie. After all with all the caretakers and her daddy nearby what was there to be afraid of. Then again Micari was a goblin and not afraid of the dark. She knew that there were fey who didn't like the dark and couldn't see in the dark at all. "Are you ok??" Micari asked nicely looking down at the other freshling the bus still not having moved yet. Since they were waiting for other freshlings that were on the list.

Io watched as the caretakers and chaperones bustled about to get their charges seated and in order, all smiles while so many of the other children were talking with each other animatedly. What exactly they were talking about the little fey couldn't understand, everything sounding like one long droning cacophony with no true words being spoken. She could feel her breathing getting shorter and slightly more erratic, her eyes darting from face to face as she felt more and more overwhelmed. Just as her nervousness was starting to border a panic attack she heard a voice rather clearly from beside her asking if she was ok. Io jumped a bit and looked wide-eyed up at the source of the voice; a little goblin girl. It took a moment for the fey to find her voice. "I....I-I don't know. I've never been camping.....and I didn't find a book about it to read before coming....a-and it's gonna be dark with no night lights and I've never slept without one...and.....and..." Io's voice grew more strained the more she talked, her voice cracking a bit as she trailed off what she was saying. Realizing she probably sounded hysterical she whimpered and pulled on the petals of her flower hat to cover her eyes in embarassment. "....I just.....I probably sound stupid.....but I'm scared...." It was taking everything the fey had to not start crying.

Micari smiled and said "I can sit with you and tell you about some of the things I know about camping.." Micari's tone was a little sad on the last note, her memories of camping in the Above were rather different than what her new dad had told her about camping in the Bellow. Micari smiled softly and said "I'm sure the parents and caretakers will build a fire so we can roast marshmallows and make dinner." Micari shook her head and said "Everyone is afraid of something, I'm afraid of Aetherjellies." Micari said softly with a shiver. "They give me the creeps." Micari tried to smile reassuringly. "Then when it's bed time I bet the caretakers and parents have lanterns I know my dad bought one if it makes you feel better you can sleep in my tent with me. My daddy is sleeping in his own tent." She said proudly.

Io peeked up from under her hat, a tear in her eye that hasn't yet fallen as she listened to the goblin girl offer to sit with her and tell her about what she knew. "...You....you would?.....O-ok." She saw the girl's smile and it made her feel a little better, reaching up to brush away the uncried tear as a small smile of her own crossed her features. It didn't escape Io's attention that there was a slightly sad tone to the girl's voice when she talked about camping, the fey wondering if this was a bad idea briefly. At hearing that the other girl was scared of aetherjellies, Io tilted her head a bit curiously. "Well....I guess I can see why. They are kinda weird and squiggly.." She wiggled her fingers to imitate the tentacle of the creature in question, a small giggle escaping her as she started calming down. Io shifted so that if Micari decided to sit with her, she'd have plenty of room. "A lantern? That could work....and if you reallyvdon't mind, then I'll sleep in your tent with you. Um......thank you.." A light blush tinged the fey's face which brought out her little white speckles just a bit more. "Um...I'm Iolanthe. But....you can call me Io for short."

Micari slid into the seat next to the fey girl and said "I'm Micari." She said in a warm friendly tone. Micari wouldn't make fun of the girl for being upset, perhaps it was different but Micari had cried a few times when she had first lost her family and moved to the Bellow. Things were so strange and different in the Bellow compared to the Above. Some good and some bad. Micari nodded "They are so weird." She shivered. Micari smiled and nodded "Yup crystal powered lantern, so it will stay on as long as we need it to." Then she said "Nice to meet you." Then Micari thought a moment. "The camping trip I was last on we went to the woods, set up our tents together. Then the adults built a fire and we made dinner. Then there were stories told. It was a lot of fun. I don't imagine this one will be much different." Micari said hoping to put Io at ease so she wouldn't be afraid anymore.

Io smiled a little more when Micari introduced herself, sitting Loxie in her lap as she nodded in agreement that yes, aetherjellies were very weird. Hearing that they had a nice crystal powered lantern did give the fey a sense of relief, smiling back at her. "Nice to meet you, too." Io watched the goblin as she thought for a moment before she described the things that she did on her camping trip, the fey's eyes wide and attentive as she listened closely. "Wow....that sounds kinda fun. I mean, I've never put up a tent before, but I think I can figure it out if there are instructions. And....will we make dinner on the fire? A-and you mentioned roasting marshmallows; you think that will happen too?" Io's tone of voice changed from apprehension to something closer to excitement. She looked up in confusion when the caretaker that had gotten her to come along came over to where the two girls were seated and smiled. "I almost forgot; I have something for you, Io. I think you'll like it and be able to use it on this trip." The caretaker handed a small book to the fey that was titled Beneath the Sun: A Beginner's Guide to Flora of Below. Io looked at it and her eyes widened, a gasp escaping her before she clutched it to her chest and squealed quietly. "Oh thank you thank you thank you!" The caretaker just smiled brightly and went back to doing their duties, the little fey smiling brightly as she turned to Micari. "Now I can see what kind of plants are out there! Maybe we can find some pretty flowers to press for a scrapbook?" The presence of that book seemed to momentarily erase all the fears that Io had shown before, the little nerd now excited to see what kind of plants she could spot and identify.

Micari smiled and looked over at the caretaker that brought the book to Io "Oh that's cool, you like flowers?" Micari asked smiled and then "I've heard of using flowers in decorating cakes." Micari said warmly "I'm into cooking." she said in a cheerful voice looking at the book. "I wouldn't mind helping you find flowers for your collection." Micari liked being supportive of other people's dreams. She loved listening to her brother play his music, watching her sister dance. Listening to her dad talk about his law classes. It was all part of what made Micari happy. For her cooking was the shining star in her life, a lot of people seemed to have something they loved in their life. Something that made them get up in the twilight of the day and strive for something more. The bus turned on and they started off on their journey to the camp site.

Io smiled up at Micari when she asked if she liked flowers, the fey nodding so enthusiastically that her flower hat wobbled threateningly...yet it stayed on. "I love flowers! Well, I actually love all sorts of plants." The fey looked curiously at the goblin when she mentioned she liked cooking, smiling brightly while still clutching that book. "Oh! There are lots of edible plants and flowers that are used in cooking and baking. You can use them for flavor, for dying, for decorating; so many things!" This was probably the happiest that Io had looked since she had gotten on the bus....or rather, since she had heard she was going on the camping trip. "I'm collecting a selection of plants with medicinal qualities. I want to press them, make a scrapbook of them and write notes on the pages of what they each do...kinda like a guide. I may use it for studying when I get older." She blushed just a little, her little white speckles showing more once again before she had a look that said an idea had struck her. "Hey! While we're out there, we can look for some edible flowers so you can try them! I want to try them, too, and maybe we can make notes on what flavors they have? You know....so you can use them for cooking in the future." The sound of the bus engine starting and the sensation of it lurching forward to begin their journey seemed to snap Io out of her momentary reverie, her worries and concerns about the trip seeming to creep back in a bit as she shifted just a little closer to Micari. "Ummm....you don't think there'll be any wild bears out there...do you?" The question came out in a quiet, nervous tone. She may have been more excited now about the trip but, hey, there were still things to be afraid of!

Micari smiled she was happy to see Io not so scared anymore it made her feel good about her day, besides Micari hadn't made any friends besides her twin, so maybe Io would be her first friend. Micari smiled "That sounds great, I want to be a chef when I grow up, so learning about all the plants I can use in my cooking would be wonderful." Micari bit her lip, she wasn't brave enough to face a bear by herself, dark she could handle bear not so much. "Umm I guess the parents and caretakers will keep any bears far away from the campsite, I've never seen one myself." Micari felt the bus come to a stop, she leaned up to look out the window where the wooded area was that they would be camping in.

Io blinked a bit to see her companion biting her lip, looking scared for a moment, and the fey felt....relieved. Hearing that others were afraid of things did ease her worries a bit but to actually see someone show fear truly did make her feel less embarrassed. "Right....right....the grown-ups. I haven't seen one, either, but I've heard they can be super big and scary and reeeeeeally tall when they stand up on their back legs!" Io stretched her arms up as high as she could to emphasize that fact, her eyes widening as well. "...But maybe if the grown-ups are around, there won't be any bears." Io felt the bus stop as well and she looked out the window with Micari, seeing the place they'd be camping and gulping lightly. The fey pulled Loxie up close along with the book she had been given, giving the plushie a squeeze before they were being ushered off the bus so they could be handed their bags of things they were told to pack. Slinging her backpack over her shoulder, Io looked around their campsite; it wasn't nearly as dark as she thought it would be. If anything, it was....actually pretty. Io waited for Micari before she moved to do anything else, opening the book to start looking for plants that might be out here. They would be setting up their tents first before they could do any exploring.
