Masika sat in a heap of layers as her dress seemed to puff out around her. She was busy practicing with her runes as her bright blue Janarim lay behind her lazily. The stones lay in front of her on the ground and when the hybrid girl lifted her hand they began to glow. Ever so slowly the rune stones lifted up off the ground and floated in the air before her. She already knew she could manipulate water, though not very well, so she wanted to try a different element. Earth perhaps? Though so far it was proving to be difficult. No matter how hard she concentrated she couldn't seem to get the ground beneath her to respond.
Edaj, the beast behind her, opened her jowls and let out a yawn as her tongue curled. When she was finished she turned her head to look at her owner with some curiosity but eventually lost interest and laid her head on the outer puff of Masika's dress.
She felt the movement in the fabric and turned looked at her familiar. "Oh it's not that boring." Her antennae gave a small twitch. Perhaps not boring but it was frustrating.

After chasing alola all day, Kieran had decided to go find other things to sketch. But it was a rather quiet day. His body was exhausted from climbing rock walls all day while his mind just needed a break from the frustration of failing at catching a simple creature. I should just let Aia have at them next time. Though he doubted that the keldari who was currently laying about his neck like the lazy straggler she was would be willing to chase things. Honestly it wouldn't surprise him if she had some sharp commentary or was laughing at him the whole time he was crawling up those cliff walls... Kieran's steps did slow, however, as he found that his walk had taken him closer to others than he had realized. Indeed, as he noticed a faint glow in the distance the Yaeli found himself staring towards a strange looking girl - someone who despite all that he had seen on the mainland truly took him by surprise. He himself would probably look a sight considering his own casual cloak had been left behind in his alola ventures while a dark indigo keldari lazily clung to shoulders beneath his frizzled, wind-blow hair. But still his own surprise was what kept him rooted in place as he just continued to stare without regard for anything towards the girl.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she gave her attention back to her practice. Masika thought about the earth and how to get it to move to her will. In fact she sat that way for several minutes before she let out a breath and opened her eyes. "I don't think earth is my element, Edaj." The hybrid told her familiar. She was greeted with a snort as some of the flowing fabric of her dress got caught in the Janarim's nose. Masika giggled at the antics and held her hands out for the stones to float down into. When they landed the glow would fade and they would look like regular old scratched up rocks.

He should just turn away now. Kieran kept trying to force his body to move, but honestly he couldn't leave. How was it that she was sitting so calmly there? She wasn't dressed in war paint norSi did she have a dagger aimed at his throat - something that he had gotten accustomed to with the extremist who had tried jumping him back on Yael.
She wasn't like them, but she was at the same time. The antenna....perhaps it was just another race he didn't know yet? Pinching the bridge of his nose, Kieran shook his head. Don't do it. He should just leave now while he could...but the Yaeli found himself instead moving forward so that he could study both the girl and her practice.Magic? Kieran's nose crinkled at the sight. Not that he had anything to do against mages, mind you - but it was strange to see something resembling an Alk practicing magic.
"Excuse me miss." Having approached her by a few feet now, Kieran finally called out, "But may I ask you if this is still Matori or have I crossed the borders into another land?"

She was alerted to the stranger when Edaj lifted her head to look toward him. Masika turned her head shortly after and blinked. He looked so strange! And then he asked if he was still in Matori. How odd, didn't he know where he was? "This is still Matori, yes." Her head gave a small nod and she blinked. "Are you lost?" If he was then she might be able to point him in the right direction. If she knew the place he was trying to go to anyways.

Ah, Kieran flushed slightly. She seemed rather calm compared to those that she reminded him of, "So this is Matori then." The Yaeli shook his head slowly, "My apologies - it's less a question of being lost, but more a question of what you are." He scratched the back of his neck sheepishly, "Not to offend, but I've honestly never seen any race which looks like you. So I was curious about whether or not I was still in the same land as before." Maybe even if he were superstitious he would have thought that with such a girl in robes and using magic that he had went to the land beyond.
A land of spirits...
Kieran shook his head. He was not superstitious like that, but seeing such a woman before him made it awfully tempting.

A purple hue crept into her cheeks. "O-oh.." So that was why he was asking. She guessed she should have expected as much. But she smiled at him as sweetly as was her normal. "Ah, no, this is still Matori and as far as my looks.. Uhm, I'm one of a kind." There was a nervous laugh added at the end and she looked down at her lap. Her feelers gave a small movement before sinking lower. "I'm an Alkidike and Matorian hybrid." Masika peeked up at the male to see his expression. She hoped that he wasn't afraid of her.

"Ah." Seeing her flush though the yaeli did feel a bit of embarrassment. Had he upset her with such a bold question? "My apologies - truly was baffled. As you can tell I'm a bit of an oddball out here myself. So I've been finding things left and right which surprise me." At least she hadn't ran away or called him a monster upon seeing him so that was a plus as well. Though it made him even more ashamed of his own reaction towards her heritage.
"Alkidikes..." That was the name of the race those monsters back on his home were from, but Kieran was slowly accepting that not all of them were like those that tried to gut him before. Still, there was a pause at the confirmation of her heritage before he slowly nodded. "I see...I didn't realize that they could have children with others outside of their own, so I honestly was taken by surprise." He glanced up quickly as more shame flushed his own cheeks, "No-not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with that! You're a very lovely individual indeed, but it's just the thought was so strange to me as I've never seen anything other than hatred from alkidikes before."

She did find him odd, he had dark skin almost like an Oban. Only.. it was a different type of dark. Masika tilted her head. "You look very beautiful. If I can return the question.. what are you?" It wasn't her intention to be rude but she was very curious. Then he mentioned that he didn't know Alks could have children with others. Masika pressed her lips together and hid the smile that wanted to show. Of course it did nothing to stop the small chuckle. "Actually, Alkidikes can't have children at all. They ask for them from Aisha, their mother tree. My Muma mated with a male from the water tribe and they both asked for children. They got me and my sister, Galene." Of course her twin was different looking. She was the only one of her appearance in the whole of Tendaji so far. "Only.. hatred? Then you should meet my Muma. She is the nicest one you'll ever meet. She's adopted earthling hybrids as her own children." Masika smiled up at the man and nodded at her own words.

Kieran rubbed his forehead at the compliment. Perhaps it was just him, but lately he was receiving some compliments from main landers lately and it was enough to make him chuckle, "I suppose when one hasn't been to Yael that we do stand out compared to others."
"Aisha?" Kieran frowned thoughtfully, "So they are truly a strange race." Was he for certain not in some spirit world? The more this fairy...no hybrid spoke the more he had to doubt the world about him. It seemed anything was possible on the main land, "So you are actually from a tree and not a mother?" He tilted his head as the realization slowly sank in. He truly was talking to a living flower then - both in appearance in and in birth.
"My apologies, but I don't think I'm prepared to interact with an Alkidike just yet. No offense to your mother, but my home island of Yael has a few living there and they are not the kindest to my people." He offered a small apologetic smile, "it would be hard to face someone who would remind me a lot of those who have killed other Yaeli." Including his own mother...

Yael? Masika gave a short gasp and covered her mouth with her free hand as the other held her stones. That would mean.. Well the glowing eyes should have gave him away. Though it was hard to see the glow beyond.. "Forgive me, what is on your face?" Why was he wearing transparent crystals over his eyes? The question about if she came from a tree was met with a nod. "Mhm, I was told my bloom was very beautiful." Masika gave him another smile. As he declined meeting her mother she giggled softly. "That's fine, my Muma understands." However the revelation of where he had come from and the violence he'd witnessed by the alks made her quickly frown. Masika reached back and patted Edaj, the blue janarim being lazy since the man seemed to be no threat. The beast moved and soon the hybrid girl was up on her feet and dusting off her dress. "I'm so sorry. The alkidikes in Yael are what we call the extremists. It was before I was born but I know they were so hateful that the rest of the tribe denounced them." Did that mean that all of those from Yael would fear Alks? Fear her mother? Fear her?

Ah, there was that reaction. Shaking his head slightly Kieran couldn't help teasing, "Don't worry. I'm not in the business of stealing souls today so you're fine." His eyebrow quirked at her question and he had to raise a hand to touch his face. Was there? Oooh. Smiling, the Yaeli touched the rims of his glasses. "An accessory to help me see. We tend to have some sight issues so our craftsmen figured out a way to bend glass for our eyes."
"I would believe that of your bloom." Complimented Kieran quietly before glancing away thoughtfully, "I take it that Alkidikes still must have a rough time due to their...sisters' behavior. Hateful is definitely a word for it considering how they slaughter for sport and haunt my race now." It was definitely a sharp reminder of a reason to be against the main landers - they had unleashed that plague on Yael instead of dealing with it. If they had only taken care of the extremists in cold blood rather than exile...he may have even still had his mother. The thought was enough for his brow to furrow. Such hopeless longings were in the past. The longer he lingered here the more he realized that.

"Oh.. heh, thank you." The purple tint returned to her cheeks and she too looked away. It was very odd to receive compliments from someone foreign. Heck she really only got them from a few people. "Mm, my Muma is afraid that others will still punish the Alks or those with Alk blood still." Which meant that her mother feared for her. It explained the Janarim that was with her. Not wanting to stay on the dreadful subject any longer she went back to the things on his face. "They really help you to see?" Masika took a step closer to him and reached one hand up to touch the glasses, though she stopped well before she got close enough. "Ah, sorry. May I?" She didn't want the man to think she was going to steal them and not give them back.

He wouldn't blame her mother for that fear. Even Kieran as a younger man had wanted to punish anything that resembled those alks. Coming to the mainland had somehow managed to soften such feelings of vengeance. I suppose getting to see the full view of the world has taught me a lot. Such realizations were making it even harder to think of returning home just yet. Didn't he have much more to learn after all?
"Ah, yes they do." Kieran chuckled as she glanced towards the glasses, "I..." He studied her for a moment. If this was a spirit then he shouldn't ignore its request, but at the same time if she truly was just a curious girl then he couldn't harm her for that. His own hand lowering from his glasses -as he had instinctively moved when seeing her own approach- the Yaeli slowly nodded. After all if his own mother had kept him from exploring then how could he have learned things? This girl slightly reminded him of that with her desire to see his glasses.
"I'm not that fond of taking them off, but if you truly want to see I may do so."

She nodded her head when he said he would take them off if she wanted to see them. "I would like to look through them, if I can?" Mainly because she knew that Alkidikes lost their sight the older they got. It would be a wonderful gift for her mother if she could go to Yael to get her some. Masika didn't reach for the odd things again, instead she waited for the man to remove them and hand them to her. She was far too gentle a person to simply snatch. "It's just that Alkidikes can lose their sight when they are older. So if I could get my Muma something to help her see better.." She smiled at the man again. "I won't take yours, I promise. I just wish to see how they work." She nodded her head and giggled.
