Shun had taken notice of a certain woman coming into the police department and stopping by Mercer's office. For awhile, he had been meaning to ask him a thing or two, but never quite got around to it. To him, Melany's location was still an unknown, which made him a little uncomfortable to think about. By this point, there was a chance that she had left the hospital even. He had no information on that matter. It was something he wanted to change, if possible. So he stopped by the Detective Lt's office briefly to request to speak with him after work. Once it was time to clock out, he got out of his work clothes as usual, then waited outside.

Shun would end up waiting a bit longer than usual. Jeremiah, who almost always clocked out the moment that it was time to do so, had been staying later and covering some projects for the Chief of late. He had taken on a much larger workload than he had ever in the past but seemed to be breezing through it without any problems whatsoever. In fact, if anything, he seemed to be thriving. There was a brightness to his blue-green eyes, a health to him that had been missing for the longest time that he now had. Eventually, however, he made his appearance. He had taken to wearing his sleeves rolled up, no longer as many layers as he once wore. It was almost as if the chill he had was no longer bothering him. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Kuroda," he called out as he approached. "Hopefully I haven't kept you from any plans you had for the evening."

Something apparently was holding up Jeremiah, which was a bit unusual. Though, he had heard that the man had been keeping himself rather busy in general. Unlike him, Shun was still looking a little worn. He still wasn't getting quite as much rest as he should be. And for a moment, he wasn't even certain if he was going to be showing up, but he waited patiently. "No, it is fine," he replied, pushing himself off the wall he leaned against as he stood around outside, "...Are you not cold?"Personally, he was feeling just fine in that regard, but the temperature had been steadily dropping as the days of summer had ended and they now passed into autumn. He was well aware of the fact that Mercer had a persistent chill, though. He would have figured the cooler weather would make that worse.

"Not at all," he replied, bright blue-green eyes glinting a bit in the evening light. "Actually found some measure of control with it but it does nothing for the pain." Since it was a fairly noticeable thing that he wasn't dressing warmer. There was no point in lying about it. "The things you can take control of when you work at it are quite amazing." Jeremiah rolled his shoulders and inclined his head slightly towards Shun, gesturing that they should start walking. "What is it you wanted to discuss?" It was obvious something was eating at Shun still. "Since it's obviously not tied to work or the case I assigned you earlier." Otherwise Shun would have talked about it already. Which meant it was likely tied to other ashdown.

Shun lifted his head, looking Jeremiah over as he stated that. He shouldn't be surprised that Mercer would be able to deal with something like that. "Good to hear. That would have been troublesome during the winter especially, I bet."With that out of the way, his gaze darkened a bit as he jumped straight to business. As the older detective suspected, this had nothing to do with their normal work. He could have just spoke with him at his office or something like that if it were the case. "I saw Temperance around earlier, which reminded me of something I have been meaning to ask you... If you knew anything about Melany's current location. She has been off my radar ever since the ball, and I would feel a little more at ease if we could at least keep track of her."Of course, it could be too late now.

"It was not exactly pleasant to deal with in the final throws of it earlier this year, no." Jeremiah shook his head at the memory, the ache of the chill and the pain that had been unmanageable until Algie had been able to soothe some of it. His steps slowed to a complete halt and he turned to look at Shun. "And why exactly is that?" Why did he care? Why did he want to know? There was a shift suddenly in his demeanor and the chill that Jeremiah seemed to have control over clearly was seeping back in.

Shun furrowed his brow. There was a shift here that he was able to pick up on. "It is as I said. I feel it would be better if we can keep track of her, or at least keep an eye on the woman. There is no telling what she might try to pull, and if she ever returns to the other side... well that is something worth knowing, do you not agree?"He slowly folded his arms over his chest.

"I'm well aware of her location and she's being watched," Jeremiah replied flatly.

"...Well, good. Then," Shun answered, regarding Jeremiah a little warily. He wasn't entirely certain what was with that tone of his.

"You tried to kill her, Kuroda. You'll forgive me but I'm not exactly inclined to have you be aware of her location." His head tilted to the side and studied him. The brief look was enough of one that implied he might have found Shun lacking.

Shun's fingers twitched slightly as he caught a look he knew all too well within Jeremiah's features. He had spent his childhood receiving that and similar looks. "It is not like I am going to try and kill her any time soon. There is not s**t I can do to her while she is on our side," he huffed. Did Mercer really think he was going to try and pull something if he had that information. "...But fair enough. As long as someone has an eye on her, I suppose."

"Considering your ill-timed and poor attempt on her life at the ball? I don't know what to expect. I would have thought better of you." His posture shifted, shoulders straightening. There was a noticeable chill around him now. "If you're going to attempt something like that, at least follow through and don't flee after your half-arsed attempt fails."

Shun's mouth opened partway, not quite having expected that. He stared at Jeremiah, looking him over. There was a chill in the air... both literal and metaphorical, at this point. "You are right, I should have stayed through with it. We were running out of time, and I thought I only had one shot. I was outnumbered against those trying to protect her..."Which brought up a question. Would Jeremiah had assisted him in some way? Or worked against?

"You were in a place where anything is possible. Magic bends to your will and those that were protecting her could have been easily indisposed or pushed back." His head shook, still clearly unimpressed with his actions. "If you had truly wanted to, you could have ended her. At this point, a thing that was a poor attempt at life did better than you. At least it followed through. If you are going to end a life, then do so. In this there's no room for poor attempts." Jeremiah's hand flicked through the air in what might have been annoyance. "You threw a dagger and slunk off with your tail between your legs, not even waiting to see if it hit it's mark or not."

For a moment or so, Shun fell silent at that. "Who told..." he started to say. Jeremiah hadn't been in the room at the time. Someone must have filled him in on that much. Shifting in place, he averted his gaze now. "...I know I failed. It may be the only reason why she still lives.."He couldn't help but feel a little confused. The last time he had spoken with the other detective for non work-purposes, he had said that he doubted he would be disappointed in him. But... perhaps that was before he had learned about what had really transpired, or something. Or maybe it had been a lie.
