What a peaceful day. The Yaeli leaned up against a tree near a beach in Matori. The sun was lazy today just flickering in through the twisted branches while the tides only lightly lapped at the coastline. After a long day of walking Kieran was rather content to just relax and enjoy today. Even his familiar – a long purple keldari – was spread out along the nearby rocks sunbathing. Just before Kieran had also found some fruit which was now laying on a blanket next to him – cut and prepped for eating.

Ever so slowly he would raise a piece to his lips and take a bite. While it wasn’t the same as some sweet fruit on Yael the taste was still flavorful in its own way. Letting out a happy sigh, Kieran just leaned back. Now this is the life. He teased quietly before reaching for the last piece of fruit and finding…nothing? His gaze narrowing, the Yaeli turned on his side to stare into a pair of beady eyes that slowly blinked at him. There were two? No four? Wait…six?!

Amazement crossed his features as he stared at the strange little lizard looking creatures – one of which actually stuck a long tongue out towards him. “Hey…what are you doing here?” Frowning, the boy tilted his head before sight of something pale and orange grabbed his attention, “He-hey!” They were stealing his fruit! No wonder it had gone away so quickly!

“I climbed high for that, you thieves!” Jumping to his feet, the Yaeli pointed towards the three little alola who seemingly taunted him, “Come back with that slice!” His feet tossing sand the man raced after them while a confused keldari just looked after them before seemingly shaking her head and coiling back up on herself. Almost as if to say, ‘you have fun with them.’

The little guys definitely were good at sticking to walls. Frowning, Kieran crossed his arms as he watched them try to scurry away up the side of the cliffs, “I don’t think so.” Reaching towards his hip the male grabbed his whip and snapped towards a rock. Honestly, he didn’t want to hurt them though the pesky things had taken his fruit. Now it was more of a show of manliness? He didn’t want to be bested by something so tiny!

So as his whip snapped against the rock a few inches away from the creature, Kieran gritted his teeth as he noticed them scatter. Time to climb then. His gaze gleamed with determination. Let them think he couldn’t do this too! He was a professional at climbing up rock walls after all! You little jerks don’t know who you are messing with… His fingers reached out and clutching at the rock wall the Yaeli began to scale up. Along the way he would snap his whip when he found a good foothold to keep one of the leaping alola in check while another would scurry around his arm to try and get towards the obvious crack at the top of the wall.

“Oh come on.” Kieran protested as one seemingly taunted him with a raised tail in his face, but its victory was short lived as the Yaeli managed to swing from one rock to another causing the alol to jump in surprise. Midair Kieran caught it with a hand. Instantly he slammed his body and his trapped prize back up against the wall for support. That’ll bruise in the morning. He winced at the rock that dug into his lower back, but at least it was worth.

Grinning Kieran almost stuck his tongue out at the alol, “Got ya.” With the small perch he had on the little ledge, the Yaeli tucked the creature into a pouch that hung at his side. Now to get those last two…a few bruises later and some cursing as he almost nearly fell the ten feet down to the ground Kieran stood with another. It made noises of protest, but he quickly placed it inside of the pouch as well along with its friend.

“Steal my food and I get to borrow you for study.” Quipped the boy to the squirming pouch at his side, “It’s not like you’ll die – I just want to sketch you.” Though it would be hard to do that and honestly with all the frustration it was rather tempting to use a ‘still’ model. Shaking his head though Kieran watched as a bright blur of yellow and orange – his piece of fruit!- ran past.

“Hey!” But in his fight to get the other two alola the one had managed to not only keep the piece of fruit, but to also taunt him one last time before slipping into a crack higher up on in the cliffs where he couldn’t reach it. Sighing, Kieran just shook his head slowly before beginning his descent back down the rocks. You got lucky this time little guy…this time…

So perhaps letting out the alola hadn’t be the best idea. While the first one scurried off the second one had stayed a little bit longer – appeased of course by more of the fruit that started this whole series of shenanigans. Kieran had stared at it a bit and focused on sketching all the swirling markings that blended in with the green body. In a way it seemingly shimmered in the sunlight as it twisted its body around the fruit. It was nice to actually be able to study it without chasing it up a cliff. Chuckling at the thought the Yaeli continued his sketch.

Eventually though the fruit ran out and while Kieran did try to appease the creature with an outstretched hand of friendship – did Alola even understand such things? – the critter just ended up blinking at him before turning tail and scurrying back away from the sands and towards the rocks. I suppose I should have given it more fruit. Teased Kieran before shaking his head slowly. They were strange creatures indeed. Reaching down he picked up his journal and bag, “Come, Aia. Let’s go back to camp before it gets too dark.”

All of that chasing and sketching had taken a few hours after all and he was ready for sleep…
