After taking the time to set up the cage and the area around it, Shun had went ahead and purchased a young black rat with a white spot upon its head. A female. No name just yet, as he wanted to see more of her personality before actually giving one.
A name is earned, after all.
He set her into her new home, and gave her a day or so to settle in, doing little else aside from providing fresh food and water, and checking up on how she was doing. A bit stressed from the move, but it seemed like she wasn't taking too long to acclimate to her new surroundings and all.
There was no need to rush this.
Once he thought she was ready, he went on ahead to carefully remove the creature from her enclosure.

Chel was over because she'd bought a weird tea brand on a whim and considering Shun was a big tea person, she thought he might like to try it. Lately her reasons for visiting were getting simpler and simpler; she hoped it didn't mean anything.
She knocked on his door, the only person who ever knocked on his door. "Shuuuun you hoooomeee??"

The knocking at voice at his door had Shun letting out a sigh. The rat perked up at the noise a little anxiously, though he tried to calm her a bit with a few gentle strokes along her head. She squirmed a bit, not quite used to being handled much yet. The detective placed her back into her cage, then made his way over to the door, opening up. "What is it now, Chel?"

"I brought you some-" She peeked over his shoulders and saw it. From then on she couldn't remember why she'd come over. The tea was simply shoved into his arms and she brushed past him towards the creature.
"Ohhhh look at it!! It's so cute!" She would be indignant about him not telling her later; for now there were tiny little paws to admire.

A box of something had been shoved into his hands as Chel pushed past into his apartment. He glared at her, saying, "Hey, what are you--"
It became clear soon enough. With a frustrated sigh, he glanced down at the box. It looked like some sort of tea.
The rat gave a soft squeak and quickly ducked away into a tube, hiding away from the newcomer.

Chel squished her face up to the cage. She'd never owned a small rodent and had no idea how you were supposed to react.
"Oh noooo. Come back out here little dude. M'not gonna hurt you or nothin'."

The little nose of the rat had poked out of the tube, but it quickly vanished deeper within.
"Chel," Shun stated firmly, "Leave her be. These are still new surroundings for her, and she is easily frightened for the time being."

Chel had been ready to poke a finger through the cage, but at Shun's request she looked back and then backed off.
"She? So it's a girl?"
She took a few steps back and then sat on the ground, knees up to her chest look affectionately at the plastic tubing. "What a cutie."

Shun nodded once in confirmation, then eyed the cage. Once Chel had backed off, the nose of the rodent could be seen poking back out after a few moments. She eventually looked out from her hiding place, though most of her body remained where it was, in case it wasn't actually 'safe' right now.
"Given time, she should become less shy. Right now she just needs to learn that this is a safe environment for her."

Chel's voice dropped very low, as though talking a normal tone would break the creature. "Well she better get used to me, since m'over here all the time."

A brow was raised as Chel dropped her voice quite a bit. While loud noises would definitely not be preferable, she didn't need to speak that softly around the creature.
"Perhaps she will, perhaps she will not. At the store, she seemed fairly extroverted. Perhaps that will come back out once she has properly settled."

"So what's her name?" Chel all but whispered, gesturing for Shun to come closer.

Shun rolled his eyes as she gestured him to come closer. He just took a single step forward.
"I have not yet decided on one."

"Whaaaat?" she whispered at him. No name, even now? "How about somethin' cute an' girly like Rosie or Tulips t'go with Daisy?"

Shun stared at Chel for a few moments, dead silent.
"She does not seem like either of those. A name is earned, and I have only interacted with her for a day at this point. She will receive a name before too long."
