Yawning and stretching languidly, Misha rose to her feet from another quick nap. It was hilarious how much she was swinging between sleep and restless energy, she thought. They said that house cats slept something like eighteen hours a day but she had never quite believed it. Now that she was one, though... Well, it made more sense.

On the other hand, she and her fellow Chosen had been incredibly busy and stressed for the past twelve or so hours. It only made sense that exhaustion take hold every so often. Hunger and concern and exhaustion. She had to admit that she no longer felt any fear herself. She had every bit of faith that, when this was over, she would be human again. Possibly a naked human but that was a bridge that would be jumped when she got there.

Without thinking, Misha settled herself into an upright position, prettily posed, short tail curling around her feet. She looked around the camp to see who was still lingering. She needed company. Of course, company was different now that she could not talk. That was very frustrating.

Fighting animals was exhausting. Wandering the town and hoping to find answers was exhausting. Even poking through the woods and hoping to come across anything that might be a clue was a pain, especially if you were doing it alone. Everything seemed to take longer if you were alone for it. Sylvia had, of course, met up with people over the course of the day, but perhaps that was why she was so unwilling to be alone. Alone felt… well, even more lonely out here. The fact that she could turn into an animal at any moment, for all she knew, and never be found or saved if no one saw her might also play into that.

Sylvia came back from a long walk looking for, well, anything, so that she could relax at camp for a bit, maybe see if she could find a buddy for her next excursion. Or just some companionship now to hold her over through another adventure alone. Either worked, really. As it was, the first person she saw as she arrived was – well, not a person at the moment.

“Hello, Misha.” The serval Misha had apparently just woken from a nap, rising and settling into a seated position and surveying over her territory. It was kinda cute. She wasn’t quite a house cat, and held herself with the confidence of a bigger cat – which wasn’t surprising, given the person she was. Even Sylvia could tell she was sure of herself, and they still hardly knew each other. “Have a good rest?”

"Mmmrrr." Misha made a face internally. That noise was about as close as she could get to communicating with words. It did not seem to matter nearly as much with those who already knew her. Brian and Beth read her moods in cat form just as well as they did when she was properly herself. But others who only knew her in passing or in the most flippant of moods? Not a chance.

Still company was good and Sylvia seemed very sweet. Misha felt a stab of regret that they had yet to spend any proper time getting to know each other. As two Aphrodite Chosen, they could have had some interesting conversations, she thought. Well, there would be time later when she had human vocal chords again. For now, she simply offered a sort of kitty-cat smile to Sylvia. Then she stood, stretched again, and padded over to where the other woman stood. She looked up expectantly.

Sylvia gave a slanted smile at Misha’s kitty vocals. She remembered Misha being an outgoing person, and could only imagine what it might be like for her to not be able to speak. There were, of course, other ways to communicate, and as a cat she probably had a lot more at her disposal than some of the others; cats were very good at body language, and had more vocalizations than most animals. Still, it couldn’t be easy.

She did offer what seemed to be a fairly pleased face to Sylvia, so she responded with a nod and a smile, “Good, I’m glad.” But when Misha came to rest at her feet, she wasn’t sure exactly what the kitty wanted or expected of her. Were she a normal cat, Sylvia would have crouched down and scratched her behind the ears. As it was, Sylvia wasn’t sure if Misha was comfortable with that, let alone if that was actually what she was asking for.

“Is there something I can help you with?” Asking couldn’t hurt, at least. Misha could probably find some way to express what she wanted, whether it be pointing to the specific thing she needed, or making some other suggestive gesture. Unfortunately, Sylvia couldn’t read minds, though she occasionally wished she could.

Something she could help with? Misha wanted to laugh at that but only produced a throaty little feline chuckle. There were limits to what her physiology could do now. Still it was nice to be recognized and she appreciated anyone asking - even if she could not answer fully. She had learned to do her best, though, with body language.

Lifting one narrow shoulder in a sort of shrug, Misha indicated that she was alright and there was nothing Sylvia could do. Aside from the company, Misha had few demands at the moment. She parked herself at Sylvia's side then, arranging herself neatly and elegantly. If nothing else, being a cat did wonderful things with her inborn poise, she thought.

She glanced up at Sylvia, caught her eye, and then turned her head to nod at the penned animals, the turned Chosen. She was curious if they were all Chosen or townspeople or if there was any way at all to tell. There were more and more of them. It was strange to see so many different animals together.

She didn’t know if it was possible, but Sylvia could swear that Misha chuckled; it was an odd little rumble in her throat. The slight shrug that followed seemed strange, if only because she wouldn’t expect it to mean anything otherwise, but coming from a human in cat form, Sylvia got the message – there wasn’t much she could do. Misha was still fairly capable as a kitty, though, so she wasn’t entirely surprised.

Still, Misha settled herself beside Sylvia, seemingly making them a team for the moment. Sylvia didn’t mind them keeping each other company, even if it would be a bit more difficult with Misha unable to talk. Still, even the turned Chosen needed companionship. When Misha indicated the penned animals, Sylvia hummed, “Mm, it’s odd, isn’t it? We keep finding more of them, and there’s no way to know who’s who.”

Figuring they would be there for a bit, Sylvia shifted and sat beside Misha, folding her legs in front of her and setting her hands in her lap. She nodded down at Misha, “It’s good you managed to keep your emblem, since it’s on your necklace, but it seems a lot of other Chosen dropped theirs, so…” Blue-green eyes looked back at the herd, “I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when we change them all back.” She imagined that plenty of them would be townspeople, but who knew how many of either group were still out wandering.

Sylvia narrowed her eyes a bit, watching them all. None of them so far were the same animals so far, though a few were in the same groups (there were at least a few cats of various kinds), but it still made her wonder. She glanced down at Misha, “So… have you made any friends? Can you actually communicate with any of them?” It was worth asking…

Misha blinked at Sylvia when the blonde woman asked the question. A moment of genuine surprise managed to be communicated despite the feline features. Then she looked back towards the pen and cocked her head to one side. Make friends with the other turned Chosen? Communicate with them? It had not even occurred to her; she had been so preoccupied about her own status as well as that of those she already considered friends. Now she considered the idea. There was such a variety of animals. Who could know who was who?

At least they were reasonably certain that they had all been formerly human. That was some relief, Misha supposed.

Turning back to Sylvia, she shook her head a bit to indicate she hadn't made new friends. Another head shake communicated the answer to the second question, she hoped. Then she reached out to rest a paw on Sylvia's knee. Peering up into the other woman's face, she seemed to be checking on the blonde's well-being and stability. She did not know Sylvia very well but she knew she was Aphrodite Chosen and seemed very sweet. It was enough to be concerned.

The frustration of not being able to speak was creeping up on her, though. Being a cat had its high points but not being able to ask if someone was alright, not being able to comfort them... It hurt and bothered more than she thought it could. Misha gave a little kitty sigh and settled against Sylvia's hip, her paw still on the other woman's knee. She patted a bit then. Her golden gaze fixed on Sylvia's face. She only hoped her concern and frustration were clear enough for this woman who barely knew her.

Sylvia giggled at Misha’s clear surprise. Apparently she’d thought of something that Misha hadn’t yet. That was fine, though – it was probably a silly question anyway. But maybe Misha could try anyway and see if it was possible at all, and report back when she was more capable of communicating what it was like, if it did work, which is what Sylvia would really be curious about if success were had. She nodded at Misha’s response, “Aah, well. Perhaps that would have been a bit too much, on top of everything else.” Being an animal was alienating enough. Though perhaps it just took practice…

The unexpected weight on Sylvia’s knee made her look back at Misha curiously, only to find an adorably concerned kitty face peering up at her already. Her features soften and she smiled down at the other Aphrodite chosen. “Oh, darling, I’m fine.” She reached out to run a hand over Misha’s head and scratch an ear as she added, “Tired. A bit hungry. But fine.” It was, perhaps, a bit of an understatement, but it certainly wasn’t a lie. She wasn’t sure if she was just suspending the stress of the situation until they returned home, or if she really was adjusting, but she at least felt like she was in a better place. She smiled down at Misha and became freshly aware of the possible invasion of personal space – just because Misha was a cat at the moment didn’t mean she appreciated pats the same way other cats did. Sylvia withdrew her hand, brows furrowed. “Oh, goodness, I’m sorry.” There was a worried expression on her face as she shook her head with a sorry smile. “I’m aware of who you are, but it’s still hard to check those sorts of habits…”

Misha seemed to convey her own state of being once Sylvia had stated her own. A little sigh and a rest against Sylvia’s hip, earning a smile from her companion. Blue-green eyes stayed on the golden kitty eyes watching her, and Sylvia tilted her head and tried to convey her sympathy. “Well, Misha, I don’t yet know you terribly well, but you seem like a very social person. I imagine it’s been a bit difficult to be without your voice – or even just familiar body language.” She’d never been a cat, but it had to feel different, and it clearly took a bit more to bridge the communication gap; even if cats were graceful and quite expressive, it was still a world of difference. Sylvia chewed on her lip and sighed, “I’m sorry.” That was the best she had to offer.

Misha shook her head at the apology. There was nothing to be sorry for. Things were what they were. She still had faith that a cure would be found. Her only lingering worry was the thought of more injuries or, heaven forbid, deaths.

Driving that thought from her mind, the cat who was formerly a girl instead snuggled forward more. She ducked her head and nudged it beneath Sylvia's hand. If the other woman wanted to scratch her ears, if they both found comfort in the instinctive habit when it came to cats? Then so be it. Misha didn't mind. She could not talk to offer support but this worked. At least for now.

Sylvia smiled down at Misha. She knew there was nothing she could do, but she still wished she could help. At least she was sure that they were going to come up with a cure soon. She at least offered the little information she knew. “We did find a book at the tea shop that might have notes for a cure. I’m sure we’ll get you back to normal again soon.” She sighed and glanced at the rest of the animals as well. Hopefully they would be able to make enough to cure everyone soon.

Misha nosing under Sylvia’s hand brought her gaze back to the cat. With her apparent blessing and encouragement, Sylvia lifted her hand a bit so that Misha could nudge the rest of her way, then began to gently rub and scratch at her head and ears. So long as she was enjoying it as well, what harm could it do? If it felt good to normal cats, it probably felt good for Misha, regardless of how human she still was beneath. It was enough of a comfort for Sylvia, and hopefully a comfort for Misha as well. At least it was connection for them both.
