You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.
At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.
Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.
Hit Points: 30 HP Damage: 4 HP each time you attack
If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.
Either outcome, once finished witth at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:
1-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 41-99: Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it. 100: Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

Brian had been struck again by the fact that the Chosen were a close-knit group regardless of the fact that they didn't all know each other. All you had to do was wander up to someone with an emblem and ask them to assist you in this or that, and more often than not they happily would. It worked better during missions, of course, considering how different every person was, but it worked nonetheless. This time it was a pale-haired woman from the Aphrodite dorms; Sylvia, she'd said.
It wasn't long before the two came upon a strange deer. it was a deer for sure, but why did it have fangs?! Brian didn't have the knowledge to understand that water deer were a thing, and so when it barred toward him he fired an arrow at it. The arrow streaked across its side, but it let out a strange honking bellow and continued its assault. (157)

Sylvia was restless. After spending so much time on her feet seeking out ‘witches’ in town and finally getting some information she had returned to camp for some rest. But after a while, sitting there just seemed like a waste of time. She helped watch the animals that others had brought back, of course, and it wasn’t as if time resting and talking with new people was actually time wasted. Still, she felt like she could be doing more.
So, when a young man approached and asked if she would like to accompany him in the woods, looking for more animals to subdue, she had no real reason to say no. It was sort of a relief to have something to do for a while, even if she was sure she would be sore by the end of this entire trip. Sometimes it was better to be occupied, even if it meant a bit of pain.
Sylvia followed behind Brian as he weaved between trees, wondering if she shouldn’t make conversation. She hadn’t met him before, so she didn’t know much about him, but he seemed strong and capable. He certainly had no qualms about going out into the woods to fend off monsters. He had an air of confidence about him that Sylvia sort of envied, so she imagined that he wasn’t entirely new to high-stress situations and fighting of some kind…
She was debating asking him about his life before being Chosen when he stopped and drew his bow. Sylvia leaned around him to see a deer – with fangs?! It was charging at him as he shot an arrow, which did very little to deter it. As it continued towards Brian, Sylvia went from simply peering around him to backing up slightly, and angling herself – she knew she wouldn’t be able to block it before it got to Brian, but she would be able to hit it on its path after. Well, in theory.
Luckily, it worked. After it slammed into Brian, it bounded back and started to run to the side. Sylvia charged forward with her shield and felt a solid hit, knocking the deer back into the brush. It wasn’t exactly glad to have gotten beaten back, and it turned to kick at her shield, slipping a hoof past the side and kicking at her leg. Sylvia yelped and jumped back. “Feisty lil’ thing.”

Brian watched the deer clang into the shield and winced. Ouch, that looked like it had hurt. Were these native? Was this even a transformed person? The ripped t-shirt neck around its throat said that it likely was. It was alone too, and it had run at them...
It was probably a person, yes. Hopefully they had strong skulls against that hit!
"Yeah, I wonder what it is?" Fanged deer. Vampire deer. He wouldn't put it past science to name them something silly. Luckily, it was smaller than Griffin's rhinoceros and thus probably more easily subdued. He crouched as the deer came back and caught it hard in the chest, letting out an involuntary "oof." The deer predictably kicked him pretty hard, tried to bite his face, and then seemed to give in. It went a little more dead-weight. Ah, hell, he wasn't very well-balanced. He was going to need a hand getting up. "Help?"
The deer rolled its eyes to Sylvia and breathed heavily. The poor thing looked terrified. (339)

Sylvia squinted at the deer, “Well… I’ve never seen one before. I sort of doubt it belongs here,” she paused, looking up as she realized, “which probably means it’s a Chosen.” She looked back at the deer and pursed her lips, “Though the shirt collar is probably enough to indicate that.”
She was ready to attack again if needed, but Brian went for full-on catching it, and it seemed to work. The deer thrashed for a moment, but then went sort of limp in Brian’s arms, pinning them both down. Sylvia chuckled a bit before walking over to help Brian.
She gave the deer a sympathetic look and placed a hand on its neck. When it didn’t fight back, she leaned over and cradled its side, then carefully helped to lift as it kicked slightly until it was finally up on its hooves. When it was finally up, she turned to Brian and held out a hand to help him up. “Well, that didn’t take very long. We make a pretty decent team, I guess.”

"It could be one of the townsfolk too, apparently," Brian said. It had only been during his conversation with Beth that it had really struck home. They may very well be saving some poor, innocent civilian with all of this trapping.
"Thanks." He was able to finally get a leg up under himself and push himself up. He avoided using Sylvia's hand out of possible mebarrassment. He was a big boy, he could handle standing up. Of course, being a proper gentleman, he did hold his arms out to take to deer back when he was standing again. "Yeah, uh. Some of them really don't like the whole 'picking them up' thing? We were fighting a crocodile or an alligator earlier. Whatever it was, it didn't want to be caught. We had to carry it back to camp with its mouth tied shut." He'd jumped on it too. Gods, he couldn't believe he had jumped on it. Thank you, Zeus, for your protection! (511)
“Oh my gosh, yeah.” Sylvia’s brows were knit across her forehead. She hadn’t really realized that, though she had actually thought about it before. That made her even more worried for all of the animals they had found. Still, she was glad they had managed to help this one.
She was a little bummed that Brian hadn’t taken her hand to help, but so be it. Some guys had a thing about that for some reason. When he offered to take the deer, however, she was happy to let him carry it to camp – his weapon was a bit easier to carry with a deer in his arms than hers was, to be honest.
She laughed at his tidbit, “Well, I can’t really say I blame them. It’s probably very weird to be an animal, and to be beaten down and captured and brought back to safety. Some of them probably don’t even know we’re the good guys.” As they started walking back towards camp, she gave Brian a bit of a side-eye, “So… who held the gator’s mouth shut?”

Brian looped his bow around his shoulder and took the deer back, carrying it like a small child. It seemed as if it was calming somewhat. What had it seen, he wondered? Had it met Circe, or only her crazed followers?
"Yeah, I can't imagine," Brian agreed. "Even Misha was losing her mind, and she knew all of us." He shifted the deer weight then and shook his head. Ugh. He felt a little sick deep down in his gut. "You're talkin' to him. Protections and all, you know... Although without Lex's scarf I've had had to stay that way. We just tied it up and carried it back. It's still there, you know."
