It hadn't been long since the mare had gone on her "date" with Happy Endings (if you could call it that), and it seemed like Lovely Corpse had already forgotten the experience. She had appreciated his words, even if they went over her head for the most part, but she had already moved onto being engulfed in her work once more.
It was a rather lovely day; clear skies, lively animals and -- at least, for Lovely Corpse -- it was calm enough to go scavenging. The trip she took wasn't a long one, merely going toward the forest that rested alongside her family's domicile to see what she could easily find off the ground.
By the time she came back, satchel half full, a familiar, purple stallion seemed to have a great interest in the door to Lovely Corpse's home.
Oddly silent (though not purposefully), the mare took a slow gait toward Happy Endings as she looked him over rather expectantly. What could he be doing here? Stopping about two yards behind him, she continued to stare until he would turn to notice her.

Happy Endings scowled at the door of his latest and most difficult target yet, bouquet of roses in hoof (a gift from a smitten mare of course). His hair was pushed back from his face and just slightly tousled and he'd even managed to put on some cologne this time. The flutter was pulling out all the stops. He would be victorious and claim yet another heart for his own. In fact, he was so determined he was sure this girl would want to be the president of his very own fan club once he was done with her.
"This stubborn mare," he grumbled. "I will make her beg to spend more time with me." Grinding his teeth together, he raised a hoof to knock on the front door, unaware that Lovely was in fact standing right behind him. Boy, was this about to become an embarrassing situation for the stallion who 'never lost his cool' (something he loved to remind his sister).

While Happy Endings' mutters weren't missed, the context completely soared over Lovely Corpse's head as she finally took the initiative to approach after he knocked -- a sign he was trying to get someone's attention, she figured.
"Mm. H'ppy End'," she stated -- an acknowledgement that he was there rather than a greeting or question. Lovely Corpse's dark eyes landed squarely on the stallion, even if his attention hadn't been gained yet.

The flutter's eye gave a twitch as Lovely's voice reached his ears. She was right behind him. Of course she was right behind him. Wasn't that where everyone was whenever someone was talking about them? Just looming silently waiting for the other person to say something incriminating.
The stallion gave a cough, stiffly turning to face the toothy mare. "Oh Lovely. I didn't see you there. You look as ravishing as ever." And if he was lucky she didn't totally hear what he had just said, the flutter thought, a faint blush tinting his cheeks. "I brought these for you," he purred, thrusting the bouquet towards her. "I thought we could go out again?"

cursedandwandering sorry it took me so long bab-- As expected, Lovely Corpse continued to stare, smiling. Unluckily for Happy Endings, she did hear, but to his luck... it didn't seem to register -- or, at least, she didn't make it apparent. Perhaps she was used to others talking about her when they thought she couldn't hear, or maybe she just didn't care. It didn't seem like much bothered the mare, at any case.
"Thank," in response to his compliment.
She continued to stare.
"Thank..." she repeated again, this time at the flowers. It took her a moment of continued staring before she trotted forward and took the bouquet -- Lovely Corpse didn't seem to know exactly what to do with them, so after a moment she rested them against her back, somehow managing to balance them easily. Once situated, she nodded. "Ok." At least she didn't seem opposed to the idea.

Well, she didn't seem resistant to another date. That was a good sign. Maybe the first one hadn't gone as bad as he thought it did. Though she clearly wasn't head over heels in love with him, which wasn't a good sign. At least by his own standards. Normally other phony would be throwing themselves at him before the first date was even half way done. Lovely Corpse was certainly proving a tough nut to crack. She didn't even seem that impressed by the flowers. Maybe he should've brought dead ones over instead, the flutter sighed as he thought to himself.
"You do me such a great kindness allowing me to have you on my arm again," he purred. "I have the perfect place in mind to show you now that i know you a bit better. I can only hope that you'll allow me to get to know you entirely," the stallion shot her a wink.
"Would it be ok if i held your hoof while we walked?" The purple male was already reaching out his own, hoping that maybe the physical contact would provoke some sort of warmth from her.

"Mm," she hummed, taking a step closer. It was hard to tell if she was exactly warming up to him, but at least she seemed receptive. Lovely Corpse didn't necessarily have any friends -- the mare hardly left home and, when out and about, generally had dead things on her pony, and that wasn't exactly an ice breaker. However, she nodded at Happy Endings' musings about getting to know her better, whether she understood the implications or not.
Staring at the stallion's hoof, it took Lovely Corpse another moment of staring blankly -- one would assume to process what exactly was happening -- before she offered her own and looked back up at Happy Endings. It was hard to tell but maybe, just maybe, her smile seemed a bit bigger. "Ok."

The flutter's eyes lit up at this small victory and he grinned. She was in the bag now. All she had to do was notice his transparent hoof and she'd find him oh so intriguing and mysterious. Maybe he could even pull off that move where you yawn and wrap your arm around the mare's shoulder. That would just be the icing on the cake. She was sure to be his once she saw where they were going!
And with these thoughts in his head, the stallion led his teal colored date down the street towards phonyland's very own natural history museum. He'd spent the past few days since he last saw Lovely Corpse planning it out. She did taxidermy and loved dead things, well the natural history museum was full of taxidermied dead things! She was going to love it! And by association she would love him. Then he'd get all the free food and weird presents for his sister his little heart desired. It was oh so perfect in Happy's head.

Fortunately for Happy Endings, Lovely Corpse had, indeed, noticed his hoof -- this was met with a brief bout of staring -- but unfortunately for the stallion, that was all that happened. It was interesting, for sure, but it didn't seem to click anything in the mare's mind like he had hoped.
As they walked, the teal pony's movements were admittedly a little awkward; she wasn't used to holding hooves with someone while she walked, and normally carried things in a satchel as to not hinder herself. It wasn't unwelcomed -- or at least it didn't seem that way -- and her wandering attention appeared to relay her "comfort."
While there wasn't a drastic change to Lovely Corpse's expression when they arrived at their destination, a small glint did shine in her black eyes as she registered where they were. She'd been here before, once as a small filly, and she remembered seeing all the interesting exhibits and preserved animals. Perhaps they had updated since then, as it had been a few admitted years, and while it wasn't obviously apparent the prospect did excite the pony despite her never changing expression.
Looking to Happy Endings, the corners of Lovely Corpse's smile did seem to turn up just a tad more.

The stallion squinted at his companion, waiting to see her reaction to the location he'd chosen for their date. He'd put so much thought into what place would make Lovely like him. Yet, her reaction seemed to be no more than i slight twitch of the corner of her mouth. Did all phony just react this way to the dates he took them on and he'd just never noticed? Happy chewed his lip, looking grim. Maybe he'd just been imagining the happiness of others when they spent time with him. Maybe everyone was just pretending to enjoy his company out of pity.
The flutter's stomach churned nervously as he stared at Lovely. "I hope this is ok. I figured you'd like some of the exhibits..." His wings twitched and he cast a doubtful glance towards the museum, questioning his entire purpose now. "If you want to go somewhere else that's fine."

Lovely Corpse had noticed the bite to the stallion's lip and her head tilted curiously. No, she quite liked the surprise date and Happy Endings' chosen location! There was little room for any other expression on the mare's disturbingly, perpetually pleased face, so it was easy to miss her subtle changes. Her eyes never left her companion's face as he expressed his concerns.
Taking a couple of leisurely steps towards her friend, Lovely Corpse offered a gentle nudge to his face and neck -- whether or not it was platonic or what, one couldn't say. "It' good," she said simply, hardly even attempting to add distance between herself and Happy Endings. "T'ank."

Oh. Well this was a turn in a positive direction. The flutter stallion blushed lightly, regaining some of his confidence back. Maybe he hadn't chosen poorly after all. "It was no problem. No problem at all," he grinned, running a hoof through his mane as he approached the ticket counter. Nodding to the cashier, Happy ordered two tickets as he planned his next move.
"Is there a particular exhibit you'd like to see first?" The stallion murmured while leading his companion towards the turnstiles. "I'm sure you know all about this sort of stuff. It's clear from your work that you're brilliant," he purred.

As the two trotted casually in, Lovely Corpse's gaze fell upon many things: the walls, ceiling, other ponies... It wasn't often that she ventured to populated areas unless on an errand run, so she was like a curious child in a candy store -- just... seemingly less outwardly excited. Still, it was hard for her to keep her attention on one thing for more than a couple seconds before something else would catch her eye.
It wasn't something she ever specifically mentioned to anyone, but she did love pony watching.
The mare's attention perked and her head rose just a tad at Happy Endings and his question. Lovely Corpse had put little thought on where to go first; she usually would just wander until she'd had her fill. She nodded about her knowledge but completely disregarded the stallion's compliment. To be honest... there was always one particular exhibit she did enjoy, and -- to no one's surprise -- it was the display filled with professionally made taxidermy animals. However, she gave a gentle shake of her head as a 'no,' preferring to just soak in the sights as they went. That is, unless Happy had something up his sleeve.

She didn't have a preference huh? That came as a surprise. The flutter was sure Lovely would have jumped at the chance to see the taxidermied animals first. Perhaps she wasn't aware the exhibit existed? In that case maybe it was best to save it for last, a sure fire way to make sure the date ended perfectly. Maybe he'd start off with what most mares would find enjoyable. Even if his companion was a little odd, he doubted she couldn't appreciate the beauty of his first choice for an exhibit.
"How about you close your eyes and I'll lead you somewhere amazing?" He smiled. The butterfly exhibit would definitely make her swoon. Who could resist the delicate wings, the brilliant colors? Maybe he'd get lucky and one would land on him. Then he could impress her with his gentle touch. He'd show her that even butterflies couldn't resist him. She might as well confess her love already!

Oh, she was fully aware. It definitely was one of the first exhibits Lovely Corpse would approach when around. However, she wasn't picky -- and while her concept of a "date" might have been warped, even if it had or hadn't been specifically called that, the mare figured that Happy Ending would have his own special plans or agenda (and truly, he did).
Staring into the stallion's eyes, Lovely Corpse stood for what felt like a solid minute doing nothing... perhaps thinking? As if it had finally processed, she closed her eyes and scooted forward, though probably not as close as Endings probably would have liked. Still, she had approached, so it wasn't as if she didn't like the idea it seemed? She still wasn't the most responsive, but at least she was apparently fine with going with the flow.
