For Shun to take a day off was highly suspicious. June wasn't sure he did anything except work. Admittedly she'd never asked him about any other hobbies because Shun intimidated her a little bit and she felt bad asking about non-work-related-matters.
But Shun even came in when he was sick.
Never had she heard him call in and not say a word about it.
So when he came in the next day she had to pry a little bit. It reeked of something magical when Jeremiah and Leila also seemed affected. Like with Jeremiah, she was concerned about office morale ... but also a bit on a friendly-personal level.
"Um ... Mr. Kuroda are you in, sir?" She knocked once on the wall in front of his office before crossing over. She waited for permission before going further with the conversation.

Shun had been checking over a few files, getting ready to organize things here and there when he heard June's voice and knock off to the side. He let out a sigh. Did he miss a memo about signing something?
"What is it, June?" he asked wearily, not glancing over at her, keeping his eyes on his screen.
Even with that day off he took, he was still tired as all hell. He barely got any proper sleep. He had a feeling it was going to be like this for awhile.

Oh he looked bad. Having seen Shun most days for work, June knew what a normal Shun looked like and it was not this. Well the sigh was normal. Most people did that when she approached.
"Oh, um." She held up a very small folder of no more than 10 papers. "I just gathered some information for your cases while you were out. I ... thought it'd be helpful for you." She looked around for a moment. Normally people either shooed her off or welcomed her with eye contact at minimum. It was seeming a bit like the former with his eyes on the screen.
"I'll just ... put this here." She stepped forward and awkwardly slid the folder onto his desk.

Shun finally turned to see the folder, letting out a light sigh. Even though the folder appeared to be rather thin, he wasn't too thrilled to be seeing papers. Hopefully it was mostly images or whatever.
"Thank you," he muttered, reaching over to take the papers, then began to look them over.

They were mostly pictures; minor crime scene updates from forensics, pictures of new suspects in a minor arson case, a small list of names for potential witnesses that needed to be talked to (all highlighted and color coded to indicate which ones were most important). The two pieces in the folders were 1) an invitation to Nancy Houston's small company picnic that she hosted every year and was generally a pleasant get together and 2) a tiny flower shaped sticker that said GREAT!
The last two were a stretch but that was who June was.
"Oh, it's no trouble," she said. "I was surprised to see you missing yesterday at all!"

Shun flipped through the papers, getting a feel of what he needed to dig through later on. Once he got to the flower sticker, he just picked it up and raised his brow. What.
"I did call in, did I not?" he asked.

"Oh ... yes, I just mean." She pushed up her glasses and took a small breath. "You ... are a really hard worker and don't usually take work off."
She waved her hands. "Not that it's bad! I'm sure you needed the break and we're happy to have you back, of course."

"I was not feeling well," he stated tersely, not really wanting to go into further details. With the sticker still in hand, he looked over the other oddity among the files. Shun took a moment, squinting to decipher what was on it.
A... picnic?
That wasn't very useful. Both that flier and the sticker were tossed into the nearby recycling bin.

It made June frown a little, but she didn't say anything about it. He could have at least waited until she was out of the room ...
"Oh. Better now?"

The detective lightly shrugged, "I am here now."
He really wasn't all that much better. Not at all. Shun was exhausted, and he was doing what he could to keep his mind off of his failures at the ball. Off of the fact that Melany was still alive somewhere out there, in the human realm even. He could have prevented it. He could have ended it right then and there. He could have --
Shun closed his eyes, drawing in a deep breath.

June normally would have politely stepped out and said her goodbyes, but ...
"Is something wrong? I don't mean to pry, sorry ..." Her fingers pinched at the bottom of her sweater.

"I am fine," Shun replied quietly as he resumed looking over the new information he had just received. It looked like there were a few people he was going to need to come in contact with. Hopefully speaking with them would go better than how he performed at the ball. It was not as if they were supernatural entities that each had hidden agendas for what they wanted out of the himself and the visitors.
Then again...
"Is there anything else you need?"

She pursed her lips slightly. "Let me try the question again- is it something ... magic related?" she asked a bit more directly. A magic flu maybe? Is that what the others had come down with too?

"Maybe."
It was all he said in response, keeping his attention mostly focused on the files and papers he had on hand, studying the various images for the cases he currently had.

"I'd like to know what happened ... if you don't mind ..." She had moved to pulling a curl of her hair. It was hard for June to request things, let alone from someone like Shun.
