The evening had started off quiet enough, with only a few people out and about.
But it was evening in Destiny City and quiet evenings didn't tend to last long.
It was true of this particular evening as the quiet was suddenly broken by something going crashing and a growl...
It was followed a few moments latter by a cat's snarl and a loud metallic clatter.
The noise appeared to be coming from behind one of the alleyways running behind shops that had closed up for the evening.
And it seemed like that there was something very much up in the alleyways this particular evening as the sounds of yet more crashing rang out, the noise punctuated by yet more growls and a very feline yowl.

It wasn't a hot night, fall was slowly starting to set in, thus Fionan had on a light hoodie and jeans rather than a t-shirt and shorts. Sneakers were normal, he didn't wear much else on his feet - ever. He had a pair of dress shoes but they only got worn for important things, where they were a mandatory.
Fionan was walking home, hands in his pockets. A duffel bag was slung over his shoulder, he was just coming home from indoor hurling practice, he was planning on a nice hot dinner when he got home - his mother likely had something waiting for him. It was the loud sounds which drew him away from his set course. It sounded like some sort of fight, or something, going on and not that far away either.
Hearing a cat, that was a rather distinct and hard to miss sound, he hurried his pace as he headed toward the sounds. One hand unzipping his duffel bag as it sought out the hurley he kept in there. Made from a good solid wood it could make a good weapon, and he was planning on using it for just that if need be, but first he needed to see just what was going on.
When he got there, to the scene of whatever was happening, he saw a cat and...a shadow - the hell? At least is seemed like a shadow but it moved and did things no shadow could plus there was nothing for it to be a shadow of. "What the hell is going on?" The blond questioned as he looked about, muddy green eyes trying to figure this out and coming up blank. This didn't make a bit of sense to him. His duffel bag lay on the ground and the wooden hurley was in his right hand now.
The cat was a tabby bobtail and on the small side - ordinary enough perhaps - at least if one discounted the jade green star set on his forehead or the jewellery around front paw and tail that glinted in the light from a nearby street lamp.
The cat's attention wasn't on the approaching civilian however, but rather on the 'shadowy' figure in the more darkened part of the alleyway, fur-puffed up on end in as it hissed and tried to swipe out at the figure...
And whilst Liryn would normally have perhaps been more aware of his surroundings, his attention was caught up on the youma in front of him.
He had been out hunting for potential tinkering components when he had picked up on the things aura and whilst a more sensible cat might have called for back up, Liryn had instead worked on trying to track the thing down.
That he'd been successful could be seen in the state of the alleyway, as evidenced by the bits of junk and rubbish that had been either overturned or shredded.
A dark fur-covered arm chose that moment to come swiping out from the shadows at that moment, forcing Liryn to dodge out the way of what appeared to be razor sharp claws.
There was a horrible screech as the claws instead hit the metallic side of a nearby trash can and sent it toppling over with a loud crash.

Wincing at the loud, and almost ear piercing, sound of claws on metal. It was, for him, what was nails on a chalk board for others. Well, that was another sound he apparently didn't like, the other being the sound of nail files - he grinned his teeth over that sound.
Shaking his head he stepped forward, hurley held now in both hands, he moved to stand in front of the cat. he didn't know what it was that was attacking it but he wouldn't let the cat get hurt - odd as it looked. Who let their cat out with jewelry on it? He knew some people bought expensive collars, feeding bowls, and other things for their pets but this cat looked like it had some over the top, insane, owner judging by what it wore. He was sure they were nuts, if not for purchasing what the cat wore, than for letting it out with those things on.
Bringing the hurley out in front of them, like some samurai with a sword, he held it out in front of himself like a weapon. He really hoped he didn't need to explain it's destruction to his family, he had another one but still, it was a rather expensive item.
"Damn cat, run." He said turning to look at the animal, hoping to scare it away. He really didn't want to let his eyes off of whatever had been attacking the cat. But he needed it to run...so he could do the same thing.
Purplish eyes looked up startled as intervention came in the form of sneakered feet planting themselves firmly in front of him.
A civilian?
Here?!
It had to be because there had been no tell tale flare of aura - in fact the only aura he was picking up on was the chill cold aura of chaos coming from the icky youma that he totally had cornered...
Well at least to Liryn he had the youma cornered, although someone looking at the situation with outside eyes may have perhaps perceived the whole thing differently.
The civilian was holding some sort of stick thing in front of him, with the curved flattened edge pointing outwards...
But whilst the stick looked solid enough and the civilian certainly appeared brave enough, Liryn wasn't sure how much help the stick would be without powered strength to back it up.
And so whilst he generally tried to play cat-cat with civilians - well at least civilians that he didn't suspect of being powered - for the first time Liryn broke something of a personal rule as he called out "It's dangerous to be out here - you should try and get away."
He tried to step forward as he spoke, his furry body brushing against the civilian's leg and then paused his purplish eyes startled.
Because for a moment he thought that he'd felt a spark of something...
However it wasn't something that he was given long to ponder as a clawed hand took the opportunity to try and swing out in the direction of the stick-wielding man still mostly standing between him and the monster.
"Watch out!"

He wasn't expecting to hear anyone talking, hadn't heard anyone approaching the scene, and turned his head from the shadows to look for the owner of the voice. Not finding a person, and feeling the brush of the cat against his legs, he looked down to see the cat and this had him missing the clawed hand headed his way.
Instead he saw the cat talk! A talking cat?! Staring he didn't react and move out of the way, though he should have, and instead found himself flying backward and landing on the ground. The hurley held tightly by one hand still, the other hand had lost it's grip on it.
"You can talk..." He whispered while he slowly sat himself up. The slashes across his arm were stared at then, blood taken note of. It wasn't new for him to get injuries, he played a contact sport, but how had a shadow done this? "A shadow...attacked me."
Confused, and surprised, eyes moved to stare at the shadow like creature. He knew he'd have bruises from where his back and side had made contact with the ground, no way to avoid that, but he also had to help. There was no way the cat could handle this. "You need to run kitty..."
His attempt at a warning had come too late as the youma sent the stick-wielding man flying backwards and by the metallic scent of blood on the air that wasn't all the monster had managed to do.
Liryn hissed and swiped out at the youma, causing the thing to roar as his claws dug in savagely, however he didn't follow up as he normally would have done, choosing to instead make a beeline for the civilian.
Or was that a maybe civilian.
Because whilst he thought that he'd perhaps felt the spark of something, Liryn couldn't be sure and there wasn't enough time to make sure.
"It's not a shadow it's a youma" he told the man "And I can't run - because if I do then that thing is going to hurt someone else."
Just like it had hurt the civilian who had tried to help him.
His purplish eyes were serious "I can't run but perhaps I can give you something better than a stick-thing with which to fight it."
He was moving as he spoke launching himself into a movement that looked suspiciously like a back flip.
Two things fell to the ground with a clatter as his paws touched the ground.
The first thing looked suspiciously like some sort of smartphone, however the second...
The second appeared to be some sort of oversized pen.
Liryn nudged the pen for a moment before continuing "I can't make you choose to use this pen, but if you do then you should hold it up and try calling out Pleione Power, Make-Up with as much feeling as you can muster..."
He continued "Or if not you should really get out of here."
He turned on that last before launching himself in the direction of the youma as he called "But I'll buy you some time whatever you choose."

["This stick thing is a hurley." He answered the cat, he still couldn't believe he was talking to a cat and it was talking back. People talked to cats all the time, and other pets, but how many actually talked back? Not like like the videos on youtube of husky's talk or how cats respond by meowing loudly - but actually answered. This was something which would really hit him later...when he wasn't fighting some..youma, what the hell was a youma exactly?
What better thing could a cat give him though? There wasn't anything useful laying around from what he could tell, though he may have missed something. He was slowly working on standing up, using the hurley to assist him in getting his legs under him.
Before he could get his legs under him the cat was...making things appear, what next a rabbit out of a hat? This night was becoming very strange and very weird. He knew that he wasn't leaving the cat though, not to whatever fate that shadow thing would bring about for the cat, so he didn't hesitate in grabbing the pen like object and holding it up.
The words weren't easy on his tongue, at least not the first, it was very odd but he called out anyway. "Pleione power, make up!" He wasn't expecting what came next but, again, he would deal with it later. Right now...the cat needed his help. The phone lay forgotten for now as he got up to his feet and went to assist, grabbing up the hurley he'd let go of when grabbing the pen from the ground.
Deciding to call attention to himself he threw the hurley at the youma, with as much force as he could manage.
Liryn hadn't been sure that the other would opt to try and use the henshin pen and he hadn't been sure that it would even work even if he did.
The youma had left him with no time to do much of anything, which had meant that he had been left to take a chance on a 'maybe' spark and desperate hunch.
But he had meant it when he had promised to buy the man time, because Liryn didn't want the other to end up getting hurt any more on his behalf.
And at first it had gone well enough, in part because it wasn't the first youma that he had faced and in part because Liryn was relatively quick on his feet and tended to use it to his advantage.
Then the youma had made a move that had taken him by surprise and sent him tumbling.
Perhaps, just perhaps it was time to use the kitty beam despite the cost - because if the man who tried to help him did choose to run then Liryn wanted to buy him as much time as he could in which to do so.
He forced himself to his feet, ignoring the pain, only to feel the warm aura of a base rank order senshi flare into being.
It was followed shortly after by 'something' going flying through the air that hit the youma in what passed for a face just as one clawed hand tried to swipe at him.
There was a howl of pain from the direction of the youma, followed by the clatter of something tumbling and hitting the ground.

He knew the cat would buy him time, or try to, he didn't know how but he wasn't going to run - he wanted the cat to run. As he stood there hoping the youma would focus itself on him fully, he wasn't some tiny cat, he could handle more of a beating.
As the claws came toward the cat, his hurley flying at the things face, he dove for the cat to keep it safe. Using his own body as a shield he turned his muddy eyes onto the cat.
"You should at least get behind me, you can't fight it on your own." He stated, muddy eyes darting down to the cat he was hoping to have kept safe. If he himself was injured he didn't feel it at that moment, too caught up in what he was doing. "Your already hurt." Which meant Fionan would be trying to bring the cat home for the night, at least, to care for it. The poor thing had already been beaten up and even more so in order to help him, when he'd been trying to help it.
"Tell me what to do and I will, we need to get out of here." Especially the cat, although he didn't say this. Pushing himself up, hissing in pain, he noted more blood...more injuries - great. Oh well, it wasn't like he didn't get banged, bruised and cut up fairly often anyway and he already had a few sports related scars.
"I'm not really a sidelines mauvian" Liryn admitted as his purplish eyes looked up into muddy green, because it just wasn't in him to stay on the sidelines when he could be out there helping "Besides you're hurt too."
He continued "But perhaps we can work together on getting rid of that menace?"
He made it a question, giving the other the choice as he continued to look up into the new senshi's eyes.
"You're stronger like this, faster too... And you have magic as well." He frowned for one long moment in concentration before continuing "I'd try 'Rolling Fog' if you want to try using it" because magic generally tended to be helpful in situations like this.
And whilst it would be for the new senshi to find out what his magic did, the words in themselves seemed right to Liryn.
He grinned, a wide feline grin as he added "But I'm not out either" because he still had some tricks under his paws - tricks that included the kitty beam if it had to come down to it "And I know that between us we can dust that thing."

"Mauvian..." He questioned, well sort of, the word just sort trailing off as he looked to the kitty. Obviously it was a talking cat but beyond that he didn't know, if there was anything even beyond that.
"I can handle a few injuries better than you can. But yes, we can work together." Though he didn't know what a cat could do, he assumed the..Mauvian could do something since they were offering. He just really didn't have a clue what they could do.
Ok...so faster and stronger. But magic...well this was a cat talking to him and telling him this. So what was a little bit of magic added to the equation. Shaking his head he found himself listening to what the cat said. The cat provided the words but his own body provided the motions as he soon appeared to be...blowing a kiss at the youma? Why he didn't know but the words the cat had given him "Rolling fog" passed his lips just like fog which rolled out from his hand. The fog was dense and wide spread as it engulfed the youma. He had no idea what was going on inside the fog he had summoned up but it was interesting to look at. It was like a thick and heavy veil separating them both from the youma.
"Safe?"
litian
Sailor Scout Attack: Rolling Fog Sailor Pleione chooses a target within 10' of where he is standing (himself, an enemy or an ally) then brings his hand to his mouth and blows as if he were blowing a kiss. A fog rolls out from the palm of his hand and engulfs the target in a 10' radius of dense fog.
Effect 1: To those standing outside this mist other individuals find it difficult to see whomever is standing inside the epicenter of the fog and have an increased difficulty when trying to attack the person that is currently being shrouded.
Effect 2: Enemies inside the fog find themselves under the effect of cold damp/ chilly air and may begin to shiver. For Allies they are unaffected by the cold and his attack works more as a barrier.
Rolling Fog lasts for 20 seconds and can be used three times in battle. Though it is not dodge-able as the fog rolls out towards the enemy even as they move, whomever is inside can step out of it at will once the 7' radius has fully formed.
Whilst Liryn had seen quite a fair bit of magic in his time, seeing magic in play was something that never got old...
And the new senshi's magic was pretty impressive, the magic taking the form of fog that rolled out and towards the youma, engulfing the monster in a cloud of dense fog.
And whilst he could hear growls coming from the direction of the youma, there weren't any claws coming rushing in their direction.
Liryn was willing to bet it was because of the fog, which was doing a good job of shrouding them from the thing's view and whilst the youma still had to be dealt with it, at least the fog was giving them a chance to come up with a proper plan.
"Safe enough" he agreed cheerfully as he listened to the noises coming from the direction of the fog. "Safe enough to make a proper plan."
He eyed the fog in fascination for a moment before his purplish eyes turned serious "But we'll have to make that thing turn to dust in order to get rid of it." He continued "Sometimes magic is enough if the magic is of the offensive type, but hitting it with something heavy also tends to do it" he looked thoughtful as he continued "I think perhaps doing another something similar to whatever you did earlier might be just enough to do the trick" before adding "And I can play distraction in order to keep it's attention off you for the most part."
At least Liryn was pretty confident that he could keep the youma focused on him rather than on the senshi, because it wouldn't be the first time that he had played the distraction game.
It was hard to know however whether Liryn's mental viewpoint of the situation was one that the other shared - particularly given that Liryn had already demonstrated how he played 'distraction'.

Watching what happened, rather impressed, he stood there unsure what else to do until the cat started talking again. He really would freak out later, when he got home, this night was just...intense. He didn't have the time to freak out - yet. He'd get that time later, he was sure of it.
"Yeah....I can get my hurley once the fog is gone so I can see it..." He didn't like the idea of the cat playing distraction - again. But he couldn't complain or fight it either, he needed the distraction so he could retrieve his hurley from the ground. It was somewhere in that fog and he was going to need it. "Once I get it I can hit the...youma with it." And it would turn to...dust. Yup, tonight was a weird night and very...strange.
"I don't think this magic I have if offensive...a good bit pf protection is what it is, even if it doesn't mean to be." It was a distraction, sort sorts, but also due to how thick the fog was it also worked as a shield of sorts as it made seeing and thus attacking difficult.
Whilst the night was perhaps shaping up to be something of an odd one for the new senshi, it was something that Liryn was used to.
Although the mauvian was likely part of the strangeness given that - at least for all intents and purposes - he appeared to be a talking cat.
He listened to the other's comment about his magic before brushing against his leg.
"True" he agreed cheerfully "But it doesn't make it any less impressive" adding "Your fog magic's really neat."
He brushed against the other's leg gently at his question about whether he'd be safe and for a moment his voice was gentle but serious as he said "I'll be okay Pleione."
And then the moment was broken as he winked a bright purplish eyed wink as he added "After all I owe you a talk and an explanation once this is all over and that youma's been dealt with."
His gaze shifted to the fog "But first things first..."
Because when the magic came to an end Liryn planned to be ready.
