Ikaika had wandered too far this time, but his attention was all for what lay ahead not what trailed behind. He was in the small town on the border between the two main regions, it was here that he encountered his first aquaintances from the other race. My goodness they were indeed tall, but he kind of liked that, he bet they could see for quite aways with their more lofty height.

He sort of walked around enjoying and absorbing the sights around him. People came and went in waves it seemed, with much excited chatter and whispering among themselves and about the others.

Ikaika poked about for a likely conversationalist. He was not normally a really talkative sort, but well these were exceptional circumstances and silence couldn't really be borne!

Nope not that one, nor that one..oh ..well maybe that one? They looked about the right age to relate to him. it was best to get the new information from someone similiar to himself to his logic.

He wasn't entirely sure when he released his fathers hand, one moment they had been together and the next separated. They had come to a different village to trade, and perhaps his fathers full arms had prevented him from keeping a firm grip on Kai's hand. Either way the man was no where to be seen, it caused Kai's brows to furrow and as he slipped out of the river to take a gander of the shore line alarm bells rung off.

Right, his father always warned him about shallow ambush predators...had he even looked for them before approaching the shore? Chewing on his lower lip he gave a late glance around, though it seemed laugh worthy to think any predator would frequent this area. Too many eyes were watching, and the constant to and fro onto land and to the water would quite possibly irritate the creatures.

Still he was thankful that he had some common sense to look for the creatures. Sighing he went to sit down on a rock, waiting for his father to return. It was better to stay in one place if you get separated...and it was safe enough here. So he watched as people went back and forth to the rivers edge. Emerging with arm loads of things for trade or disappearing to go back to their homes in the deeper reached of the river. There were many of the darker skinned people here too...though they were on the borders of the river...so he shouldn't of been so surprised by the sight of them.

Fiddingly with the wrap around his waist he waited, and as he waited the more worried he became.

Ikaika came closer to the shore he had been out to get a better vantage point but he slipped back in as soon as he saw someone that he could feel comfortable talking to. He sort of didn't want to talk but that was quite typical of him. This time he would be really brave and just do it.

"Um hello?" Ikaika said softly to the Kaha'iko, "I'm new here..." He ducked his head but lookedmup again hopefully. "Do you live nearby?"

He paused, the other looked worried, "Oh, are you okay?" He felt pretty terrible putting himself out there like that, he felt really exposed and nervous but this was part of trying his best to make friends so he took a deep breathe of the clear water and waited.

It was getting to the point he would need to return to the water, he could feel the tightness in his chest and that burning feeling when air felt little in supply. Dizzy he stood up, as someone spoke to him he jumped against his well.

Turning he looked bleary eye'd at the owner of the voice, "Ah...no...I..don't." He managed before he quickly joined the boy in the water. Feeling the coolness wash over his gills he breathed a sigh of relief as fresh oxygen reached him.

"S..sorry. I shouldn't of been out so long...but I was hoping my father...would...spot me easier that way." Kai managed as he turned to face the boy, he was of the marsh decent which was easy to tell due to his dark muddy colored skin. Beyond that Kai knew little about the marsh people. "I don't suppose you've seen my father?" Kai inquired looking at Ikaika hopefully.

"Umm, well I might have, I saw a few guys that look like you just over there, all seemed to be alone, a few had armfuls of things that they were carrying around." He had been a bit preoccupied with how tall they were of course, but he had noticed a few other things.

"Maybe if you described him for me? Does he have anything like jewellery on that might distinguish him from the hoards of other folk walking around?" Ikaika swivelled his head, examining any of the tall river folk who wandered close. He wouldn't be much help until he knew what he was looking for. But he was excited to help, the poor boy had lost his parent and Ikaika knew how distraught he himself would be in the same circumstances.

He patted the boys shoulder gently then swam a little ways out to get a better look at a tall male passing by. "Is that him?" The man didn't much look like the child but who knew, maybe he took after his mother or something?
