Silas leaned on the railings of his upstairs apartment, warm mug of coffee between his hands. It was early morning and he watched as a few early risers, like himself, walked past his home. A small smile curled up the corners of his lips as he spied a child and parent duo — the child tugging at the adult’s arm and chattering on about something Silas couldn’t quite make out being so far away. Pushing away from the railing, he took a drink of his coffee, eyes closing as he enjoyed the warmth of it going down his throat and coursing through his body.

The thought of children made Silas long for a family. He had yet to find that special someone to share his life with and yet the want of a child was stronger than that want. He came from a small family — an only child — and ever since he was little he’d promised himself that he would have a large family with several children and, eventually, grandchildren. Each day that passed, and the more kids he interacted with — Silas owns a bookstore (which he lives over) and has a large children’s and young adult’s section — the stronger the want of a family was. Whether he had that special someone to share the rest of his life with.

Silas moved further into his two bedroom apartment, knowing full well what the rest of his day would entail. Normally he would open up shop in about an hour, sit down and browse the internet for new additions to his store and wait for customers to start trickling in. Today, however, was going to be different. He sat his coffee down to the side, dressed and scribbled a small, quick note onto a piece of paper. As Silas stepped out of his apartment door, he tapped the note to the bookstore’s front door — a little note to his customers saying that he had personal business to attend to today and would not be open.

Imbuing a stone was the logical next step for Silas. And what better day than today to get started on a journey that might very well change the course of his life forever.

He was extremely excited to say the least..
