Tryston was still trying to get his bearings. Since his “awakening” in the mountains the boy had only gotten strange stares as he headed towards the border of Zena. He was thankful that most of his outfit often covered him, but when he was exposed as he was now while climbing down a trail away from any towns or villages the boy could be seen as a strange sight. White decorated his hair while his eyes shone a silver far different from the typical gold of an ice earthling and his own crystals seemingly were made of ice themselves. He still couldn’t make sense of it nor could he understand the growing powers he felt when he was surrounded by ice.

His mentor had stated that perhaps there was more to his parentage that exceeded anyone’s expectations, but Tryston doubted it. How could there be? He was just a baby dropped off to a bunch of sell swords. The thought made his stomach clinch. Before he would have called them wandering knights, but more recent events had shown that his world was quite different from what he had previously believed. Even now he was supposedly dead – killed by those he thought brothers. Clenching his jaw at the thought the male slipped down from an overhanging and continued on his way through the winding path of snow and ice.

Surely soon enough he would be out of Zena and on his way through the rest of Tendaji - and then hopefully he could figure out the truth and what he was meant to do now.

The morning had been particularly stressful at home, and despite his fears of being alone, anything was better than staying there. He just needed a short break. That was all. Surely his parents would understand. Well.. surely his father would... hopefully.

Ergon tried to keep his mind busy thinking of songs and stories. He walked along the snowy paths humming to himself. Maybe he could write a little song for his mother... Maybe that would help... He felt so powerless...

Wiping at his eyes to keep the tears from freezing to his face, he sat on the ledge of the path and let his feet hang over. From there, he could feel like he ruled the world.

Did he hear a song in the breeze? Frowning Tryston looked up from his wandering to glance around. Who would be out here by themselves? Well admittedly he had even lost track of the path so it was possible some homes may be scattered around...Tryston grimaced at the thought. The last thing he needed was more trouble after just recovering from his last fight. Still, the male's fingers did tighten around the handle of the blade hanging at his side. At least this time he would feel more prepared to tackle whatever obstacle the fates threw at him this time.

What he wasn't expecting, however, was the sight of a youngling just hanging out in the path. Gaze narrowing Tryston glanced over at the boy who just sat there in his way. Did he walk on or did he actually stop to consider worrying about the child? Now this was something he truly wasn't trained in. Sighing ever so quietly under his breath the male decided to just continue forward - walking around the boy he continued a few paces down the path before pausing again. Was....was that the right decision? He almost peered back as if fearful of how to handle the child.

At first, Ergon dismissed the sounds of the footsteps easily. It wouldn't be his father, and certainly not his mother. He spared only a small glance as the stranger passed by. ..What was that person?! Well, clearly not Zenan, so it didn't matter. Wiping his face against his sleeve again, he resumed his watch over the valley below. It wasn't as though some random person could help.

He was strong! He just needed a moment, and then he could go back to the house. He didn't need some traveler!

What if it was freezing out here and was lost? Oh gods why? He really didn't want to have to deal with a child especially now. Maybe if he just stood for a few more moments a mother or father would appear? Anyone? Glancing around Tryston saw that absolutely no one else would be out here.

And the boy was crying...

Sighing, Tryston turned fully around and plopped down on the snow next to the child so that he could stare him over. The question was obviously written on his face - do you need help? Other than that he just glanced away and made no noise as he too stared over the valley below them.

As soon as the place next to him was filled, Ergon looked over at the stranger curiously. What that-? No. Definitely not Zenan. Yet, the man was showing concern for him...

Pft. Like a non-Zenan would ever actually be concerned. Ergon's nose wrinkled clearly with distaste, and he looked back out. "Move on," he ordered, pressing his lips to stop his jaw from trembling. He couldn't show weakness in front of someone.

oh it was rather tempting. He was being told to leave so he could just simple get up and walk into the snow never to be seen again...Tryston frowned as he had to halt his thoughts. That obviously wasn't the right decision. He unfortunately was stuck with the child until some sign of life came to take it away from his watch. Until then though he wanted to make certain that the boy didn't become something for a wild pack of raptrix to enjoy.

So he just crossed his arms and simply shook his head before glancing around some more. Tryston was determined to not leave any time soon - especially now that he had already made his mind up about doing the right thing.

He saw the small movement from the corner of his eye, prompting him to look over. The man.. wasn't leaving? A little uncertain, he did a little scootch to put a little space between himself and the stranger. "I don't need anything from you, you.. whatever you are."

Tryston almost laughed at the boy's attempt to space them out. Perhaps not speaking wasn't his best idea...but the man had lately found it harder to really be social considering his recent situation. Yet the boy's declaration did push him to finally say something, "I'm Zenan just like you." He commented quietly with a slight frown.

Surely he looked different, but not that completely different. It wasn't like he was a freak...right? Tryston sighed at the thought. Maybe staying fully hidden from the world was the better idea - but once again the thought of leaving the boy alone in the snow made him stop. Truly, he couldn't do it as it wasn't the right thing. The last thing he also needed was for a youngling's death to haunt his conscious.

The declaration made Ergon's head whip around with surprise. "How dare you!" he scolded. "Zenan's don't have stones or eyes like that. You're not Zenan!" The boy was quite sure of himself, being taught his narrow view of what a Zenan 'was' ever since he was born. "Still, there's nothing you can do for me anyway. Go on."

Of course, right then was when he felt the urge to sneeze through his stuffy nose, and he pulled out a handkerchief to catch it. The reflex made his little body twitch and slide forward, legs going further over the side with the rest of him starting to follow. Instinctively, his arm snapped out to reach for the man...

Not everything is as it appears.

That line was the first thing to come to mind as the little boy pointed out the obvious differences that made Tryston stand out lately, "It's complicated." He stated simply with a small shrug. He wasn't one to fight the kid on what he was - Tryston knew himself and that was good enough for him. His gaze narrowed at the rejection and Tryston shook his head again. This was not going to be an easy case was it? So much for a peaceful afternoon...

As the boy slipped Tryston moved automatically though his mind went back to his own fall. Constynce...he was just so glad he had managed to get her out of that...just as he was glad he could grab the boy. Reaching forward Tryston didn't move in time to completely save the boy - rather he managed to just wrap an arm around the child as they both slipped down the cliff. Fortunately for them it seemed the snow was more solid than powder and so Tryston's free hand managed to somehow grab onto the ice so that he could stop their fall.

Still it left them about midway towards the valley below as Tryston had them hanging onto the side of the cliff, "Hang on tightly...I'll climb." He commanded sharply as he attempted to get his boots into the cliff side to help push them forward and back up towards solid ground. He just hoped the child would stay still so that they could get back without anymore problems.

First instinct for Ergon was to cling desperately to the man holding him, screaming as they slid. He could only think of his parents. He didn't want to hurt them like Kaygon had! He held onto the man for his life, sobbing as their fall came to a sudden halt. "I can't leave them, too," he stuttered out, pressing his face against Tryston's chest, mindlessly venting. "Kaygon left them! I can't leave, too! Mother's already sad! I wanna go home!"

Tryston blinked in surprise at the boy's reaction. So that crying had been for a reason then. "Don't worry." He commented sharply, "Just breathe I have you. Keep hold of my neck." He made certain that the boy was well attached to him with a free arm before using it along with his other hand to begin the slow climb up the cliff. Others may have worried about sliding on ice, but years of training along with some new developments allowed Tryston to keep a firm hold.

Even when a sharp wind blew against them Tryston just pressed the boy and himself up against the cliff to hold on, "We're getting there. It'll be okay." For someone not good at comfort he found the words just spilling out of his normally still lips. The last thing he needed was to lose the boy into the valley below...as the wind passed Tryston slowly began to move forward once again.

It may have felt like years, but eventually his hand found solid ground again and Tryston straining began to pull them forward and back onto the path...

Ergon didn't question the adult. He just held tightly, arms around Tryston's neck and legs wrapping as much as they could around Tryston's waist. For the moment, he forgot about the man's differences from himself and put his life in the other's hands. He allowed himself to take some comfort from the man's words. Surely the man would work hard to save himself. All Ergon had to do was hold on...

Feeling the climb change, he dared to turn his head and peek at their progress. After wiping his face on the nearest cloth available, which happened to be the adult's clothes, he started looking for a handhold of his own and scrambled up onto the path when he was able to. At once, he turned and grabbed the man's sleeve to help. He didn't have the strength to pull the man up.. but what else could he do for the man?

Tryston almost cursed as the shift in weigh nearly caught him off guard. At least the child made it safely up. There was some relief in that knowledge as he pushed himself up a few more inches towards the path. Would the child run off now and just leave since being saved? Considering the initial reaction to Tryston's appearance the male wouldn't be so surprised if that were the case.

What did surprise him though was the touch at his sleeve.

"I'm fine." Tryston managed after blinking in surprise towards the little hand that tried to help him, "Just back." Now that the child was off of his shoulders the ice male could feel a bit more at ease about scurrying the rest of the way up the cliff side. At the final place more snow did fall and Tryston did have to twist in order to avoid the small wall of powder that showered down the cliff and into the valley below. It may have appeared as if he fell again, but in reality the man had twisted upwards and now was laying next to the boy on the path.

Now that...was tiring. Sighing, Tryston moved his arms above his head without a word and simply just closed his eyes for a brief rest.
