User ImageSlowly but surely he was getting his body used to not being near the water all the time. Traveling with his father and grandfather had helped to broaden his horizons a great deal and he was finally getting rid of all that baby fat. Granted his tail still itched if he didn't get it wet or find a salve to put on it to keep it from drying out, but he was beginning to deal. Plus his father had taught him a thing or two which was nice. Tossing his head slightly to remove the hair from his eyes he moved, as gracefully as he could, through the semi-wooded area he had found himself in. He had left his family members not too far away while they had stopped to rest and went out to explore some of the nearby area. He liked to check out the flowers that grew in all the different locations and his wings fluttered behind him every so often, speeding up or slowing down depending on his mood. Finding some lilies nearby his wings sped up a little and he dipped his head towards them and inhaled their sweet scent and let out a sigh of satisfaction. The flutter in him loved flowers and he couldn't help but smell any when he came across them. Long ears turned as he thought he heard the sound of twigs snapping and head lifted as his green gaze searched for the creator of the noise.

The snap of the twigs beneath her claws sounded surprisingly loud within the silent woods. The mare winced, and her small, rounded ears flattened briefly as she glanced down at the offending branch. It didn't seem to matter that there was various woodland litter around her -- leaves, some late summer grasses, mulch, and dirt -- no, she would pick the one place to have hidden twigs and step full on them. She heaved a heavy sigh, oblivious to the fact that she was far from alone this day.

So it was, Quetzal gave a small chirrup, and kicked the twig unmercifully out of the way. There looked to be a small clearing where the trees might space out enough to allow her to preen. She knew she looked an absolute mess -- dislodged feathers, tangles in her long, black mane and tail, and she could tell her little mask was starting to sit funny on her face. Her latest crash had hurt one of her lower wings -- she kept it tucked tightly to her side, hoping it would heal with time. After that landing, Quetzal had vowed to keep to the ground. . . at least for a little while.

Ever unaware, the black and white mare finally pushed her way out of the thicker part of woods, and stumbled onto the soft grasses. She gave three of her wings a nice, luxuriant stretch, only to realize that she was far from alone. No, not far from her was another stallion -- some sort of butterfly winged soquili! Her glowing blue eyes went a bit wide, and her stretched wings quickly snapped shut. "Oh! Oh I'm sorry," she quickly apologized, a small chirrup in her words. "I didn't realize I wasn't alone. H-hello!" She wasn't sure if she should be embarrassed or not -- she'd gone so long without seeing another soquili that she was completely taken aback to all but run into someone! Shouldn't she have been able to tell she wasn't alone? Was she upwind or . . downwind or . . . Or had she simply not been paying attention? Were these lands his lands? Was she in trouble? A million things ran through the flighty creatures mind as she studied Marengo. To make matters worse, she was an absolute mess.

Oh bother. That would be just her luck, wouldn't it? The one day she finally meets someone and she looked even more of a hot mess than usual.

The spirits were certainly having a good laugh at her now, she was certain.

User ImageA hesitant feminine voice cut through the air and his sights fell upon the massive amounts of hair and feathers. Was there a mare hiding in there? It was a mental joke but he wouldn't say anything out loud. He gave her a warm smile and his wings fluttered behind him as he looked her over for a moment and then shook his head slightly at her. "Please, no need to apologize Miss." He said turning to face her fully so he could talk to her properly. His tail rest against the ground as he took a brief moment to take in the sight of her and he noted that she had four sets of clawed feet. She was quite interesting to him and he gave her a warm smile and a dip of his head in a bow as he introduced himself to her. "I'm Marengo, would it be too much to ask for your name?" He asked looking back at her as he raised his head and fluttered his wings behind him. He wondered if this was her area and her family had crossed into it perhaps.

He couldn't help but notice her glowing blue gaze though. It was unique and lovely to him, just like her massive amounts of hair and feathers. She looked so fluffy to him, he almost felt bad for how much hair she had. Perhaps he could get someone to braid it for her at some point. Though that was if he saw her again. He shook his head. It wasn't likely he'd ever see her again, though one did never know. "I'm not trespassing or anything am I?" He hoped not, while she didn't seem too fierce, her claws were quite dangerous looking and he didn't have much for defense against those. His genetics weren't really equipped for fighting anything bigger than himself.

The mare was glad that the stranger didn't seem hostile or aggravated by her appearance. In fact, the stallion was being nothing but kind. He had smiled at her, and while he did seem to look her over, she was used to such a thing; he probably was trying to figure out what she was, just like she was trying to figure out him! So it was, the mare offered the stranger a smile, and gave a small shake of her tail. She hoped that the other didn't notice her disheveled appearance; she had no way to rid herself of the twigs and dirt without preening, and she was certain that would draw even more attention to her appearance. Quetzal did give a small shake of her head, attempting to reposition her crooked lace mask.

"H-hello, Marengo. I'm Quetzal, and it's good to meet your acquaintence." She tried to keep her own worry from her words. So it was, the young mare tried to remember her manners; she gave a small dip of her head, and another smile. Thankfully, this stranger didn't seem overly put off. "I was just looking for water. This area is as new to me as it might be to you. If you're trespassing, then I am too, because I don't ... I don't really know where I am." She gave a small chuckle, though it came out far ore birdlike, a small series of chirps. The hippo'gryph was strong in her blood. "Are you passing through, too, sir?" She assumed he was some sort of stranger. If he was worried about trespassing, than that clearly made him new to the lands. Two small, curved ears twisted, trying to locate any other sources of sound that might affirm their location. Mostly, she wanted to ensure that neither of them WERE trespassing, and that a herd of angry soquili didn't come barging out of no where. Thankfully, aside from some woodland creatures chatter, or the gurgling of the stream, everything seemed relatively quiet.

User ImageHe quite admired the way she appeared and couldn't help but smile at her words. "That's such a lovely name, Quetzal." He wanted to say it at least once and fluttered his wings gleefully behind him as he watched her. She was very well mannered, he wondered if she did that on her own or if she was raised that way. Not that it was an important thing to know, it was always nice to meet someone who had manners.

Tossing his head slightly to remove his bangs from his face he blinked and fluttered his wings. "I know a nice spot for you to drink from if you're still thirsty." He offered her kindly with a flick of his tail behind him gently. "My family is staying not too far from here, we keep near the water.." He glanced back towards his tail. "I'm just passing through while my family is in the area." At least she was just passing through as well and he quite liked the way her laugh sounded, it was adorable. Though he refrained from saying so. He didn't want to scare her off or anything.
