A favor for Bennett "It's September soon, right?" He looks around as if expecting someone to respond to the month like a name. "I can't tell s**t about time in this place, with the moon and... whatever." "Anyway. I've got..." His voice drops to a whisper, breath tinged with toothpaste and fresh cigarettes. "I've got some information. I'm sure we all do, but I'm the only one telling it like it is up front. I'll give you what I know if you bring me a decent present. For my birthday. In September." You think he grins, but you can't see his lips under the mask. The expression is gone in a moment anyway. "Could you maybe not tell anyone I said anything though? I'm doing really good and I want to stay on top." He shoos you away and won't say more until you at least make an attempt to celebrate.

To successfully complete Bennett's favor, you must roll three six-sided die. These will select your solo/duo story elements! If an element has (Fail) next to it, disregard any further rolls and write a short post relating how you got to the point of failure. You may then retry, but only after your first post is filled!
If you're soloing it, you just fill in that post with your character's progress through the favor. Should you choose to RP this favor with another player, please make a thread in the event forum and link it in your roll post when you're done.
FIRST DIE: Where do you go to look for Bennett's gift?
1 - Near the fountain in the scarlet foyer.
2 - I can't remember.
3 - At the base of the stairs that lead to the ebony spire.
4 - I found something I think will be perfect right around the Burning Man! (Fail)
5 - Next to the dusty remains of the talking cats outside. (Fail)
6 - In a dark corner where no one has been.
SECOND DIE: What do you find?
1 - Two or three loose cigarettes.
2 - A tray of delicious fruit! Mmm! (Fail)
3 - A small animal.
4 - Several random cups of untouched wine.
5 - A flower.
6 - A pretty scarf. (Fail)
THIRD DIE: Does the gift make it back in one piece?
1 - I almost made it, but when I looked down, someone had stolen my gift! (Fail)
2 - It sure did!
3 - Someone tripped me! How rude. The gift is broken, but I still have the pieces... (Fail)
4 - Yes. It's not what it once was, but it's still perfectly acceptable.
5 - No, but it won't take long to set things right.
6 - Maybe...
Please quote Smerdle when you're done for information dispersal! Don't worry about tweaking things if you roll broken small animals, just go with it. <3

To be fair, Nathaniel Parrish had no idea what he was doing.
He was trying to seem as though he did know what he was doing, but, well, he could only hope so much and get so far. Nathaniel had tried to say that his birthday was also in September - but some information about what was happening this evening was more relevant than him turning another year older.
The dark corner was somewhere in the back of a room where no one seemed to be lingering. Nathaniel peered curiously around, wracking his brain for ideas as he rummaged through the shadows. Maybe if he was lucky, he'd find something shiny to bring back to the man.
His fingers brushed against something soft.
Nathaniel tugged and found himself with a silky scarf of some ivory color, edged in lace and dripping with pearls on one side of it. In spite of this fact, it was very light and delicate; he thought, maybe, it might do well to serve as a gift, wouldn't it..? Surely someone would appreciate such a fine, pretty scarf.
Unless the scarf was someone else's. It did look as though someone had just dropped it there.
Maybe he should have found something else. Sighing, Nathaniel set the scarf carefully over the arm of the nearest chair, made sure that it was in plain sight of whoever might stumble across it, and decided to go and find something else instead.Quote: 6 - In a dark corner where no one has been. 6 - A pretty scarf. He thought he saw something shiny in one of the rooms; something that could possibly be used as a nice present for someone's birthday. Maybe if he was careful about it, he'd be able to sort of...nudge it out with the toe of his boot, see if it was something worthwhile.
Nathaniel took two steps towards the gentleman, realized he was on fire, then backed away rather hastily.
Maybe somewhere else.

Nathaniel spent a good minute and a half sneezing outside from the dust of the talking cats, another minute trying to stop his eyes from watering, and approximately two and a quarter minutes trying to find the room he'd been before the whole sneezing incident had occurred.

It was probably the heat from the man on fire that made Nathaniel forget where he'd gotten the wine - or maybe it was just the fact that, after a while, all the rooms started to blur together into one. Either way, he was carefully making his way back to the birthday boy with several glasses perched precariously on a tray, doing, what he thought, was a rather good impression of a waiter.
(Except that he got stopped at least once by someone asking for a drink and stopped a third time by someone asking where the restroom was.)
Nathaniel finally appeared back at the birthday boy with the wine mostly intact, except for maybe a few drops spilling onto the tray in the process.
"Here," he said grandly, with as much bravado as he could possibly work up without sounding ridiculous. "I brought you a drink, everyone needs a drink for their birthday, right? So he couldn't do alcohol right. But maybe, maybe he could find someone a gift. It was a good enough idea and he was promised some information, which would be a boon in this event. So setting out, he decided to look by the once place he couldn't get to when trying to ferry some booze out of the room.
It was a little dark, but some motion caught his eye and he crept closer, managing to find a small creature that looked something between a fox and a cat. Maybe that would be a good gift? It was his best bet and he tried to grab it, to get it back to Bennett.
Unfortunately, it had it's own plan in mind and it evidently, did not want to be taken anywhere but where it wanted to go. Chris lunged forward, trying to grab it, but only managing to miss. It took an embarrassing amount of time and misses, but eventually, he caught the creature.
Fussing and it's fur absolutely puffed out, Chris presented it to Bennett, them both looking absolutely worse for the wear.

Bennett seemed pretty chill and actually eager to help solve this strange little mystery. While she'd spoken with confidence, she really had no idea what sort of thing he might like. What did Virgos typically go for - books? A stereotype, but she had nothing better to go off of. She stepped out, looking around. Oh, oh,. Um, perhaps not here, no. Temperance retreated back inside.

A birthday present? Jordan hadn't brought anything with him, and he wasn't entirely sure where he might find one. However, it was clear that until he brought back something, he wouldn't get anything else out of the man with the cigarette and the half-mask.
He tried the Scarlet Foyer first, looking around for anything that might count as a gift that he could take without upsetting someone. He tried not to look too furtive, hoping that it wasn't obvious that he was thinking of taking something. There was a tray of fruit beside the fountain. That would do, wouldn't it?
However, when he went to pick it up, he lost his grip on it, and the tray slid into the fountain with a splash. Embarrassed and giftless, he retreated.

[ Temperance Clark: 25/25 is utterly wat at burning man] Determined, she straightened her mask and turned approximately seventy-five degrees. (In retrospect, it would have been more ironic if it had been a full 180 degree turn, but Temperance didn't know this yet.) She eased open a door, spotting a book lying haphazardly on the floor. It would do, she supposed. Smoothing her skirt, she stepped forward - only to see the book go up in flames at the touch of an equally flaming man. She blinked once, twice, the smoke stinging her eyes. Oh.

[ Temperance Clark: 25/25 is wondering if stair wine is a good idea] This was more difficult than she'd thought it could be. A gift at a party - presumably without stealing from someone else - seemed easy enough, and yet. The low heels of her shoes clicked faintly as she walked, the floors of the room glistening with a preternatural shininess. They must have excellent maids here, she thought idly, trailing her fingers along a banister. That was something she missed about living back at her parents'. Her apartment hardly required a maid, and Temperance didn't accumulate too much in the way of trash, but the dust was awful. In her idle wonderings, she almost missed the two jewel-encrusted goblets sitting on the third-most step of the stairs. It was an odd place for sure, and surely that meant no one would miss them. They were clearly filled with wine; maybe Bennett would appreciate this for a gift. She glanced up and around, trying to see if anyone nearby could potentially be the owner of the glasses. No one was even looking at her. Good. She looked down again, and the cups were gone. "W-where...?" It was probably not worth the effort expended to try to find some spirited away cups, but she allowed herself a moment to huff sulkily, anyway.

Jordan went looking elsewhere for a gift. His search took him out to the gates of the ballroom, and he glanced upward, remembering the cats. There were still bits of dust on the pillars where the cats had been sitting, and a shudder ran down his spine. He decided bruptly that this was not the best place to be looking for a present.

He wasn't really all that opposed to scarves. Six months ago... maybe... he would have been happy to receive the one this tall kid brought him, if not for his own use then for Liv, but now? His other self had been covered in dazzling gaudiness, so many of them out there were, and the moment he set eyes on another piece of silky, beaded fabric was a moment too soon. Rabbit waved his hands like he was driving flies away from a corpse, his sleeves nearly slapping Nathaniel in the face.
He didn't see the kid for a while after that, but when he returned, the boy had cat dust on his clothes and smelled of Sir. He was carrying wine though, which was almost as good as whiskey. Okay, not really, but everyone around here really got off on their dopey grape juice, so it was as good as he would get for now. Rabbit pushed the bottom half of his mask away from his mouth and chugged half of one of the cups, turning a smile on the first of his visitors.
"Okay, so..."
Chris's approach could be heard before he was seen, the foxcat wiggling enough to make a distracting amount of noise. Rabbit smiled at his newest guest too.
"Beatrice!" He lowered his mask and reached out to take the animal, beckoning the two closer.
"Now that I've got this stuff I'll admit I don't know much. Sorry. But I do know that Adoelle Nashua? Doe? Y'know? She's one of the ones on the list to be killed tonight. A tithe. I mean, I am too, I think, but..." He tapped his mask rather obscurely. "She doesn't have one of these." He started to drink the rest of his first cup, encountered his mask again, and pushed it aside.
