Nadi glanced up from the tree, and couldn't even see anyone else in the gloom. Oops. Ah well, the Dryad figured there were enough other students out here that she was bound to run into someone at some point.
Or perhaps, one of the kids. That would be ideal, really. She stooped down again, checking the base of another tree, looking for a clue, or a child.

Nothing, nothing, nothing. The Dryad wandered further into the dark, trying to keep an eye out for likely places. Perhaps higher up, like Tomoe had suggested. Nadi put a hand to the tree, and glanced up. There was a likely branch, and she hauled herself upwards.
Nope, still nothing.

Nadi sighed, stooping at what felt like the hundredth tree. This wasn't really how she'd imagined her time Above being. But hey, it still wasn't Below.

She stood carefully on her branch, trying to see out into the gloom. Still nothing. She wavered a little on her feet, and grasped the branch more firmly.
"How silly am I. Up a tree and all alone..." She shook her head, and carefully sat down on the branch, and slid back to the ground. If she was going to be looking alone in the gloom, she needed to be safer.

Her feet touched the ground and she released the tree branch. Giving the tree another pat, she hoisted her flashlight and wandered out into the gloom.
"Is anyone out here?" Her voice quavered a little. This forest was a little spooky.

No answer. Not that she'd really been expecting anything else. Her wandering continued. She noticed the ground had a slight incline. Hmm, perhaps the kids were hiding at higher ground?

The incline was getting steeper, the Dryad's feet slipped on occasion. Nadi knew this was a recipe for a small scale disaster. Or a bigger one, out in the dark ... alone. She cast around with her flashlight, and let out a sigh of relief. Below a nearby tree there was a fallen limb, nice and long, and quite straight. The perfect walking stick.

New stick in hand, Nadi continued her upward hike. She noted the odd rock around, that had been absent from the area she;d been searching before. Surely, more hiding places were better.

Yet clearly, this kids weren't behind either of these rocks. Nadi's mind wandered. Imagine having an entire culture living in a dark place like this. She shivered a little. It was far too much like Below for her tastes.

The Dryad chewed on her lower lip, thinking about home. It was gorgeous there, by the lake, in the Village. And everyone she loved lived there. ... Not that she'd really had much in the way of friends. Nor had she ever had a boyfriend, or any such.

Despite that though, Nadi had loved her home. And her parent. She felt the lump in her throat growing again. They'd sent her away. They knew how she felt. She sighed, and poked a nearby rock with her stick. Nothing.

Nadi poked a nearby bush with her stick. Also nothing. The slope was getting even steeper, she hoped she was near the summit, it'd be challenging to navigate a much steeper incline that this.

There was a rocky lip ahead, quite steep. Nadi bent her knees, threw her stick over the top, and put her light in her mouth. She scrabbled up the lip, and lay on her back for a moment. ... This was not the trip she'd been expecting.

After a few moment of lying on the ground, and catching her breath, Nadi clambered to her feet. She picked up her trusty walking stick, and shone her light out into the dark. She'd come up quite a hill. Perhaps this would be a good vantage point.

She spent a few minutes, shining her light out into the dark over the lip of the hill. There were so many trees, so many places for little ones to hide.
