User ImageWith a soft sigh, Prague checked one last time for the night on Hamish. He was already fast asleep with his pets curled up beside him. Carefully tiptoeing back down the hall to her own room, she considered how much better her life had become since adopting Hamish. And he was getting to be so big now. Much to her own surprise, she realized how much she missed him being small enough to cuddle without him becoming embarrassed by it. Sighing again, Prague sat on her bed and brought her knees up to rest her chin upon. The truth was, she wanted another child or two. Hamish needed a little brother or sister to look up to him. And she knew that when she had to be away, despite his protestations to the contrary, he was lonely.

“So, what to do,” she murmured to herself. Adoption was always an option, but given how the other children had treated Hamish when he’d been there, she thought he might have trouble accepting a child that would remind him of his bullies. But if she imbued a bit of herself into a stone, now… There would be nothing to bring up bad memories. And if she emphasized that Hamish was now a big brother and reassured him that she loved him just as much as ever…

Yes, she thought, slowly uncurling herself. That would work well enough. But just to make sure, she’d talk to Hamish in the morning and get his input and thoughts. That would be better than surprising him and would go a long way to reassuring him.
