He had been having a lively week. Well lively by his standards and he was excited. It had been supremely hard to keep the secret from Lani, but he had succeeded. Desher was positive she was beginning to suspect something was up. He had been vanishing every chance he got to go work on his project. The male had been attempting to come up with feasible explanations why he was missing; by now they were getting fairly far-fetched.
Desher shouldered his way into the den. "Lani! Lani! Where are you?" His toes tingled with excitement. Today was the day. It was the big moment. All he had to do was find his mate!

The sleepy healer poked her head up and turned towards the sound of her mate. "Here." The words were groggy and not like the night colored female. She had been here and there doing a few things about the pride. Mostly touching up on herbs and working with Fionnan. Then there was the occasional lounging about the den after very long walks. She was trying to learn every little bit of the pride and it was actually a lot of fun. Though a lot of times she wondered where her mate was when she was around.
"Where have you been?" Giving a small yawn. He was very excited. She could feel the vibrations of his body.

He'd caught her napping from the sound of her voice. A grin crossed his maw. Now was the perfect time. Desher headed further into the cave to their sleeping cove. "Ah lovely, catching up on your beauty sleep?" He gave her an affectionate nuzzle as he came close.
"Oh out and about. Think you're up for one more walk?" His tone held a teasing note which he was sure would peak her interest no matter how tired she was. He was determined to find some way to get her there today.

"Of course my love." The cosmos colored female said as she got up from the place she was and nuzzled him back. She was very curious as to what they might be up to. He seemed very chipper and it was nice to feel the warm vibrations. Especially after everything that was going on about them. Learning the pride, gathering medicinal things. Taking on a new apprentice of sorts and a new possible familiar.
"I will follow you wherever want." She purred at the other.

Eagerly he nudged her shoulder to head her outside. He kept up a stream of pointless chatter of random things he saw. Birds, waves, sand, grass. Anything and everything he could do to distract her. He led her down the beach and around some rocks. In fact it took some time, that she might have thought he was leading her in circles. Maybe he was, just for fun.
Finally he pulled to a stop and fell silent. The sun shining on them, but something large and cool before them. "This is my gift to you." The tan and red male said softly. "A place for your herbs and medicines so that our cave can be safe for cubs."

The female wondered why such a strange demeanor with her mate. She just went along with it. Whatever he was planning she was sure she'd enjoy it. Feeling the sand between her paws a smile was brought to her face. Although it felt like they were just strolling about she was completely fine with it. Any time that she could spend with Desher was time well spent. Nowadays she always felt like her time was spent away from him. Back into the grind of actually having a job.
The sound that bounced around her ears told her whatever they had stopped in front of was that of another den. Oh shoot she should have been paying attention to where her paws were carrying her now. A soft chuckle fluttered from her, not because she thought this was funny but more that that was what she was focusing on.
"Oh Desher. Thank you." Her brow knotting a little as she pressed into him. "A place where I can work quietly." He little cubby or so it could be. "How long did it take you to find this wonderful den?" She wondered if it might stay a touch damp inside too, help keep some of the herbs she gathered. Not too damp of course, she didn't want to be wet but enough.

He wore a broad happy grin. Maybe not the initial reaction he'd hoped for, but she couldn't see it yet. Just wait until he got her inside. "A place where you and your apprentices won't have me underfoot." He chuckled as he knew that his big clumsy paws could crush delicate herbs. Many a time he'd tried to pass by and swept something drying onto the floor or stepped on herbs. Not anymore!
"Oh just some dedicated searching. I'm afraid it's a little far out from the main dens, but I had to find the perfect cave and none closer suited. Let me show you inside. I traded with another lion and had him help get it ready for you." Desher nudged her shoulder affectionately and walked in. "There's a nice open room to start, so your patients can come to you. Then it breaks into several smaller caves. I think you can put really sick patients over there, and your collection of herbs in that cave there. If you go to the wall you'll feel natural shelves." He stood impatiently for her to explore and tell him the cave was perfect.

Listening to her mate made her swell with pride. Oh how the male knew her, as he should being her mate. She listened to the cave, seeing it in a way that only she could. It was amazing. Huge, somewhat damp, but not overly so. Perfect places for patients who might need care. Wide open places to teach anyone who might want to come and learn from her and her healing ways. It was everything an ex-priestess could want. Everything a Mwani could now want.
"How much did you have to trade?" She asked curiously, the female somewhat wanted to know how Desher had even gotten it. Though maybe she shouldn't have asked her mate that. She could feel his impatience and nudged him. "This is better than perfect Desher. This is the gift of a lifetime. I don't think I could be more happy. I might melt here. The distance from our den is a bit but I'm not too old yet that I can't get over here. Besides, you can help me and Fio can help me get here."

Desher stood perfectly still as he watched Lani meet her new cave. He was even afraid to breath lest he bother her. Not that it would, but it was a special moment. He made a demurring noise and waved his paw, "not for you to worry about. The lion I got it from though would like to meet you. Think you'd be open for some company some time?" He'd never known his mate to turn someone away, but asking didn't hurt.
He gave a happy purr as she accepted his gift. "I know one thing that'll make you happier." The male said with a smirk. It was the whole reason for this after all. "I'd be happy to walk you through the paces as many times as you need. I'm sure once it becomes too far you can retire and gift it to your apprentice." Not that his mate was going to slow down at time soon.

As her mate said that she made a little noise to note that she would not ask again how he came about such a large den. Though the thought of meeting someone else would be very good. "Of course. Meeting new lions of the pride is always something I am up for. I can always make some time." That was true, she could always sneak away. She was getting good at being silent and sneaky. Or at least, she thought she was.
One thing that might make her happier. Cubs. It would make her elder heart beat a hundred times faster to have more little ones wandering about. Especially after that scare at the ocean. "Retire." The cosmic female scoffed at her mate, "I will die long before I retire from my chosen profession." Giving him a grin. "Thank you Desher. You are the most wonderful mate. I think maybe we should head back towards our home however. I much to prepare there for a journey to this new location."
Nudging him out to lead them back home. Count paces and know where she was going to come back to.

He blinked as Lani assumed the lion was of the pride. Oops. He'd forgotten to mention that it had been a rogue. Oh well, she'd find out soon enough. Desher stifled a chuckle as she caught on super quick. Oh she wanted cubs alright, and so did he.
The tawny male laughed along with her. "Hopefully you won't "retire" any time soon then." He gave a rumbling affectionate purr. Yes, it was time to go home. Walking comfortably side by side with his mate, the lion headed home. Home. It wasn't the deserts he'd grown up with, but it was still home.
