Mathilda sat on a chair near the door of the hotel. The door was partially open, and from her angle she could see a bird.
It was watching her.
Growling, Mathilda stood up and stalked toward the door. She was fed up with this bird mocking her and she was going to enjoy slowly killing it. Putting on her jacket, she slowly went outside, attempting to not alert the bird of her motives.

This enemy can be fought solo!
A lone bird spots you and glides in to attack. As you get close to it, you notice that while it's the size and rough shape of an eagle, it's not at all natural: its beak is made of bronze and its feathers are metallic and razor sharp. It attacks by launching feathers at you, or flinging its poisonous dung.
Hit points: 25 Damage: 5 each time attacked
If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:
1-80: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 81-90: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-99: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.
Misha had been studying her buckler with half-hearted attention when movement flickered just in the corner of her vision. She turned to see Mathilda slipping out the door and frowned. Twisting more, she spotted the bird on the other side. She fought the urge to laugh. Some of her fellow Chosen really took to fighting, she thought. She wasn't a fan but sometimes you had to do what you had to do.
As quietly as she could, she settled her shield on her arm and crept after Mathilda. Her booted foot crunching through the snow was just noise enough to alert the other woman to her presence.
Staring at the bird, Mathilda heard the crush of snow behind her. Keeping an eye on the bird, she turned and faced the newcomer. She didn't recognize the girl. The girl, however, carry an impressive shield. Raising an eyebrow, Mathilda spoke.
"Guten Tag. Mathilda Callahan. Are you here for the bird too?"
Pointing to the bird, Mathilda continued to switch between glaring at the bird and staring at the Chosen in front of her.

"Uh huh. I have a score to settle with these feather-brains." Misha grimaced, remembering the hits she took back near the fire hearth. Then she brightened with a smile. "And I'm Mishael Durand. Misha works just fine, though."
She considered the other woman and then focused back on the bird. "So how many of these things have you taken out already?" she asked. She felt safe in assuming that Mathilda had already pulled her weight in killing the blasted things. The other Chosen looked more than capable!
As the bird flew at Mathilda, Misha stepped forward and slammed her buckler against its side. The connection rang with the sound of metal against metal and Misha felt it jar up along her arm harshly. The bird shrieked. It lashed out with a wing to keep its balance and Misha caught a glancing blow against her cheek.
"Ouch!" she hissed. Her free hand came up to press against the scratch and she stepped back to stand beside Mathilda again.
"Maybe we got the runt of the litter?" Misha ducked the rebounding bird, taking another swat with a wing. The sharp feathers tore into her coat. She brought her buckler up again to drive an awkward punch at the dangling feet.
Misha watched the bird fall, wings flapping for an instant before the monstrosity went still and limp on the snow. Its dark blood trickled over the white. She wrinkled her nose. "Well... That was fun."
Lowering her shield, she looked at Mathilda curiously.
She kicked the bird for good measure before turning to Misha.
"Hi! Nice to meet you properly!"

"Dead Metal Birds sounds like a garage rock band." Misha chuckled. Then she slipped her shield from her arm and shook it out. Sending a smile at Mathilda, she continued, "And it's great to meet you, too. I've seen you around, of course, but we're kind of like chickens with our heads off lately."
She nodded back towards the hotel door. "Shall we?" Without waiting for an answer, she returned her buckler to its place on her arm and headed back inside.
