Before participating in this thread, please be sure to read this prompt. The Bunny Slope is shallow and easy to climb, and as such, it's going to be the simplest place to set up a speaker. The emergency power source is about halfway up the mountain, on one side, against the base of the tree. To help carry the speaker, roll 1d4; this number is how far you manage to carry it. Roleplay out the lifting, chatting to other people if they're travelling with you, and the exhaustion. After you roll, you're exhausted for 3 OOC hours or until two other people post and roll in this thread, taking the speaker partway up themselves. Once a total of 25 points is reached through rolls, the speaker is in place, and you can head back down the hill to the safety of the hotel. Remember, you can only participate in one of these threads at a time, and cannot leave the thread until the speaker has been put into place. Please make sure to put in bold red font, at the end of your post, what the current total is.

At this point, any idea of getting rid of the blasted birds was worth trying. In Marisol's opinion, there was no excitement in fighting the damn creatures. She just hoped this plan went better than Mulan's had--she really didn't want the birds popping up after they were buried.
The stereo was a big heavy mostly immovable object, she found, as she tried to push it. Arm strength was less of a factor than she'd thought as her feet continued to slid backwards and she found that leverage was impossible to get. Which meant she had no choice but to heft it into her arms, trying to balance and only managing to carry it a--she barely had it put down when she felt the tingle of muscles overexerted. And looking behind her... She wasn't even sure she'd moved it, to be honest.
Marisol moved away from the speaker and plopped down into the snow. With slow movements she began to stretch if only to keep her blood circulating. She wouldn't be able to attempt helping for awhile.

Brynn's plan sounded a little crazy, like something he might have come up with if he was trying to piss off a group of people who were strategizing seriously. That it was being proposed as a legitimate possibility made Zan happier than the Hephaestus Chosen might ever know, and he was eager to see it through once it was given the green light, even if it didn't work.
He hadn't meant to follow Marisol out of the hotel, but he found himself behind her when he looked up from his contemplation of the slope. He raised his hand in a brief wave, then took up the task of moving the speaker, getting it about as far as she had before shuffling a few feet away to rest. Instead of answering, since it seemed others had that covered, he simply shrugged.

The Bunny Slope seemed like something that could be dealt with quickly; Mal was eager enough to put his shoulder to this kind of thing because it was something that could maybe get done fairly fast. The faster it was done, the faster there would be fewer birds, and even if Mal was enjoying this madness, fewer damn birds would be appreciated.
The problem, really, was the speakers. Bulky, heavy, clunky things, Mal moved the one on the Bunny Slope and swore softly and steadily as he did, until he didn't have any breath left for it-- sooner than he was happy with in the cold, but once he felt himself start to ache (and not the aches from fighting messes of birds) he stopped, and set it down.
"Atlas." He didn't sit in the snow, but moved to the side and braced his hands on his knees, taking deep slow breaths, in through his nose and out through his mouth. His body was letting him know information. Once it was processed, he'd be okay. "Giant bracing the world on his shoulders? He was in one of the Percy Jackson books, Finn loved those."

The sight of someone with authority - well, Ernst wasn't sure how much authority Brynn had, but it sure was more than anyone else here. Everyone he'd spoken to seemed to have been recruited at around the same time he'd been. She at least had to have some experience. And her idea...well, he didn't know much about mythology, but he liked the structure of it. In fact, Ernst was fully behind this idea if only because it meant there'd be no fighting. But of course he'd chosen the easiest slope for himself. That speaker was surprisingly huge, and Ernst wasn't much of one for physical labor. But he did have a shield, and he was willing to wave it around, as much as this thing could be waved around. With any luck the birds didn't start attacking it first instead of him. He could barely see anything in the stupid light. If he knew where he was headed...hah. Well. This was better help than any. He headed in front of the speaker and started shoveling with his shield, an endeavor that took a lot of work, mostly because his shield was ******** huge, and didn't have a conveniently-placed handle for shoveling. It'd make a better sled, but he wasn't sure how well even it would fare with the speaker on top of it. Also, he liked the idea that he'd be able to pick it up again and use it should any birds see what he was doing. A woman's voice called out. " Like, a world map?" he said, puzzled. " Please don't say you mean Shrugged." The knowledge that anyone here - they were all chosen, right? They'd all responded to Brynn. The knowledge that anyone here was into Ayn Rand would probably kill him. Wait, was that - " Major Zan! Hey!" total: 4

While the plan seemed a strange one to Davor, he certainly hadn't come up with any better ideas, liable to have fought the metal birds for the rest of his days if that's what it had come down to. Fortunately, the rest of the Chosen mobilized quickly to get things underway and he was quick to join them, looking forward to the brisk, snowy hike like so many others he'd taken.
Well, maybe not so brisk. The speaker was heavy, even for a man used to carrying burdens and swinging around a war-hammer, but there were no complaints from him as he joined the group trying to both push and pull, anything to keep the damn thing moving upwards. Davor looked up only when he heard a voice speak up and another, far more familiar one answer, but ah. No, he didn't know the meaning of Atlas. Not wanting to embarrass himself and unable to add much to the conversation, he kept silently to himself as he worked to carry it up the slope with the rest of them.

"I thought it was the sky," Marisol's brows scrunched in thought but shook her head. It didn't matter. "Either way, he would certainly be able to lift a speaker." Or at least she thought so. Certainly better than she could, apparently, which was disappointing considering she was an athlete. "Definitely not on that last one," she turned to Ernst. "I never read it but I've heard enough things that I wouldn't even if there was a copy here right now." She might use to set on fire, if that would prove useful. That said, she pushed herself up and went back to the speaker. She pushed it and managed to gain some traction on the snow as it deigned to move forward much more than her last attempt, though it didn't feel far when she huffed, sinking to her knees. Maybe she should have lifted more weights... Total: 10/25

"Ernst! How're things?" Things were probably firmly centered around heavy lifting right about now, but maybe he had some other non-obvious news to impart.
Zan had hardly managed to catch his breath at all, but with so many people showing him up with this lifting thing all of a sudden, he couldn't just stand around. Picking up after Marisol again, he decided to push rather than lift this time, and though he made it about double the distance he had the first time, the speaker was still only halfway up the slope. He had thought this would be easy, considering this was the shallowest hill, but his vision of himself jogging all the way to their destination, speaker propped on his shoulder, was thoroughly shattered.Total: 12/25

Even with his beloved, scuffed and worn-down snow boots, Davor was finding it difficult to get traction enough to push the speaker a sizable distance. With how much the others around him were struggling, his main fear was seeing it begin to slip downwards and undo what progress they'd made already -- or, god forbid, crush someone. Mind reeling with everything wrong that could possibly happen, Davor put all his weight forward against the speaker, keeping an eye on its path.

Mathilda grimaced as she slowly trudged up the mountain, helping carry the speaker. Brynn's idea seemed valid, but the mountain climb she could do without. She only recognized Marisol, the other faces were new. Regulating her breathing, she slowed a bit. A little chill was worth getting rid of the stupid birds though.

Ernst didn't know what it referred to - it sounded like mythology, which he'd had a passing familiarity with before, but wasn't fond enough of now. He'd Googled the gods, of course, because he'd known he'd be working with them...but history? Nah. Maybe he should've learned, though, if Brynn was right about the Stymp-whatever thing. He shot Marisol a thumbs up but turned to Zan instead. " I'm not doing too shabby, all things considered." He'd been kind of dealing with the birds, mostly by hiding behind his shield and letting Davor hit them. He hadn't packed extra underwear, though, which really sucked. And of course the food situation...but it'd be over soon, right? " But if this works we'll be back in...Maine, right?" The optimism didn't seem like it belonged on his face, but the thing about Ernst was that his guiding philosophy was built on his own stupid optimism. They had to get through this. They would get through this. This was, of course, exhausting but at least they were making an appreciable amount of progress - he didn't want to think about one of the other slopes. How were the other groups doing? They were nearly to the peak. He went back to the job he'd assigned himself, which was shoveling snow from their path so that the group would in general have an easier time moving the speaker. It was maybe not exactly what he'd been sent here to do, but it looked like there were a lot of hands on that thing, anyway. 20/25

Setting aside the thought of a runaway speaker trundling back down the hill to flatten all in its path, Davor had to wonder about the birds they were doing this for. Where were they now, so eerily quiet? If he wasn't looking down, he was looking up, really anywhere but at the faces of the others, even as he listened to the occasional, surprisingly upbeat conversations bubbling up around him.

Mal stepped up to move the speaker along again with a huff once he'd caught his breath. "I hated that book. Atlas Shrugged. Really terrible." He always liked the sillier books; dumb romances, silly comedies-- that kind of thing.
Light reading. So much of his life was heavier things, lighter novels were way better.

As they neared the position that'd been marked out for them - or, well, as people in the group seemed to indicate that they were near - Ernst started to relax. Oh, he was still shoveling: make no mistake. But there was less of a path with a destination in sight, now, and more of just desire to get the speaker placed properly. That would be much easier than getting it up here. Although he hadn't really expected people to actually talk about Ayn Rand. Was this actually his fault? Oh, no. " Please," he called to the group, eyes widened and bottom lip extended in an exaggerated pout. " Please forget I ever brought it up. It's done. Lips sealed. Only speakers now." And with any luck, it wouldn't be blaring Atlas Shrugged when Brynn got her hands on it, or whatever. 26/25

There was just a little ways to go! Brian had hopped up the slope after the others but lagged behind a bit. Finally they were near the stop, so near! He jogged a little bit of a ways and pressed his back against the speaker, helping it the rest of the way to the top of the slope. His chest heaved.
Okay. On to the next, right?
