Before participating in this thread, please be sure to read this prompt. The intermediate trail is for skiiers comfortable with their skills only. It's fairly steep, but wide and smooth. The emergency power source is near the top of the trail, so it will take some time to get it up there. To help carry the speaker, roll 1d8; this number is how far you manage to carry it. Roleplay out the lifting, chatting to other people if they're travelling with you, and the exhaustion. After you roll, you're exhausted for 3 OOC hours or until two other people post and roll in this thread, taking the speaker partway up themselves. Once a total of 100 points is reached through rolls, the speaker is in place, and you can head back down the hill to the safety of the hotel. Remember, you can only participate in one of these threads at a time, and cannot leave the thread until the speaker has been put into place. Please make sure to put in bold red font, at the end of your post, what the current total is.

"Why do I do these things?" He heaved a breath out, down through his nose, and picked up the speaker. It was heavy and awkward and he was wishing that they could have used those tiny bluetooth speakers instead of these big old monstrosities.
While he understood the difference (and preferred the older, bigger speakers, especially for his own record collection), he couldn't not wonder if the bluetooth speakers could be made to work, too. Maybe it was a matter of a hundred percent chance versus a seventy percent chance.
Mal would take a hundred percent chance of getting rid of the birds, whatever Brynn had called them (the name niggled like that old fable), instead of seventy percent. He could imagine that a partial ridding of them might just make them angrier and more likely to be vicious.
He set the speaker down in the snow and moved away from it again to catch his breath, hands at the small of his back and leaning his shoulders backward, like he could crack his spine. "Agh. Stupid, stupid birds."

"Because we have to now," Brian half-joked as he helped the other man push the second speaker up the first stretch of the slope. He was pretty sure he'd never be able to go skiing again without remembering this whole event. He was sweating under his heavy jacket, and when they had pushed the speaker as far as their strength would let them, he huffed and plopped into the snow for a bit.
Phew. Thank the gods for physical training, again!

Rob was used to hauling his own musical gear around. Even when he was in the punk band back in London, they didn't employ roadies. Part of that was stubborn DIY pride, part of it was they couldn't afford to pay roadies to haul their gear. And as a busker on the streets of San Francisco, he still dragged around a small amp and speaker.
But this... This was like hauling around a Marshall dual stack and head by oneself. Uphill, both ways, in the snow, literally.
He grunted as he took over hefting the heavy speaker and amp up the wide snowy slope. "Bloody hell," he grumbled, getting the speaker a bit further before collapsing in the snow. "I feel like that bloke, wossname. Sisyphus. Pushin' a thing uphill for eternity."

"We need some new myths," was all Mal puffed, before he picked the speaker up himself. He settled the weight, cautiously, before he started back up the slope again.
"Besides. It could be worse. No birds eating our livers. Or is that the other one. Uh. Prometheus?" Mal ignored how breathless he sounded, and hoped that the others would ignore it, too. Stupid, stupid heavy speakers.
He carried it as far as he could and set it back down again into the snow, carefully. Probably it wouldn't be hurt by being dropped, but probably was not definitely. And Mal was definitely ready to be finished with these birds.

Brian chuckled, stepping in to take his turn pushing the speaker while they cycled through Chosen.
"Well that's the thing. Are they still 'myths' if the gods exist?" He shook his head. Everything he thought he knew had been shattered, so it was still a little hard to wrap his head around. He pushed as long as he could and then stepped aside again.
"It won't take forever. We already got one up the bunny slope. This is, uh..." He peered up the slope. "Moderately longer."

Rob stood to take his turn with the speaker. "Hmm, good point. Hard to know what's 'myth' and what's 'fact' now innit?" He managed to make the comment as he hefted the heavy speaker and amp up, hauling it as best he could further up the slope.
He finally set it down with a thud and plopped down in the snow flat on his back. "Bloody hell," he gasped again. "Moderately longer. Better than insanely long and steep, I suppose."

"And it could be less well shoveled. Or plowed." Mal nodded at the man, and picked the speaker up again.
"I kind of -- like the idea -- of thinking about -- Hercules complaining." He hauled the speaker along again, cradled against his body. He could feel himself getting tired of carrying it sooner each time. The damn thing was much too heavy.
He put it down again in the snow and stepped back to let someone else pick it up. "Although I'm glad we aren't dealing with flesh eating horses, I admit."

Jan was not a work kind of person yet somehow here he was, climbing up a bloody mountain with a speaker. Even as he went he couldn't help but bitterly think about how useful it would have been if he'd had an interest in ancient greek lore rather than christian lore. He just had to trust that people in general knew what they were doing.
Small, frail and light, he wasn't much good for long at all and it was in fact a bit of a mercy that he was able to move the speaker at all before giving up the second he felt like it was a bit too much of a hassle.
He was more suited to motivational speaking he reckoned, more of a manager than a worker.
"I'm sure it will get there in the end." he said. "Even if I'm not sure how it's all going to work without causing chaos."

"Well," said Rob, getting up and wiping snow from his butt, "it's like, sound waves cause vibrations, right? I guess Brynn figures a low-frequency sound at a loud enough volume will knock the birds out of the sky and cause an avalanche or something." He went over to the speaker and hoisted it up, then trudged as far through the snow as he could manage before letting the thing drop.
He collapsed in the snow, panting. "At least it looks like we're making some progress." He nodded in the direction they'd come, at the tracks in the snow. "Maybe halfway?"

Tara had been mostly quiet as she caught up with the Chosen already working on pushing the speaker up the slope. Seeing Rob hit the snow, she patted his shoulder a bit as she moved in to pick up the heavy speaker and carry it up a little ways. Wasn't long though till she had to set it down, but she got a little distance.
She'd heard most of what they were saying as she got into range, and the mention of the avalanches made her uneasy. "So before we do this, we'll be combing the lodge extra hard to make sure no one else is in there, right? And are we sure the avalanche won't hit the hotel where we are?"
If they had to lose the lodge to the avalanche to stop the birds... well, so be it. They could build another one if they really had to. But the idea of burying people in the snow... she shuddered.

"It's unlikely that'll bury the hotel completely," was what Mal said; a bit breathless as he picked up the speaker for his turn, and hauled it further up. He didn't get nearly as far this time, and it was a little disappointing for him.
"Even if it does, the height of the hotel means we'll be able to get out of it from the roof, if it comes to that kind of thing." He set the speaker down again and walked to the side to sit and breathe. "And as long as we make sure we have shovels, well. We can dig out."

After parting with Marisol and Davor, Ernst jogged up to the next trail without checking whether they were following. It took him a while despite his long legs, mostly because he wasn't exactly sure where he was going at first.
Then, right. There was a trail. In the snow. He hauled his shield up and beamed at the people already there. "Sorry I'm late," he said, although he was pretty sure he only recognized one of them, and only from sharing a dorm with the guy. He wasn't very sorry, though: he, Marisol, and Davor had pulled a speaker into position all on their lonesome. Well, mostly Marisol and Davor. Still.
It looked like this group was taking turns, and he wasn't quite sure what they were talking about from here. Being buried? Shovels? Well - whatever. He'd just jump in whenever the next person set it down, and...uh, he wasn't picking it up. His arms were already tired enough. Instead he just pulled it along, bending over and wrapping his arms around it awkwardly.
He got it along far enough, but had to stop again once he was out of breath. It was only then that he took the opportunity to mentally catch up on the conversation at hand. "I'm sure we can make do. I've been using my shield to shovel, personally." He beamed.

Tara didn't bat a lash to another Chosen joining them--though she was finding it fascinating how many she'd not yet met, even if she recognized a few faces. Mal's mention of using shovels, and the other guy's note of using his shield as one, made her hum and nod. "That's true--with all the stuff in the hotel, should be easy to improvise shovels if need be."
Eyeing the way the other guy had pulled at the speaker, Tara moved up behind the speaker and--for once, grateful of sorts of her small stature--shoved at it to push it up the slope. Wasn't a huge distance that she got, but she felt it was better on her body than trying to pick the damn thing up.
"So just... get these into position... make sure people are accounted for... and knock some birds out of the sky, huh?"

Rob recognized the newcomer -- Ernst, was it? He shared a dorm with him, after all, he should bloody well know the man's name. Not a bad sort at all. He grinned back and waved, then took over from Tara in hauling the speaker up the slope. Were they actually getting closer to the top? He couldn't tell. All he knew was it seemed to be getting harder and harder to shlep the speaker.
"Yeah, that sounds about right," he responded to Tara, panting. He then turned to Ernst and nodded at the man's shield. "Clever, that. Never would have thought to use a shield as a shovel." But then, as he'd noted, he knew nothing about shields, except that they, you know, shielded things.
