to be stalked (by a cat)
occurs immediately after isobels first bibliophile visit

As the young woman with soft pink hair left the bookstore, turning back once to wave enthusiastically, a nearby ear perked. Two eyes blinked lazily before a content yawn was followed by the cat in question un-loafing herself to stand up and stretch, from her whiskers all the way to the sideways v of her half-length tail.

You see, this cat had been watching the human as well as could be from her perch. Or rather, she'd surreptitiously followed the human for half a block before the girl had entered this store; though not, the cat noticed, before circling the entrance a couple of times and a copious amount of wringing her own hands.

Humans were odd creatures. Hitherto the tortie cat had found nothing particularly charming about them, from the slow oldies to the screaming youngsters - but this human...

----

Someone was following her, she was certain of it. The hair on the back of her neck had been standing up for a couple of streets, but every time Tibbie looked behind her there'd been no-one there. Well, that wasn't entirely true - the first time there'd been no-one there but a small black and red flash of movement, but the second time a family had been walking behind her. The third had yielded completely different pedestrians moving in her wake and frankly she was getting a bit confused here.

Was this the beginning of some horror movie? In the middle of the day? That seemed to be a bit of a silly time to be up to something nefarious, in her opinion, but then she sat heavily on the lawfully good side and was probably not the person to be asking in the first place.

Which really didn't help at all. The fourth time she turned around she did it with a bit of nervous flair, but the only one there was a startled bird who squawked indignantly and quickly took flight.

No... actually, that wasn't quite true - as Tibbie looked behind her, fists clenched, breath heaving in nervous gasps and eyes just a bit wild, she clearly saw something moving.

She made a strangled sound and took half a step back before her brain computed the fact that the movement had been so low to the ground that it couldn't have been made by a human following her. Unless they were literally crawling on their belly. She stopped, scrunched her eyes shut and took a deep breath - probably not the best action if she was actually being stalked by a villain, but nothing at all happened for the few seconds she took before being ready to face the world again. Slowly, she opened her eyes, blinked, and did a quick scan of her surrounding - absolutely nothing had changed. Just as she thought so, there was another flash of black and red movement, but even the quick, panicked jerk of her head wasn't fast enough to catch what it was.

And again, it definitely didn't look big enough to be human.

Right, this was getting too spooky for her liking. Hunching her shoulders and throwing a defiant glare at her surroundings, the young woman quickly strode off back to her home. She was having absolutely none of this creepy stuff, thank you very much.

to be observed (by a cat)

1/2 of drabble solo

There was a cat in the garden.

This was perhaps not as unusual as Tibbie felt it was; cats chilled in gardens all the time, right? Only... this one had been here for hours. It'd found what she presumed to be a nice spot under one of the bushes and had so far spent the entirety of its time this evening staring hard at the windows. At least whenever she'd checked which had, admittedly, been every five minutes or so - it just seemed so lonely out there, alright? She was slightly worried; it was getting late at night and surely the kitty should be at home, cuddled up on the couch by now or something?

Her mum had laughed at her, claiming her a bit silly but Isobel was one of nature's great worriers and the cat in the garden was bugging her.

It bugged her all through the night and up until dawn's light, at which point she was able to see the garden clearer again and-

-the cat was gone. Silently, in the privacy of her own mind, she was a tad disappointed. She'd hoped... what? That the cat had decided to move in? That was stupid; those sort of things didn't happen and even if they did, they wouldn't happen to her, she was sure.

The cat wasn't gone.

It'd just... been off somewhere, doing something. Getting water and food maybe?

This was what she'd realised on the way to the bakery for morning bread; specifically, what she'd realised when the cat had appeared and followed her all the way. It sat outside, waiting patiently while she shopped and the cashier joked about 'her well behaved cat' accompanying her for her morning walk.

It was... weird, to say the least. She made an attempt to approach the kitty after leaving the bakery, but it quickly moved away from her; she almost thought she'd accidentally scared it away for good until she caught the black and red glimpses of a small creature tailing her on the way home. Just like yesterday, it occurred to her - just how long had this kitty been following her?

It was a pretty cat, she thought; red and black splotched, with one white paw and a notched ear - the tail was kind of short and overall it seemed a bit thin, but she'd quickly deemed it one of the absolute cutest things she'd ever seen. It'd flicked its ear at her as she'd approached and waved its tail a couple of times as she approached, but it didn't seem scared, just.. avoidant, she thought. Although she really wasn't an expert on cats, so maybe it was scared and she was just misinterpreting things.

Speaking of experts... maybe she should ask Zac? He knew a lot about cats, more than anyone else she knew she'd bet; maybe he'd know what the cat was up to? Maybe it was sick and needed help but was too shy to approach and ask for it - she'd definitely need to do something, if that was the case.

Alright, if the cat was still there tomorrow she'd give him a call. Hopefully he wouldn't mind the interruption too much.
