Beth had never been one for crisis situations. Sure, there had been the occasional world-shattering tragedy, but those were always one on one--a broken-hearted girlfriend, a drunken mother, a raging father--something to focus on. She had hoped that this mission was something similar--a clear cut monster and time to endure before it retreated. But there was so much going on. So many injured, so many upset, so many threats wheeling around their precarious shelter. It was a lot to take in. Finally, however, she was pulled from her aimless inventory of things requiring her attention as she felt a tug at her sleeve. Beth turned to see an older woman, silver-haired and hunched, holding her puffy coat sleeve. "Please...please find my Nicolas. Tell him his Dotty is safe." She moaned a little in both pain and fear. Her forehead had been bandaged neatly, and Beth doubted that she should have been walking around as she was. "Can you...can you find him?" Beth found her throat closing up a little and she nodded, gently trying to pry the woman's thin, bone-like fingers from her elbow. "Yes, I'll find him," she mouthed more than said. -- After getting a description of Nicolas and a general last location, Beth managed to foist her onto another Chosen tending to the injured. She stood for a moment more, trying to realize what she had promised this little old lady. ' Go back out? In that ?' She smoothed her hair back from her face, a nervous habit that often frizzed her hair more than fixed it. She looked around at the people buzzing around, trying to figure out if she could rope someone into helping her mission of mercy. In the dim light, she saw the glint of an owl staring at her. Instinctively, she reached out to touch the Chosen of Athena, possibly grab her attention. "Hello!" She began, injecting her voice with cheer and certainty that she absolutely did not feel, once the Chosen had turned. "Would you care to help me rescue a Nicolas?" That was how normal people asked each other to risk life and limb, right? Besides, the girl had clearly survived other attacks, what with those bandages around her leg. "Judging from your accessories, I'd say you've already ventured out there!" Alethryia Hi! Sorry it took so long...and was a lot of intro. WC: 383, Total: 383

Yekaterin No problem! I think it was a lovely intro. Catherine had just returned from another venture outside, from taking on those metallic birds terrorizing everything and every one in sight. She had been overwhelmed from the start of this mission, even before walking through fire to get here. Then there was the crazed dash down the mountain, recouping with other Chosen and figuring out how they could best be of service to these poor people, doing her best to help reinforce and add to fortifications, and then taking out as many of these blasted birds as possible. She was amazed that she still had stamina, that the mark of the Chosen let her heal so quickly- the gauge beneath the bandages on her leg where a razor-sharp feather had lodged itself already knitting itself back together, a process that normally took weeks if not months to fully heal before this crazy life she’d accepted. She was drawn out of her daze with a touch, listening to the other Chosen with a bemused expression. “Hah, I’d say … I’ve been out there a couple times already, yes.” It was an odd request, but she couldn’t turn out someone in need- someone seeking to help a prospectively helpless person out there in the flurry of snow and metal wings. She extended her hand to the other woman, “I’m not sure who this Nicolas is, but I’d be happy to help. My name is Catherine, well might as well call me Cat.”Once introductions were complete they made their way out into the snow, confronted by the wheeling swarm of bronze birds overhead and Catherine covering them as they ventured out further with her bow. Alethryia Of course, I forget to roll for my run. redface At least you succeeded for us! And it'll be up to you to succeed again. gonk Beth brightened and beamed, happy to make her acquaintance--and told her as much as she shook the woman's hand and introduced herself as well. They managed to get through the cloud of birds, no doubt due to her new companion's agility and know how. As they trudged along, Beth related, "His wife, Dotty, is very concerned about him. She said he was wearing and orange jacket with blue plaid paneling and a red knit cap. So we should have no trouble spotting him!" She laughed a bit at her own joke before sobering. There were still birds everywhere and a lot of ground to cover. She almost wasn't sure they were doing anything more purposeful than wandering. WC: 118, Total: 501

Yekaterin Rolling, rolling, rolling. Oh my gosh, yusssss, all the successes! Cat looked out over the snow, noting Beth’s description of the missing man and firing off the occasional arrow to keep the birds at bay. There were footsteps everywhere from the traffic towards (and some brave trails away from) the hotel, add to that the flurry of snow that hardly seemed to let up, and they were left with less than desirable visibility. They continued further towards the wooded slopes and really were relying on sheer luck to find the missing man before they were picked off by birds or he froze. As they passed a thicket of overgrown shrubs Cat thought she could just make out a weak, “Hello?” She turned her head back towards the brush and called out louder, “Hello, is someone in there?” Her heart fluttered as the seconds ticked by… “Yes,” it sounded like the voice of an old man, “ please, can you help me?” Cat looked to Beth and nodded, even if this wasn’t Nicolas they couldn’t leave someone out here, “Yes, we’re coming in to get you, try to make your way towards us!” They broke through the dense foliage and caught a glimpse of orange coming their way- by some lucky twist of fate they had found Nicolas. Beth squealed happily, clapping her gloved hands together. She had yet to pull the whip from her pocket. While part of her felt bad that she was leaving everything to her fellow Chosen, she could not help but wonder at her incredible competence. "Well-spotted, Cat!" She struggled forward, saying, "Nicolas! Dotty's waiting for you!" She quickly bent under his arm to pull him to his feet. The man was shivering and leaned against her heavily, the arm not over Beth's shoulder clutching at his side. Beth barely managed a routine with those tiny 5 lb weights, but she found it within herself to stagger with the man back towards the hotel. Perhaps she was getting stronger. The braver birds made her nervous, but she had every faith that they would make it back to the hotel in one piece. Still, she tried to move as quickly as possible, always mindful of the strain her pace was putting on her companion, but also of the flock's murmurations above them. WC: 168, Total: 669

Yekaterin Keeping fingers so tightly crossed they're losing circulation!!! Cat smiled broadly, happy that they had found the weak survivor. She left Beth to supporting Nicolas as they turned back towards the woods, “I’ll keep covering us, just do your best to keep him up and moving.” They made their way more slowly back towards the hotel, Nicolas having had a lot taken out of him and no blessing from a god to rely upon. Cat kept her eyes on the sky and shot any birds who got too close, grazing or simply scaring off more than she actually took out though, and slowly but surely they returned to the relative safety of the barricaded hotel. Once Beth and Nicolas were through the doors, Cat slammed them shut and leaned her forehead against them. Her nerves were starting to get to her now that the adrenaline was wearing off and her hands shook, grasping her bow with white knuckled to make sure it didn’t fall to the floor. She smiled gently and said in a quivering voice, "We made it..."[WC: 171, Total: 651]
