Rose felt like she was being pulled in a hundred different directions, and though it made her feel offset, she was determined to be a grounding force in the chaos. There was a window blockade that needed to be repaired and she, still seeking to cull the proverbial numbers of the flock, volunteered to cover the workers. With an arrow knocked in place, she crept around the porch of the hotel and hunkered down by the open window. Taking a few steadying breaths, she carefully slid out from the safety of the roof -- and nearly came face to face with a sizable flock of birds. She let fly the arrow, though it mostly seemed to piss the avians off as it skimmed and missed entirely, feeling the angry bite of metallic claws against her arm. Chrystali Bows do 6 dmg as balanced weapons. Nevermind, I see now that you're using it as "agile"! Having helped to fortify the defenses at the hotel and already taking down one of these metallic monsters on her own, Catherine had felt confident volunteering to help cover the civilians repairing a blockaded window. She looked to the other blonde woman who had volunteered alongside her. Seeing her move forward and become assaulted by quick claws, Cat rushed forward with an arrow drawn and released it into the flock, just grazing one of the birds as another shot one of its razor sharp feathers towards her. [Result: 50%, 3 Dmg] [Small Swarm: 60-3 = 57 HP, 5 dmg/attack] [Catherine: 47-5= 42 HP, Recurve Bow, Ranged & Balanced, 6 Dmg & Initiative +15]

She had entirely missed the other woman's volunteering, so caught up in her own thoughts that she had truly thought she was going to face the vultures on her own. Rose knocked another arrow into place and let it fly, her lips curling upwards briefly in satisfaction as it sunk into a large wing, sending one of the metal birds floundering to the ground. "Rose, of Apollo," she called to the other, looking over to her briefly with a polite tilt of her head. Sure, it was battle, but she was Chosen because of who she was, and not being true to that would do them all a great disservice. "Glad to have you. I've had it up to here," she tapped beneath her own chin with the flat of her knuckles, "with these things." Rose's Stats Rose: 42 - 5 = 37 Swarm: 57 - 6 = 51 Weapon: Balanced Bow (6 base) Alethryia YOU'RE ACTUALLY RIGHT, I'm used to using the crossbow (agile), but it wasn't offered (oops), so I'ma edit that appropriately.

Before becoming Chosen, Cat never would have guessed she could have so much enthusiasm for battle. But with these things terrorizing innocent people, fighting was something she could get behind and put her experience with archery to good use.Cat chuckled at Rose’s gesture, “Catherine, of Athena. Agreed, let’s take these beasties out!” So saying, she released another arrow into the flock, this time hearing an oddly metallic thunk as it sunk into the chest of the bird that had just sent yet another razor-edged feather flying her way. “How do these things manage to stay in the air when they use their feathers as weapons?!”[Result: 100%, 4 Dmg] [Small Swarm: 55-6= 49 HP, 5 dmg/attack] [Catherine: 42-5= 37 HP, Recurve Bow, Ranged & Balanced, 6 Dmg & Initiative +15]

Despite herself, Rose laughed, the gesture making her arrow fly a bit to the side and piercing a bird's wing. "I almost wish we had baseball bats, I feel like it would be more satisfying." Another arrow was knocked into place, balancing her thumb over the feathered end. "And how do they fly when they're metal? You'd think they were too heavy and would clang like keys." She made a soft 'tch' sound, watching the birds circle angrily. Rose's Stats Rose: 37 - 5 = 32 Swarm: 49 - 3 = 46 Weapon: Balanced Bow (6 base)

Cat laughed in return, “It probably would!” She just missed her target this time, the bird diving out of the way and leaving the unfortunate bird beside it to get hit with the arrow instead. The diving bird lashed out with its metallic claws before soaring back up to reunite with its flock. She looked over to Rose while notching another arrow, “I know, they’re eerily quiet until they screech at you! Have you heard of The Stymphalian Birds before? I taught the Labors of Hercules to my students last year and I think these might be the same birds- or at least something like them.”[Result: 50%, 3 Dmg] [Small Swarm: 46-3= 43 HP, 5 dmg/attack] [Catherine: 37-5= 32 HP, Recurve Bow, Ranged & Balanced, 6 Dmg & Initiative +15]

"I can't say I know anything about birds other than what color they are." Arrow set and let fly -- picking off the one Cat had just hit. "But you're a teacher? What grade?" Rose glanced over to the other with an impressed look, knowing this maybe wasn't the right place for casual discussion, but where else was more fitting for the Chosen than on the battlefield surrounded by metal birds? " -- do you mean they're actually from Greek legends?" She yanked out another arrow, sliding to Cat's back, glancing up at the remaining few birds. Chrystali I really need to start getting some solid hits in... Cat was amused by the irony of having such a normal conversation in such abnormal circumstances, “Yeah, I teach sixth grade.” She eyed the raptors overhead and let loose another arrow, “We cover ancient civilizations for their history, so yeah … we just did Greek legends. Kind of ironic with all of this happening now.” One feather missed her with Rose covering her back, but another sliced through her pant leg before thunking into the ground beside her feet. “We didn’t go into great depth on each Labour, but yeah, man-eaters with bronze beaks and razor sharp feathers? Sounds like a fit. "And now look at you, living the legends." Another arrow was loosed, hitting another non-critical point in a wing. She really missed her crossbow, but she was doing the best she could with what was closest to it. The blonde looked up at the birds with her lips pressed tight, disquieted by the description. "Man-eaters on top of being obnoxious flying scrap heaps, how...delightful." Their counter attacks were really starting to hurt Rose, the fabric of her jacket fairly torn up. Glancing to the side, she exhaled slowly. "They're almost done with the window. If we can't knock these guys down a few pegs, we're going to have to retreat, Catherine." Cat barked out a harsh laugh, “Ah yes, lucky us … I guess I didn’t think the whole tendency for flesh-ripping monsters defeated by heroes aspect of a magic world through.” She nodded grimly at Rose’s suggestion, “Agreed, these monsters might not end up defeated, but they won’t be eating these two heroes today.” She perked up a little as her next shot struck true though, causing one of the birds to flounder in its flight. Rose made a faint sound as her shot again clipped the bird she aimed at, lips pursed thin. "Wouldn't it figure that the one weapon I trained with was one not included on this excursion? Apollo save me." The last part was said with a sort of sighed annoyance, knocking the next arrow. "We'll take down what we can," she agreed, blue eyes narrowed at the remaining birds in the flock. Chrystali Whoops, totally subtracted from a previous hp, thanks! Catherine shook her head with a shallow laugh, “Thank Athena I at least have some experience with a bow, otherwise I’d be practically useless in this crazy fight.” She nodded in agreement and loosed another arrow into the flock, this just glancing off a metallic wing. The hit itself wouldn't have done much damage if the bird hadn't already been injured by their previous hits and now it plumetted from the sky to crash on the earth below- one more, down for the count. She glanced once more towards those repairing the blockade, this fight didn’t seem to be in their favor and she yelped as her momentary distraction resulted in another feather slicing her arm on its way through her jacket. The soft sound of a chuckle that followed Cat's words were appreciative -- at least of the other woman's skill, which her own certainly was lacking. Rose would have offered some sort of quip to keep them going, but quite frankly, she was getting worn -- and hurt. The things that were mere annoyances before were becoming problematic, debilitating, even. If they didn't finish this soon, they might be the ones on the finished side... Chrystali Sounds good! With this roll of a 6 we can roll half damage for 4 turns and not die, or if you get a 6 or a 12 then we can afford a miss. Otherwise, we will probably have to run because it costs 10 HP. Catherine took aim at the bird Rose had just injured, and with a solid shot, there was one less bird to worry about. Now only one bird remained, but it appeared both women were starting to lose their strength. Soon enough they wouldn’t have the energy to retreat, even if they wanted to. One left. One left. She felt so weak -- even the act of lifting her arms became a trial. The bird swooped and hit her easily, her shot going wide and embedding into the hotel's side. Rose drew in a gasp and glanced towards the door. They were going to have to make a run for it after all.
