PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
In their hatchlings forms, they appear as translucent arthropods (their inner organs and veins visible) the size of a common housecat. At this stage, they’re very weak and without food will quickly die. However, upon consuming a sufficient amount of organic tissue, they form a chrysalis, emerging a few weeks later in a form identical to the life form it consumed. In their evolved form, they exhibit the same physical characteristics (albeit retained consumer qualities), as well as the same capacity for intelligence. Even as adults, they can take on newer forms, though the process of forming a chrysalis and assuming a new form will take days rather than weeks.
What remains consistent is their unquenchable hunger for living organisms. As a result of their capacity to travel across worlds, they did not adapt to simply produce less offspring, and a single devourer can produce up to a dozen hatchlings a month, undeterred by gender differences, as they’re asexual and genderless. No matter the form, eggs are produced, as the form temporarily adjusts in order allow this.
