Her eyes narrowed a bit as she eyed the--beginner--dummy a distance from where she stood. Tara held one of the training bows in her hand and a small bunch of the blunt arrows at her back. She'd tried her luck with the larger, greatbow but that uh. Nope not yet. Maybe if she kept working her upper body she could build up the muscles for that.

The blue tank top and black exercise pants were becoming a near constant outfit for her lately, spending probably more time in the gym than she was trying to figure out what exactly she'd be doing while at the Prytaneum. That whole conversation with Max had pretty much summed up with idk my bff jill for Tara. Yes there were a lot of resources there, but as to what she wanted to do with it all?

Sighing a bit and shaking her arms a little, she pulled out an arrow and notched it, pulling back the string and closing an eye. Mostly, her growing pet projects were just... train, and explore the forest. With her camera always in tow, of course. Those were two things she had a concept of, and she was learning she could quickly lose herself in for spans of time. Of course, she figured there was likely some answer in that, but until she could figure out roughly what sort of path she wanted to stake out...

Loosing the arrow, Tara could... already see how horrific this was going to go. "Oh... god damnit," she whined, shoulders slumping as she watched her first arrow... sail right on over the dummy's head. Like. Obscenely far over. Ok so. To be fair. Artemis totally didn't pick her because of her archery skills or something. And it was a lot easier to aim a camera than aim a bow and arrow.

Briiva let out a slow exhale, sweating palms gripping the barbell as she brought it back up to it's starting position. "annnd... set. Wheeew." Sitting up, Briiva buried her head into her towel and wiped away the thing layer of sweat that had formed during her regimen.

She was contemplating what type of food she should follow her workout with when a distinctive thwock sounded from the sparring rooms, followed by some choice words of distress. It was a sentiment that Briiva was certainly familiar with.

Throwing her towel around the back of her neck, Briiva decided to investigate. besides, she thought to herself, I need to start making friends or it's giong to be mighty lonely here.

It took her a minute or two of poking her head into the sparring rooms to find the source of the thwock. "Hello there!" Briiva was still halfway in the doorway, waving her hand enthusiastically.

Tara had been setting up another arrow, complete with grumbles and huffs, when she heard a voice call out near her. Pausing, she lowered the bow and relaxed the string before she turned towards the doorway. Eyes wide at being interrupted--not bad of course--it took her a moment to push a smile onto her face.

"Hi! Um. Sorry, I didn't disturb you or something did I?" Tara winced a little, biting the corner of her lip. She hadn't been loud, right? The girl didn't look annoyed though, and her smile--though sheepish--came back into place. She motioned to the dummy with her bow. "Did you want to train? There's enough room in here for another dummy if you want to grab one, or we can share."

She laughed a little, shrugging as she added, "It's just one of the non-responsive ones. Haven't psyched myself up enough yet to grab one of the ones that hit back." Assuming she even hit it... Her gaze flickered in disgruntlement at the arrow that had since landed on the other side of the room after it'd clattered to the ground.

Briiva paused and took a moment to fix her glasses, then looked over at the weapons rack gauging the bows on display. She walked over, running a hand over them with a brief smile crossing her lips. "Nah, you didn't disturb me. Just didn't realize there was anyone else here is all. These feel well made, even for training gear."

Picking up what felt to her as one of the more sturdy bows, Briiva tested the hew of the wood before stringing it. The act took more heft than she had initially prepared for, and she had to grunt through getting the loop of the string notched correctly. A quick tug to make sure the string wasn't going to fly off and Briiva bound back over to the new face.

"I'm Briiva, by the way. Pleasure to meet you! So, um, don't judge me or anything. Before coming here, I had never even touched one of these things, much less used one." She held her hand out, grinning ear to ear.

She grinned to see her new... partner of sorts, grabbing and stringing another bow. "I try to come here a lot, definitely need the practice," Tara laughed, nodding a little to the other's observation on the quality. "I thought they were good, but no real experience to tell either way. It's a good sign though, right? Means they're serious here about training us."

It was kinda fun to have another person there, and Tara shrugged off the quiver she'd taken to drop it between them, making it easy for them both to grab arrows. No reason to be stingy with people you were supposed to be working with!

The offered hand was taken quickly, laughing at the addition. "Tara, nice to meet you, Briiva." She motioned to the downed arrow on the other side of the room, beyond the dummy. "That was my last shot. So, y'know, just do better than me and you're fine."

Getting her arrow back into place, she pulled back the string and tried to focus on the dummy. She thought she was aiming properly. But her hands shook a little, and when she loosed the arrow... it zipped right on past the dummy's left side, and clattered against the far wall. She groaned. "The most I've shot with before now was a camera, and I've never had this much issue with that."

Briiva's eyes light up at the mention of a camera. "Are you a photographer?! I've always wanted to take it up more seriously, but the most I use a camera for is recording my projects." Her expression fell as she spoke. "A lot them tend to fail and explode quite remarkably, so I go through cameras too often to get a nice one." She stood a moment, lost in thought before seeming to jump up again. "Anyway! guess it's my turn now!"

Leaning down to pluck an arrow from the quiver Tera had placed between them, Briiva stood straight, her head jerking reflexively to the right in order to fling her hair away from her eyes. She notched the arrow to the string and assumed the proper stance as best as she could recall. Pulling back on the longbow took only slightly less effort than stringing the thing in the first place. Briiva exhaled slowly, treating the weapon as she did the barbell just minutes ago. As she closed her non-dominant eye, she struggled to keep her aim steady in order to line up the shot. Damn, holding this is intense, Briiva thought. Why couldn't there be any compound bows lying around? I bet it's much easier to keep the damn thing steady compared to this.

Briiva waited as long as she could, but the more she waited, the more her fingers found it harder to grip the string. If she didn't release soon, her body would make the decision for her. Gritting her teeth, she adjusted her stance. It's now or never, I guess. She let the arrow fly, and was rewarded with a hearty thwock as the projectile found it's mark in the shoulder of the dummy. She was surprised as how satisfying it felt.

Wiping the sweat from her brow as she tried to catch her breath, Briiva couldn't help but grin a little. "I have a new found respect for anyone who seriously uses these things. I could incorporate this bow into my workouts." She pulled out another arrow and held it out to Tera. "Try again! I'm sure you'll get the hang of it pretty soon!"

Tara grinned towards Briiva, eyes wide. Always, always happy to talk to people about photography. "Wildlife photographer," she clarified, immensely curious about what the other girl was saying.

Explosions?

"What sort of projects do you work on?" Her interest was genuine--as was her slight look of envy to see how Briiva managed to hit the dummy. She let out a whoop in cheer, clapping. "Awesome job! And yeah it really takes it out of you, huh?"

Squaring her shoulders, she notched another arrow, pulling back and taking aim for the dummy. Her arms shook a bit, and Tara held her breath, trying to steady herself. Her muscles weren't appreciating the pull, but they'd just have to deal with it. Once she felt secure in her aim, she loosed the arrow... and gleed, jumping up and down a few times, when the arrow hit with a solid thunk into the dummy's stomach. "Got it!"

"Nice!" Briiva beamed at Tara, offering her open palm for a high five before readying another arrow. "I'm -was- studying to be a propulsion engineer. I guess I still will be here, but it's still ind of weird getting used to a brand new campus."

Taking aim, Briiva held her breath and loosed her arrow, only to find that her aim had been too low. It arced beautifully- into the ground just short of the dummy. "...Damn."

Taking a moment to stretch out her arm, Briiva pulled it in a slow circle, turning her attention back to Tara. "Wildlife photography sounds like a lot of fun! Have you gotten any good shots?"

Tara slapped her palm against Briiva's, grinning. Felt good to see improvement in her archery, that was for sure. She stood back a little, listening to the other girl, and giving a sound of awe to hear her field of study. "You should definitely continue with your studies here. That sounds like such a cool thing to learn! What do you like the most about it?"

Of course, she went quiet when Briiva was taking aim, not wanting to break her concentration. Wincing, of course, when she saw the arrow fall short. "No worries! Practice makes perfect, as they say."

The question about her shots made Tara grin. "A few. My favorite to date was a fawn nursing from its mother in a little clearing. So cute. But after that... hm. I think my favorites are mostly of kids interacting with animals at zoos, and exhibits where they can interact more with the animals. Not the most glamorous shots, but I always have such a grin on my face when I see them." Kinda like the one she had on now.

"I've been starting to go into the woods around the campus to snap photos--y'know, it'd be awesome to have company if you ever want to come! I've got an extra digital camera, if you'd be interested?"

She didn't see the harm in offering. After all, it wasn't like the girl could go far if Tara's trust was misplaced. Taking aim again, she exhaled to steady herself, and let the arrow fly. To her joy, it struck the dummy in the chest, and she laughed. "Jeeze this hurts after a bit, but it's kinda fun."

"Heck yeah! That would be amazing!" Briiva grinned ear-to-ear, pulling out another arrow and pulling her bow taught and taking aim. Closing her non-dominant eye, she took aim and held her breath. Briiva almost jumped when she heard the arrow hit the target. "Alright! You're not kidding, I'm going to be so sore in the morning."

Briiva laid back against the wall, laying the bow down to be able to massage her shoulder. "It's kind of hard to narrow what I like about my studies to anything in particular." Briiva shrugged, looking up at the ceiling. "I just know that we as a species aren't going to be getting far with our current technologies. I want to be able to invent something that will allow us to actually travel to other solar systems, you know?"

She laughed a little before pressing the back of her head against the wall she was supporting herself on. "Haven't gotten anywhere of course, but I'm thinking that maybe, this is where I need to be."
