Tom sighed as he shot at the practice dummy again. He was getting the hang of crossbows and arrows, but didn't feel quite ready to where he could go up confidently against a monster of any size. And so here he was, practicing by himself, though he had a sparring partner that was supposed to be there at any time. There had been a set of signups and he had only just entered himself, taking so long because of the laboratory distractions. He had blunt-tipped arrows with him, though he knew he would need to figure out what other weapons to use, going more for agility than the other two weight weapon options. Throwing knives seemed to be a good option if he couldn't use a bow and arrow, but so far he was only planning to practice with the bow. Alethryia I apologize for the terrible opening XD

SSBrosB Looks good to me, roll for initiative next?] Cat walked towards the sparring rooms with bow in hand, she was nervous about facing off against another person for the first time with her bow. The previous training sessions she had participated in were against the dummies they had here that actually fought back- which was a strange experience in and of itself. She felt confident when using a recurve bow, it was something she was familiar with and had experience using, albeit not in 1-on-1 combat. Cat picked up a quiver of the blunt training arrows and looked around the room, seeing a man practicing there and venturing a guess that this might be the “Thomas” she had jotted her name next to on the sign-up sheet. She walked towards him with a wave, after he had finished firing of course, and introduced herself, “Hi there, I'm Catherine. You wouldn't happen to be Thomas would you?”

Tom cringed a bit as he heard his full first name, and accidentally missed the last shot. He sighed a little at the miss, though it wasn’t like he had been a perfect shot all of the time. He turned to where the voice addressed him and found another archer there. Well this will be interesting then. He thought as he smiled a bit at her. “Yes I am and please, call me Tom. It’s nice to meet you Catherine.” He replied, extending a hand in greeting. “Glad I’ll finally be able to practice with someone, though I can’t say I’ll be the best sparring partner.” He didn’t have any training in combat before all of this, so this was quite new. But he at least had training in how to manage a stressful situation, so he figured he could do all right during a battle.

She accepted his offered hand with a hearty shake, “Oh sorry! I go by Cat too.” She nodded her head with a grin, “Can’t say I’ll be the best either, this will be my first time against an actual person.” It was true that she had practice with a bow, but it was quite different facing off against a still target for points and going against an opponent who could fight back. She’d found this out the hard way against her first training dummy, but had still managed to come out on top, and no the worst for wear. She motioned towards the sparring room adjacent to them, “Shall we?”

“Well then, we won’t be embarrassing ourselves fighting against each other since we’re so new at this.” He replied, chuckling a bit. He had gone up against some of the dummies himself, but had focused more on learning how to properly aim and hit targets more. He was getting the hang of it, but sometimes he did managed to smack himself with the bow. He nodded to her. “Sure, you go ahead first.”

This sparring room was more than just four walls and an empty floor. Maybe because it was intended for ranged combat, or perhaps simply it was designed to provide a more varied and realistic environment for training. Regardless, the room had a mixture of columns and ramps ending in raised platforms to give opponents something to do besides simply standing at opposite ends of a long room and shoot at each other. So Cat waited until they were both in a favorable position and Tom’s que to go first, hoping to make her first shot count with a solid hit. [Result: 100%, 6 Dmg] [Catherine: 47 HP, Recurve Bow, Ranged & Balanced, 6 Dmg & Initiative +15]

The shot hit him squarely, causing a bit of a bruise. They may have been blunted arrows to spar with but that didn’t mean they couldn’t be dangerous. Hopefully out in the field they would be wearing some type of armor or have some type of protection that would protect them. Of course investing in some goggles might be a good idea too. He took aim back at her, trying to quickly get his target in place and be able to shoot as accurately as possible. Though perhaps he pushed himself too far, it took time to become good at any weapon. [Result: 3 Dmg] [Tom: 47 – 6 = 41 HP, Recurve Bow]

The arrow grazed her arm as she bolted for cover behind one of the pillars. Shooting while moving wasn’t something she had gotten a lot of practice with, so now was the perfect time to try some new techniques. She leaned out from behind the pillar with her next arrow notched at resting position, spotting Tom and drawing back to shoot quickly before moving on to a new bit of cover. [Result: 100%, 6 Dmg] [Catherine: 47-3= 44 HP, Recurve Bow, Ranged & Balanced, 6 Dmg & Initiative +15]
