Dahl knew he wasn't the greatest swimmer. Growing up as he had did not present many opportunities to practice more than a dog paddle. And, even then, he was s**t at the dog paddle. It would have easier, perhaps, to hire a swim instructor or even head to the pool at his normal gym, but... pride. Here Dahl was, a grown, successful young man, and he barely knew how to swim. It was this thought that had sent him into the waves this morning. Not the pool near the dorms - too many people. The lake, however, was relatively nice and quiet. No one could see him flounder there. He'd been in the water some time now, treading it quietly, watching as the tide rocked her a little further from the shore. Clumsily, he tried to head back, gasping as his head ducked under water again. This was harder than it looked.

Mathilda strolled along the beach, sunglasses perched over her eyes. In a bikini top and shorts, she really didn't have a destination in mind, just wondering. A bit of a way down, she heard a series of splashes. 'What?' Getting closer, she noticed that instead of an animal like she thought, it was a person. "You can't be serious!" Throwing her glasses onto the sand, she ran into the water, diving for the body struggling in the waves.

Something large was splashing in the water near him and he whirled (as much as one could whirl, given the watery locale) and only succeeded in going under again. "Who's-" A gulp of water produced a choking noise followed by a cough. "-there?" Dahl hoped it was a who and not a what. No, scratch that, he hoped it was neither.

Mathilda groaned as the body went under again. Why was someone this far out? Surfacing for air, then diving under again, Mathilda grabbed for the body, coming in contact with the persons chest. She quickly swam to the surface. "Calm down, you idiot! Stop flailing, or I will let you go!"

When Dahl realized it was a person, he stopped struggling and instead became a dead weight. The water, at least, served to obscure his shame for a while. After a moment, though... "I can swim!" he insisted. pushing against what he assumed was his 'rescuer's' arm. His leg still ached, but this was awful. Just terrible.

Mathilda huffed as the person in her arms became dead weight, then struggled again. "Listen! I'm going to swim us to shore! Stop flailing, and kick! I'll guide us!" Mathilda was almost tempted to leave him here, almost.

' If I could kick properly, do you think I'd be in this situation?' was what he wanted to say. "I'm fine," was all he blubbered out between the splashes of water assaulting his face. Maybe he could run as soon as they reached the shore. He kicked half-heartedly. Had a shore ever seemed farther away?

Mathilda huffed as she slowly started to make her way to the shore. It was taking longer than she would have liked, with the flailing body she was dragging, but she was making progress. As she looked toward their destination, she rolled her eyes at the man's comment. They were so having words when they reached the shore. And by the looks of it, that was happening sooner rather than later. Good.
