Spirituality was not Tacrith's strong suit. He believed in what he could see with his senses. What he could see.. What he could touch... The spirits of the dead had never been at the forefront of his mind. Being of the Yeali, he heard plenty about spirits and ghosts and one form or another of afterlife. As a child, he'd ignored the tales for the facts in his studies.

Now, though... Well, he still wasn't an avid believer of spirits. However... when one's family was now in the afterlife, one couldn't help feeling the draw to believe.

Tacrith had taken his day off to walk to the sanctum. Thankfully, Pajore housed a fine sanctum within relative walking distance to his home. By the time he got there, Tac was a bit winded but no worse for the wear. Thank goodness for the extra cushion he'd added to his cane handle for the trip...

When he reached the sanctum, he hesitated. He felt a little silly to be thinking about going in. He was a medical man and held facts dear. ..What was he doing making this trip?

She was feeling tired after the day she had had out in the small settlement on the outer ring of Pajore. Fallon had her arm looped through the handle of her basket, that was now empty, so that she could hold it easier as her other hand was up gently rubbing at her shoulder. It didn't matter how many times or even how long she sat with her head bowed, it always seemed to bother her right shoulder. Heaving a small sigh she pushed it from her mind and started to cleanse her thoughts of the worries of the world.

While it wasn't needed it was something she felt kept her more open to the God and Goddess. Fallon never entered the Sanctum before her mind was clear and she felt lighter.

Before she could get her cleansing thoughts truly underway she noticed that there was a young man with a cane looking at the Sanctum. "Hello." She called out the simply greeting so that he would know that he was not alone. Fallon wasn't sure if she would be much of a conversationalist but perhaps it would ease this man's mind a little if he were to simply see someone from within.

Tac wasn't sure how long he'd been standing there, but it was enough to start bothering his leg. He was just considering turning around to find a tavern instead when he heard the greeting. He looked over, hesitating a moment before nodding in return. "Hello."

Not much of a conversationalist himself, he stared at the sanctum for a moment before deciding it was worth the risk to reveal his lack of knowledge. "Do you know.. does praying still work if you're not in there?"

His question about prayer made her regard him for a bit. Most, if not all, of the Yaeli people believed in prayers. Fallon had to wonder what it was that had made this man have doubts. And farther still, what had brought him back.

As she thought this over she took in his appearance. He seemed fairly typical, all except the cane. She figured that he must have a reason for it. It was obvious to tell that it wasn't simply a walking sick because she noticed the padding on the handle. That alone meant that he was putting some weight on it. Bringing her eyes back up to his face she gave a small nod of her head. "The God and Goddess hear the prayers of all their children regardless of where they are." Fallon's words seemed practiced, as though she had been taught to say them or had repeated such a phrase many times over, but her tone was soft.

With nothing else to do, Tac took in the woman's appearance while she did the same with him. She was pretty, but... he couldn't tell what she might be like by looking at her. Another skill he lacked.

The words spoken gave him a thoroughly unexpected wave of comfort. Lips pressing, he looked at the building again. He didn't need to go in... but why come all this way and not? "You sound pretty sure of yourself," he observed without looking away from the sanctum. Spoken as though she had said those words more than once before.

Brow knitting, he shifted his gaze away. "Why would they listen to someone who has ignored them for so long?" he asked, more talking to himself than the woman. Old lessons were creeping back from the shadows of his mind, tugging at his gut. That was all it was... Just memories of days long passed. Blinking, he quickly looked over to the woman and smiled. "My apologies. I don't wish to be a bother. Thank you for taking a moment for me."

Fallon again fell silent as she watched what the man did. He seemed to be more interested in the Sanctum. Was he afraid to enter? Despite him not looking at her when he said that she was sure of herself she nodded her head. Of course she was. This is what she was taught growing up. Then he asked why those they worshiped would listen to someone who had strayed from them.

Tilting her head ever so slightly to the left she stared into the face of the man. Her silence was not her answer but he seemed to speak yet again, excusing his words as being a bother.

Fallon stepped forward and held her hand out for him. "It is no bother to help a child of the gods find their way back." The young priestess in training smiled at him. As she waited for him to make the decision of whether or not to take her hand she gave a small motion toward his leg. "Come inside and rest your leg for a while at least." The man must have walked some distance, as most did.

Looking at the extended hand, Tac couldn't help blinking with surprise. Find their way back... Was that what he was doing? Finding his way back? ..Back to what? What would praying to some unseen figureheads do for him now?

He opened his mouth to object. He should just go to a tavern, get a drink, rest, and head on home. However, his voice hesitated for a second. Damned leg... "Just for a while," he agreed, though he waved off her hand. "It'll be better to not risk knocking you over. ..Do you work here, then?"

She didn't want to press him so she returned her hand to her side and nodded. Fallon would let this man walk on his own, unless she saw that he was having more difficulty. As he asked if she worked here she smiled. "Yes and no. I live here." It was easy enough for her to keep pace with him and it actually was a better change from the quick pace she had been keeping up til then.

The young woman seemed to settle into an easy silence as she looked forward at the gate to the Sanctum. It was home. It was work. It was her life. She prayed to the gods every morning, afternoon if she was able, and night. Fallon also happened to be one of the few that remained neutral in her worship.

Live here? Tac gave the woman another once-over. She was a priestess then? Well, that would explain the confidence in her statements. Thankfully, she didn't seem to be a chatterbox eager to get him to see things her way... Entering the Sanctum was an uncomfortable experience. It had been years since he'd stepped foot in it...

While he was reluctant to relax, he did need to rest his leg if he were to make it back home that evening. Finding a chair to sit down on, he sighed and gave the woman a nod. "Thank you for your assistance. How should I address you?"

There was a moment when she saw that he seemed to be uncomfortable. Fallon wasn't sure why he would feel that way but she said nothing about it. Once he was seated she moved so that she could stand just in front of him, though not too close. It wouldn't do to have him think that she was invading his space. As he asked what he was supposed to address her by there was a small shake of her head before she spoke, "You may call me Fallon." Just her name. No title or anything like that.

Moving her eyes to his leg she pondered a few ideas, though she wouldn't know which would work best if she didn't know what was the real problem. "May I ask what happened?" Again she motioned toward his limb though her tone was still gentle.

"Fallon." Nodding, he waited for the woman to move on.. but she didn't. He was fairly certain he knew what would be coming next, if not soon. It always came up at some point with new people. While he'd gotten used to the various questions, he still wasn't fond of them.

Somehow, Fallon managed to ask it in a way that didn't make him feel like some freak of nature, or a specimen under observation. Must be the priestess training... "It broke a long time ago, and damage was done that couldn't be repaired." Giving the leg a tap with his cane, he gave an idle shrug. "Just makes walking a little more annoying than it should be. Please don't concern yourself. It'll be fine after a bit of rest."

"Mm." Her head gave a small bob as he repeated her name, sort of like an affirmation. When she heard about his leg and knew the reason behind his gait she took a half step closer and bent down so that she could place her basket on the ground as well as kneel in front of him. Fallon looked into his eyes for a moment then gestured to the leg that he'd tapped with his cane. "May I have a look? Perhaps I can ease some of the unpleasantness before you go."

Already she was trying to figure out which local herb she could use to help out. Anything that was beyond Pajore outskirts would take too long to collect and would require him to come again or for her to visit him. Unless it was already in stock. "I help one of the priestesses with herbs." She tried to explain.

Tac's brow knit slightly, cheeks warming. It'd been a while since he'd done anything outside of his normal treatments for his leg. "I really don't wish you to concern yourself," he murmured, self-conscious of the extra attention now on him. "I've dealt with this for some time now. A few minutes of rest will take care of it." He held up his hand. "Please, go on with your day."

"Helping people is part of my day." She pointed out. Though Fallon was thankful to him for being so concerned and.. humble. It appeared that he had not come to the sanctum for his injury. So then, what had? She would just have to wait for him to reveal that bit.

Remaining where she sat in front of him the young woman let her hands rest in her lap. Since Fallon had not been given permission to examine the leg she did not intrude, though she had to admit she was worried. For anyone to leave the sanctum in pain, to her, felt like a failure. With the sounds of others in the background and of course that of nature Fallon let her eyes drift shut so that she could listen. Her attention was still upon this visitor, however, and she turned her head to the side slightly so that her ear would be directed toward him in case he should need to speak.

Tac hesitated a moment, watching Fallon. She was determined to sit there then. Well, if she was a priestess, he understood her concern. He wondered if it was mandatory... Once the woman's eyes shut, Tac took the time to do the same.

Now, as to why he had come in the first place... He let his breath out slowly. His parents.. his brother.. All were gone. Could the sanctum really provide some sort of connection? Some sort of.. closure? Well, there would be no such thing, but something to settle his mind a little.

However.. thinking on his lost family after so long only made his chest hurt.

Gritting his teeth, he blinked his eyes open. There would be no peace in seeking the past. There was no comfort in a faith he had given up. "My apologies if I've kept you from any duties, Fallon," he said suddenly, pushing himself up to stand. He winced at the twinge in his leg, and attempted to sit back down casually. If he could sit for just another few minutes... "If I may impose upon you further, what is it that brought you here? Is this the only life you've known?"
