Ren screeched as it circled down from the endless blue sky. The wound on its foot had long healed over, leaving a scarred patch of skin with the beginnings of fur already sprouting up on the scar. The paroo spotted its companion and let out a delighted chirp, a custom sound tailored to Feng. The cub often entertained the idea of the familiar using that call the same way he used the creature's name to address him.
Pausing in his walk, the cub lifted his head to watch the shadow of his familiar as it moved across the endless blue. Paroo had many talents, as he found. For one- they could repeat spoken words. While they couldn't be directed in any meaningful fashion, now and then they over-head something useful. He was still in the process of teaching his companion how to seek out specific B'alam based on name or signal to deliver a message but thus far, the paroo only identified himself and Volga- and a lot of good that did. Still, it could come in useful if the talent could be expanded upon. Secondly- Paroo were natural scavengers. Often times Ren would return with a sprig of berries in its pouch or found objects tucked into the skin pouch of its belly.
Feng raised his horns and braced himself. The paroo landed, planting its paws in the fork of the two horns and settled its wings. Obediently, it walked down to his companion's back and settled itself there.
"Well, did we hear anything interesting today?" Feng asked, his tone more playful than serious. Of course the Paroo wouldn't understand him but the familiar was fascinated by the sound of speaking. It turned its head and clicked its beak.
"All the way." The paroo chirped, not comprehending its words. "Climb all the way."
"Is that so?" Feng chuckled and continued on his way. Food was scarce in the Obsidian coast and the glare of the sun posed a threat from above and below. It was a difficult place to live but it was the only place he knew. His paws had burned so badly the first few days of his waking, cut and scraped to oblivion on the sharp, unpredictable edges of the ebony stone. Even now he had a few cuts up and down his paws and an uncomfortable burn on the back pad of his hind leg but he was able to get by. In time, he was promised, the cuts would scar and the burns would thicken his pads. The unpredictable landscape was both an enemy and a friend.
He slowed, throwing a look over his shoulder to ensure that his mentor was well on his way. Thus far, he was unaware of the dangers just on the other side of the mountain. He didn't know why he was training- only that he was training. He didn't know his purpose- only that it would be revealed to him in time. At present his world was concentrated in what seemed like small, unrelated trials promised to hone on skills he would need in the near future.

A shaky breath left Xian as careful foot steps lead her farther and farther away from the fire tribe. Taking in a slow breath, the Nahtil stilled her thought and settled her heart's protest. She wasn't too far from where she was first woven, and where she first met....
There was a subtle shift of the white and ebony fan that the tactician had kept so endearingly near. Golden graceful eye spotted two dots off in the distance. A smaller one and a larger one, traveling across the rocky and uneven obsidian flats. Dark ears perked as the new sight helped distract her longing thoughts. The two dots, had to be Volga and the other that was spoken about. Though the figure was so small, it had to have been a cub.
Xian's Pristine fan shifted in a slight wave, as it was head up by careful thoughts just at her chest and below maw. A curious concern came to her mind as she watched the two figures draw closer. If it wasn't Volga and this 'new plan', she had to come up with a reason she was where she was. Or with luck perhaps, not at all-working to hard to try and protect something was a give away in it's self.. Either way, in times like these it was becoming rather important to always have a plan for every circumstance. Especially if it was a watch that was seeking their commander.
For now, elegant steps move her with ease across the rocky terrain. Fire paws had been long tempered and used in her travels. To think she had just only returned to the Fire Tribe, to quickly leave, with Barely even a 'good bye', or a 'that will do bork'.
However, this was a future they where forging, with every choice and given sacrifice. In hopes of marking a graceful hope for their tribe. Not one that was built on Territory.
Elegant head remained poised and raised proudly. White tail drifted behind her calmly. The clean and pristine fan rested upon her chest and above her heart as she steadily approached the two before her. The glint of Volga's masked, caused a smile to partly show and with the sight of the cub it sweetly pull more across her maw. Yes, this was it...[sage for Dezel ends here]

Volga trailed along behind Feng and his paroo. He had enough on his mind with the change of circumstances as of late, and today found himself lost in thought. Just enough to let the cub and the paroo carry on their conversation without him.
Another spirit entered the area, this time a Nan. Volga looked up to see that signature fan accompanied by deep crimson and snow white fur. Xian! A frin formed on his maw.
"Such grace to be found in such an odd place." Volga chuckled, pushing his previous thoughts to the side.
"Feng!" he called to the cub."I have some one you have to meet!"

Volga's beckoning came only after Ren had found himself comfortably perched on his master's shoulder. The bird had taken to affectionately grooming Feng's streamers from time to time. Thankfully, it seemed to know how to do so without chomping that dangerous beak down on the delicate appendage so Feng allowed Ren to do as he wished. From what he could gather, it was the paroo's way of showing trust and kinship as much as anything. The words that came out of the creature's beak were nonsense to it. Paroo only repeated what they heard. Feng had managed to train him to respond to a few commands, he'd even managed to train him how to repeat a few words- but it was more or less for his entertainment. Perhaps there was a use in it- but for now it was as rough as his climbing skills.
He tilted his head slightly and followed Volga's gaze outwards. Someone to meet?
Sure enough a figure of alabaster moved along the ebony stone around them, graceful as a cloud and confident as a mountain. There was something almost...terrible about her eyes. It was as if she was seeing into everything around her, picking it apart. Feng's ears slowly sank. All the sudden he felt...exposed.
"Y-yes, one moment."
He picked his way back among the rocks, his body shifting to accommodate the uncertain terrain around him. In just a few weeks' time he had learned how to make use of the smallest movements to keep his body from falling over into the sharp, treacherous ground below. Every step required a small plan of action, every paw that touched the ground had to be ready to shift on a moment's notice. It was a difficult way to live, but in time it would certainly train his body how to do naturally what currently took great focus to achieve.
He reached Volga's paws in short order, his eyes glancing curiously to the stranger. "A friend I assume?"

A warm cross breeze gently brushed over the obsidian flats, tousling the crane's carefully pinned hair ever so slightly. Her tactful golden gaze watched as the smaller dot hopped and stumbled over the sharp and rocky terrain. She could feel a steady thumping in her chest that only seemed to thunder faster in pace with each careful step that brought her closer to the two. Which, on closer inspection both had something on their head. The cub wore a crown of a pelt matching paroo and Volga, as always adorn his helmet. Inwardly the smile turned a little sad, at the found reminder that Oni also like to keep his armor on as well. That and she had been one of the few to have seen him without it, even if it was brief and not how they first met. Enough. Xian released a heavy sigh of contempt for herself. Really in was unnecessarily and even slightly annoying to herself. Mentally she scolded herself for her dwelling on such memories. Her thoughts hushed herself, reminding her-now was not the time or place to think of such things. Regardless how found or longing they were...
'Rebellion, War, teaching, learning and above all tact': those things are what Xian's thoughts should be focusing on. On the moment, and on the cub that she will be imparting such things on to. Grand Weaver help her, it is what she felt she was woven to do. The Crane did, with her past travels possess a certain amount of rare skills, that should could also impart on the cub. All of which she would, in time...
If everything in this meeting went well...
Optimistically, she hoped it would and thought it should.
Another slow breath released from Xian's maw as guided paws shifted effortlessly across the glassy terrain. As she drew closer, Golden eyes where noticeably fixed and focused on the two as she drew near. Crimson strands could now be noticed to have fallen past her kept bun in a slightly disheveled manner. It gave faint evidence to the business and drama of the day...
Ebony and Ivory fan remained closed to the chest of Xian's alabaster fur as her elegant steps came to a halt just before the two.
"Fire burn with in you, Tah Volga." Xian offered the formal greeting, with a respectful tilt of her golden horns. White tail curled the fan at her chest angled and turned ever so slightly to give the nod room to move and with out hindrance. Xian and Volga held a kinship that was past such a formal greeting, but as she knew in her travels presentation was almost everything. Especially in a first meeting, and in front of a cub that she would be imparting such things.
Slowly and gracefully the Nahtlil rose from her greeting bow. The fan at her chest delicately shifted to her side as her golden gaze turned from Volga to place themselves on the fire woven cub beside him.
"And especially in you, Tah Feng Huang." The Tactician smiled pleasantly, and letting her eyes close she offered another regal bow to the younger cub.910 [kubo count stops here]

"And to you Nan." Volga responded to Xian with a chuckle.
His tail flicked. Feng's nervousness had not gone unnoticed. Volga watched him descend the rocks carefully, ready to help in a moments notice. Though he was sure the cub did not need it. He was a fast learner.
"A very good friend. This is Xian, a brilliant mind and an even brighter friend. This one is a dazzling light among the dark." Volga grinned as he prattled on with praises for his good friend. It was a slight heckling, but all of it was true.
"She is one you can count on." Volga assured Feng.

Ah, a friend. She presented herself well enough. He didn't sense any malice behind her words or hostility in her posture. There was an easy expression on her face- a thin mask- that hid behind it layers of cunning. He could almost see her mind working and there was a knowing smirk barely brushed back from her maw. It was as if she were picking every small detail apart, analyzing every word, motion, and unspoken word. It was almost frightening on a strange level. He felt very much exposed, laid bare for her eyes. Thankfully, the gentle voice was almost honey-sweet and comfortable, bidding an open audience that was only reinforced with the warmth in her gaze.
Feng dipped his head slightly at the greeting, a little formal for his tastes, but returned in kind, "Your words kindle me, nan. May the fire burn within you as well."
He stood himself upright and brushed some of the formality away. Volga had impressed in him a need to hold himself in a certain way, radiating confidence he didn't yet feel and a poise he hadn't yet settled into. He had to carry an air of prestige around him if he was to hold morale for their cause and maintain it. If he faltered, if he loosened his grip on formality and custom it would reflect poorly on those around them.
"A friend of my master is a friend of mine- and a very welcome one." The cub smiled, "If I could... I would hear of where you have come from- what do you know of the land beyond the obsidian mountains?"

Xian's dark wars turned slightly shifting fallen crimson locks, as she heard the cub respond in kind. The prized keepsake that had been given to her by Oni, shifted to lower to her side. Slowly he golden horns rose, as her stance straightened. Her friend's words and kind banter did not go unnoticed.
"Thank you, Volga." The Tactician spoke and offered him a peaceful smile, a soft breath passed her maw meekly. Golden orbs turned her full attention on the bright little soul before her. He had a fire in his eyes, yet as she peered more deeply into those blue orbs, she saw a uncertainty that was carefully curtained over by curiosity.
"Oh sweet cub," The Nahtlil cooed softly, yellow eyes took a glance up to the mentor that had obviously filled his thoughts of a frightening destiny. She offered a understanding smile; he was still so young....
" what lies bast those mountains isn't anything you should trouble your thoughts with." Xian told him with a gentle smile, and honey on her lips. "Not just yet." The crane added with a coy smile, her white pristine tail shifted behind her. He brow raised as if to single for him to hush any dispute if it came, she wasn't finished.
"But in time, I will offered you that knowledge; as well as the knowing of other lands." The Nahtlil added, as her head raised with a proud reality. "but above all something that is more valuable then any scale offered..." A charming smile move more confidently across her maw.
"Tact, and poise." Xian finished, with a subtle flick and swish of her tail; the fan came to life momentarily before taming at the side of her pelt with an elegant poise.

Volga stood still while Xian explained herself and what she had to offer. He kept an eye on how Feng was responding to her words. She was brilliant. Volga had known her for a while now, one of the very few he would have considered a friend.
Volga's grin remained plastered on his maw while he watched the two. Especially his adopted cub. In directly and inwardly, Volga did consider him a son. Of course, this was not something he would outwardly note. Especially not in the presence of others. He was going to rule the nation.
Once the conversation seemed to die down Volga nodded.
"She will make sure you always have a plan to follow, in peace or war..." He assured Feng.
"I've never been good at planning past combat."

Sweet? His nose wrinkled at that. He'd never been called "sweet" before. He was certain that it wasn't meant as an insult but it was a softer word than he would have liked to be associated with him. He couldn't even pinpoint why it ruffled his fur the way it did. Perhaps he'd spent too much time around sharp, hardened things to take kindly to the gentle things. After all, softness didn't last long here. His tender paws had become calloused quickly here, scrapes and scratches that once bit into his pads now only grazed them. Wounds that he would lick at just days ago now he ignored. He had to. The land itself had fangs and claws here, it had a heated glare and a fridged kiss come nightfall. The slippery surface, smooth and flawless, too quickly shifted into a bed of shale that was sharper than any forged blade but so fragile that the fangs would snap into the flesh and linger until they were dug out.
He deflated a little as knowlege was once again withheld from him. He understood why, on the surface, but quietly resented it all the same. From the moment he was discovered, he'd been elevated into something that he felt...so ill suited for. He knew he was to be something, but he didn't know why. He knew he would have to fight- but for whom? For why? What right did he have?
Volga assured him that in time, he would come to understand. He could be patient- but it still hit a raw nerve. "I understand." He relented, lowering his head slightly.
Her offered insights earned a tilt of his head. "....tact and poise?"

Xian's ears turned back a little as Volga went on to explain to the sweet cub that she was to be there for advice in times of strife and in calm. The Nahtlil confirmed her friend's words with a subtle, yet graceful dip of her horns.
Yes, that was true. She knew know that her journey of knowledge and adventure was all for perpetration for this moment, even if the send off was a little painful. The White Nahtlil already missed Oni greatly.
A smile masked the Nahtlil's thoughts to Volga's ending comment as she brought herself to the conversation at paw, and away from her longing thoughts.
The Cub's maw expression did not go unnoticed by the tactician, it caused that mild smile of her to broaden with poised grin. She would have to remember to keep those words for only a special occasion. Playfully, she thought it had been due to Volga's influence. Though as gold eyes placed themselves on the cub and his rugged appearance, the wild nature was no doubt instilled by the struggle of survival.
As the cub tilted his head under the tactician's inspection, her ears turned forward as a curiousness caused her brow to raise. He seemed a bit lost, to the destiny that Volga had seemed to promise him. To be fair, the little that he had shared with her, was almost too heavy of a burden for her own horns.
"Yes, Young Lord." The words left the Nahtlil with a bit of hidden surprise. "Tact. You will need to know, as not all conflicts are best handled with the tip of your horns, but rather by a keen sense of knowing what to say to avoid it" Xian went on to explain, she was not going to dumb down any of her words, but rather speak them in a way he might be able to understand.
"And poise." The White Nahtlil smiled. "it's a steadiness of grace, and a show of diligent as well as a self-confidence. That as a leader, other b'alam will admire and find it easier to trust your decisions." Xian added letting her explanation pause. To make sure and see if she would need to explain in another manner

Volga had been used to the Tactician's mannerisms before, so the 'special' word went ignored. She knew darn well not to call him anything of the like, and if the cub did not like it, well, he would have to make sure she knew in his own way. Volga would help where he could, but he already promised himself not to coddle the cub too much. Even if Feng felt more like Volga's son... a slight detail he would never convey to anyone. Not even Crucible.
"He has already made great accomplishments for a cub. Those around him are confident. Even if there are few now... it will only get better with time." Volga seemed confident.

There was more...?
As Xian explained her statements, he felt his chest deflate. So on top of knowing how to defend himself, and others, he would need to learn how to speak a certain way too- and apparently how to act. He understood some of it, at least. If he went stumbling about then any around him would doubt his ability as a fighter, much less a leader. Volga had taught him first how to simply move on the trecherous landscape around them. He couldn't very well fight on such a plane if he couldn't turn, jump, land, or run without falling over himself. In a place like this, one mis-step could lead to grave injury.
But even that didn't seem like enough. From the sounds of it, he would have to learn how to do that with...grace. Quietly, he could see the wisdom of even that. If he could make something as difficult as moving against the uneven shale look not only easy, but graceful, it would certainly speak well of his abilities without ever having to say anything.
Volga's words shook him out of his thoughts. They were...?
"I'm afraid my teacher thinks too highly of my abilities- appreciated as those thoughts are." Feng offered an apologetic smile. "I have a long way to go yet. I would be glad of some additional instruction- if you're willing to give it."

Xian's elegant smile remained as she listened to her friend's concordance for the cub. That was Volga: always so confident and bold; pride stood powerfully upon his horns. Though, it was rarely given and never missed place in those he choose to share it with.
However gold eyes rested on the destined cub before her. He did not seem as confident, he lack the trust in his abilities. Which, in a way was a good thing. He had yet not abilities to trust in, he was only a cub. Even a newly woven cub can learn to stumble their way across broken and sharp rocks...Which, by the raise and tattered tiffs of fur just above the pads of his paws and groves of his claws, he was just learning that.
Dark ears perked a little as she listened to the cub and the unknown wisdom he possessed. It caused the teacher to smile even more. Perhaps, for now-it was best that such remains unknown, and he remain teachable as well as humble.
"I would be more then pleased to do so, my Lord" The Nahtlil stated and once more tilted her horns offering a bow to the cub. Her prized fan shifted once more to the side. "It would be my honor, and purpose." Xian let him know with the gentle closer of her golden eyes as her head tilted fully down in a bow.
The Cub's answer and meeting was brief, but in the few answers that was given to her-flamed the purpose she knew to be in her heart. This Cub, Feng would be her leader and lord, and she his teacher.

Volga couldn't have been more proud of the cub. He only allowed his maw to slightly tip upward at the corners. The cub was not full of himself, like a few others he had meet in his lifetime.
"I may have a lot to learn from -you-" Volga, uncharacteristically, added a comment. It was not often he admitted such a thing in front of others. He was always confident around others.
Slowly Volga shook his head.
"At least we have been allowed time. The dragon army has yet to stir. Though this silence may not be completely a blessing... We do not yet know their full numbers. I also have yet to hear from Crucible."
Volga's voice trailed off for a moment while he thought about it. She could hold her own.
