Inselelo RP Contest

Required reading: Inselelo Challenge Info - This explains information about what actually owning an Inselelo entails. By entering, you are agreeing to the details written in this thread. Including forfeiting rights to decide where cubs are homed to.
Required reading: Rank Description - This explains what is expected of an Inselelo as well as information about their terms and how to extend their time in the pride.

This male is the pride's second Inselele. His name, personality and history are entirely up to you. He could have joined before or after Emrys was defeated and replaced by Tawa'shilah, but he must have joined after Emrys beat Gabedi.

However he did not fight another Inselelo to get in, instead he proved himself, somehow, to the pride and earned the rank by merit instead of blood. How and why he got the position is entirely up to you and the point of this RP contest to decide. Rather than Meep or I coming up with a scenario in an ORP for him to show up and join up, we thought...why don't YOU come up with it. Simply fill out the form below to enter!

He's open for anyone to enter for, no matter how many SoA you own or how many you have in the Bonelands.
His first term will begin once this contest is complete and a winner announced.

While there is no activity requirement except to keep him in the pride longer, we'd love to see him stay until his last term. <3
Any custom-ins for litters sired by him will be paid for by myself.

I have a cub from Andhaka and Monifa from the pride.

I want that dude!
Username: RamuneGrl
Lion's Name: Biopelo
Name Meaning: Means "proud" in Tswana.
Personality: Like his name the male is very prideful. Walking with purpose everywhere that he might go. Even when he was to lose a fight he would not let his defeater see how much it effected him. Sometimes he is humble, when in the presence of beauty or duty.
History: As a cub he strived to be better than his father. His father who was so docile and broken. Letting other push him around as a slave. He escaped and vowed he'd never be like that. He vowed to never let anyone put him under their heel. If he were to lose, never show them an ounce of anything they could use against him. If he lost, he'd loose humbly.
How did he become an Inselelo:

This day felt like any other day for the male as he lumbered around. His large paws kicking up dirt every so often. The heat of the sun above was enough to make him feel dizzy, tired, and also sleepy. He had eaten that night previously and still felt full from the meal. Maybe that was why he still felt so sluggish. The carcass of the healthy wildebeest he had killed was being torn into by some scavengers he was quite sure of it. At least by now it had to be. Someone else would be getting a rather good meal.

With a snort he continued on his journey. He had a feeling that something was going to happen today. Not exactly sure what it was but something was going to happen.

Padding forward he began to hear some sort of commotion upon the river bank he could see not to far from him. Someone was yelling. A small voice. Was that a cub's screams? He didn't even think, the male lunged forward. Paws hitting the ground and propelling him forward.

There were three cubs and a very angry hippo and her own babies. A dead lioness near them. From what he could from the looks of it, the lioness was protecting her cubs and had been killed. A hippo was a dangerous creature, even for the likes of him but there were cubs and he was not about to let them get hurt.

Roaring he leaped forward. His large paws swiping at the creature who reeled back. "Get to safety!" He roared at the cubs. They couldn't possible thin that they could have done anything by staying near the dead lioness. "Go up the embankment!"

Still he swiped. Being careful of the creature. It would kill him if it got its jaws about him. Crush him as it crushed the now lifeless body of the lioness on the embankment. That's when he noticed another body starting to wash close to the embankment. A cub. Now he understood why the lioness died, why the other cubs where there. They had been playing in the water and not realized the hippos were there. It had perturbed them. Another few swipes and he could see the hippo sliding back into the water with her own babies.

He waited a moment before deciding to get closer to the water and scooped up the cub in his maw. Heart breaking as he lifted the little male and went to the other cubs. He'd retrieve the mother soon but he needed to make sure they were safe.

"My name is Biopelo." Looking at the cubs. "I'm sorry about your mother." At least he assumed she was their mother.

Tears were in the little cubs eyes. "We were just playing. It didn't mean to happen like this." They chimed in unison, nearly overwhelming him. Clearly they were still all shaken up by the experience.

He set the dead cub down. "Do you have a home? I can take out back." He didn't even know where exactly he was. Little did he know he was on the edge of the lands of the Ithambo’hlabathi.

"We aren't far from home." They had gotten just to the edge to play when this had happened.

The male looked back at the other body. "Let me get your mother and I will walk with you home. No more surprises and if there are surprises, I'll protect you."

He returned to the lioness and maneuvered himself to haul the body onto himself. Then returned to the little cub and picked it up in his maw. Giving them a nod, he followed them back. Better to return them to the place of their home then allow them to be eaten by scavengers here.

I want that dude!
Username: Tanakako
Lion's Name: Abasi
Name Meaning: Swahili name meaning "stern."
Personality: Just as he is named, this male is stern and no-nonsense. He takes life very seriously, every action considered and evaluated. He adheres to his own rules with a single-minded determination that would be scary if he wasn't so honourable. He has never been heard to laugh.
History: He was born to a small pride of eight females controlled by just one male. As is typical he left as an adolescent and set off to fend for himself. His brothers lingered at home but were eventually cast out by the females as they grew to old and annoying. One of them found Abasi and joined up with him to form a bachelor pair. Less than a year later his brother picked a fight with a snake and died a week after. Abasi has always assumed the snake that bit him was poisonous but he isn't completely sure. Nevertheless, the incident stayed with him, and he has hated snakes and idiots that toy with them ever since.
He is from the same pride that Busisa Marditah used to belong to. They aren't related.
How did he become an Inselelo: (Using my bonelanders for this)
Sifiso wasn't allowed very far from the den, not without supervision. But her friend Khethiwe had turned up along with Maditah, one of the pride's lionessess who was known to both mothers, and the two girls had joyfully scurried off together, the babysitter following close behind. Sifi and Khet weren't related by blood, at least not that either of them could work out, but they were as close as sisters. Khet was older, big enough to always win their games of tumble and pounce. But neither of them felt the age gap. Khet watched over her 'little sister', as she called the golden-coated cub, and Sifi worshiped the ground Khet walked on. Their mothers hadn't yet corrected either girl over calling each other sister and it was unlikely that either ever would. Considering the fact that the two cubs were siblings in all but blood anyway (one the daughter of Bangizwe and the other born of Andhaka). This day Khet decided they would go play somewhere new, somewhere that she had heard some of the other cubs bragging about.

"Come on Sifi!" She called, racing across the grass, the younger golden cub following close behind. Both girls ignored the babysitter's calls to stop, and forced the lioness to chase after them in a great game of tag. Eventually the two cubs tired, Sifi much faster than her taller and stronger sister, but Khet would never leave Sifi behind so the pair slumped down together under a huge tree, laughing breathlessly and chattering about their day so far, imagining every bush as a dangerous predator they had outsmarted and every puddle as the biggest river they had forded. Grateful for the rest, their babysitter shadow had settled down with them and relaxed, watching over her two charges with typical determination.

The day passed, the cubs played and rested, drank from a small pool nearby and otherwise did as all cubs do, wrestled and talked and dreamed. The lioness stayed close by but didn't interfere, leaving the youngsters to their games, only calling them back when they got too far from the tree. None of them noticed the family of warthogs that had been drawing slowly closer, rooting in the earth as the big grey pigs typically did, hidden from the babysitter by the tall grass and a slight rise just beyond the small pool that the cubs had been drinking from. It was only when Sifi yelled in shock and fear that the lioness realised they were not alone. Springing up she darted forwards, tracing the smaller cub's scream to the rise. There, Khet stood in front of Sifi, her tiny fangs bared at an infuriated looking mother hog while Sifi cowered behind her. Grabbing up the golden fluffball she called out to Khethiwe, her words muffled around Sifi's wriggling body. Managing to get the red cub to retreat behind her, she backed up slowly, keeping her gaze fixed on the warthog mother. Unable to attack with Sifiso in her mouth, the lioness did the best she could, getting both cubs back to the tree and into a shallow hole in its trunk. Placing herself in front of the crevice she hissed a warning at the pig, lashing out with her front paws when the ugly beast charged. Enraged, the mother hog screamed and charged again, seemingly ignoring the red gashed the lioness opened up in its hide as it swung its huge jagged tusks at her. Another charge and this time the creature got past her flashing paws and barrelled directly into her, driving her backwards, both of them bouncing off the rough bark and careening away. Panicked, the babysitter roared, struggling to get away from the hog's tusks long enough to reach the cubs, but the mother pig was relentless, stabbing at her vulnerable belly after tripping her, again and again. Minutes later she stood, blood patterning the dirt under her paws as it dripped from her fur, partly her own, partly the hog's. Pain bloomed from a tear in her flank deep enough to pain her despite her frantic distraction as she licked and nudged the cubs, the dead hog mother laying not three yards distant.

Then she heard something that made her blood run cold. The excited laugh of a hyena. Suddenly she realised that her fight with the hog must have alerted the scavengers. Panic bloomed anew, fresh and ever more urgent. They had to get away! She may be able to fend off one of the creatures, even injured as she was, but they never travailed alone. Grabbing the terrified Sifi in her maw she started hurrying Khethiwe along, the cub racing as fast as she could but the lioness knew it would not be fast enough. The laughing was closing in, coming from two directions now, and close. Panic gripped her, Sifi crying out as her grip became painful on the cub's ruff. In front, Khethiwe was panting and stumbling, her young legs not strong enough to keep up the speed for long. They were closer now! Their laughter ringing in her ears with the joy of the hunt. Hunting her, hunting the cubs!

A savage roar split the air, a sound like crashing thunder that shook her body, and she swore the ground itself trembled with the raw fury of it. Her blood went cold as she realised it was not an Abaholi roar. It was unknown to her, and it was coming from in front of them. They were racing right at it. Jumping over the cowering Khethiwe she crouched, ears flat to her head, terror flooding her as she braced for the impact of the massive male racing towards them. At the last second she flinched, knowing it was unlikely she would survive such an attack. Her heartbeat closed, her breath froze in her throat.

Nothing.

Slowly, like dirt-filled runoff after a drought her heart restarted, a dull thump-thump as if it couldn't quite believe she was still alive to hear it. Belatedly, as if through thick fog, she heard the sounds of a fight. Furious roars and vicious snarling yaps echoed from behind. Trembling she opened her eyes and stared back over her shoulder. What she saw stunned her, and she never felt the soft thump as Sifi fell from her slack jaws onto the ground between her paws and into her trembling sister. The rogue male, the one she had been sure was about to kill them all, was battling three hyenas. The three hyenas that a moment ago had been close enough that she had felt their putrid breath on her rump, their fangs aching to rip into her flesh. Only now they were no longer laughing, but screaming in pain and fear as the big male ripped into them, fur and blood splattering the immediate area. One broke free of the fight and fled, howling its pain all the way. Another, more foolish creature, attacked the big grey male only to be tossed aside like a scrap of unwanted meet to land in an unmoving heap. Its throat torn out. The last, upon seeing its pack-mate dead, took off after the first, its tail tucked as it kicked dust up behind it in a frantic escape. The big male sprang forwards a few strides then roared his fury and warning. Red lines of blood stained his fur, dusted with golden sand. He was huge and pale as a ghost. He seemed as a spirit come to rescue the cubs. Only his harsh breathing and the quiet drip-drip of blood onto the dry earth proved that he was indeed real and not some desert mirage.

Finally he moved, turning slowly to face her. His expression had calmed, no longer the savagery of fangs and claws, but a serious and studious visage. He regarded her silently for a moment so long that her heart rate picked back up as nervousness flooded her. Would he attack?

"Maditah.." He spoke suddenly, his voice a deep slow rumble, and strangely ...reassuring? Shock flooded her once again and she felt almost dizzy from it. He knew her? Her knew her name!? "Maditah." He said again, as if sensing her distress and seeking to calm her from it. "It is safe." She heard him, she truly did, but she didn't. She couldn't!

Wait....

Recognition dawned slow and sluggish, like a fuzzy memory that had almost become a dream, something from a distant past she had thought forgotten. "Abasi?" She gasped, uncaring that her maw had dropped open like a witless cub. her shock so profound that she could feel her reality shifting slightly, trying to realign with this impossibility. "Abasi?" She asked again, taking a hesitant step forwards. He had grown! The last time she had seen the pale grey youngster he had been a gangly, long-legged adolescent with barely any mane, pale eyes and pale fur like a ghost, and like a ghost he had simply left the pride one day. The first of the males from that season's litters to do so while his brothers lingered and annoyed the lionesses until they had been forced to drive the big gangly nuisances away for good.

Abasi.

Relief flooded her and she sat down right where she was, her heart pounding in her chest along with the pain in her side as Sifiso and Khethiwe peered round from behind her with confused expressions. She watched in dumb bemusement as the giant grey male walked slowly up to her. He studied her for a long minute, as if making sure she was going to be alright, then he glanced at the cubs. "It's safe now." He repeated to them, only to step back as they came tumbling forwards, curiosity overriding their fear as they reasoned that this male had to be a good one as Maditah wasn't chasing him off. Suddenly he had two little balls of fur squirming between his front paws as they besieged him with questions. And to her amused amazement, he answered them.

"Who are you?"

"Abasi."

"Where are you from?"

"Far away."

"How do you know Madi?"

"We were in the same pride."

"How old are you?"

"How old are you?" He returned, glancing at Maditah with what she thought might be the slightest of smiles. Suddenly he stood and, carefully manoeuvring around the cubs, he came to her again. "You are wounded." She realised that her side was aching something terrible and she felt weak. Nodding she shrugged. "A warthog found us first." He nodded then moved up beside her, eyeing the blood-soaked gash and the skin hanging from it. "I'll walk you home." She tried to refuse, tried to warn him of the Abaholi, of the fact that he would be viewed as an enemy, but he simply ignored her words, carefully helped her stand and, with Sifiso in his mouth and Khethiwe riding high on his back, he supported her limping frame as they set off for home.

I want that dude!
Username: Ecavi
Lion's Name: Kuhasa
Name Meaning: Fog (Hindi)
Personality: The kind of lion who acts now and asks questions later, Kuhasa generally means and does well for himself.. but he’s an obstinate fellow who would let everything get completely out of hand before admitting he might have been wrong or needs help. Having never been part of any pride before, he’s rough around the edges and has a lot to learn about pride life.
History: A life-long rogue, he’s never been a part of a pride but he’s always believed that having one’s own pride is the ideal for any proper lion. Unfortunately for him, he has always lacked the patience and resources necessary to found one of his own. His pride and his enthusiasm often make him look more foolish than he is but, living on his own, it has never been a problem before.
How did he become an Inselelo:

Kuhasa had been living in the same general area for some time and had grown accustomed to drought conditions.. unfortunately, that didn’t really make survival for a lone lion any easier, and he tended to wander farther in times like this. Scavenging was his general go-to method of staying well-fed, but that required impeccable timing lately- and not just because it seemed like there was an unusually concentrated vulture population in the area.

Lucky for him, he had another strategy!

It had taken an obscene amount of time to track down a herd of gazelles but he was slowly pushing them closer and closer to the river. They were a small group, which was less than ideal as it made them more likely to be capable of working together well and passing along warnings of impending doom.. but it was the best he could do if he wanted to eat today. With a languid sigh, he flopped down into the dirt at the river’s edge, dipping a paw in the water and pulling it out to drink the water off his paw. He looked content and uninterested when the gazelles found him, and he watched them from his peripheral vision. He’d never catch them by surprise like this and they all knew it, so it was with little hesitation that they approached the water’s edge.

Unlucky for them, he wasn’t the one they needed to watch out for.

It all happened in an instant. A gazelle got close to the water’s edge and was snapped up and dragged into the water by a lurking crocodile. The remaining beasts cried out and fled the riverside, but Kuhasa jumped to his feet and crossed the shallow part of the river to watch. Minutes passed and the croc settled in to enjoy his meal, completely ignoring his pale, furry audience-- but Kuhasa was not going to be ignored.

He cleared his throat.

“Zahif,” he said.

No answer.

“You b*****d!” he called, growling at the scaly creature, “Don’t eat it all!”

Zahif, a large, long male crocodile finally cast Kuhasa an annoyed look and slowly paddled closer to the bank where the lion stood glaring at him. The lion met him in the shallows and made a grab for the remnants of the gazelle, starting a game of tug-of-war he had no chance of winning until he swatted at the crocodile’s eyes. Zahif released his prize and let Kuhasa drag it ashore, but he lurked near the edge with his mouth open and his teeth showing.

The pale lion didn’t seem to care one he had his share of the meal. They had a system that worked for them: Kuhasa would help the water seem safe and Zahif wouldn’t have to wait for the idiot preybeasts who didn’t notice there was a very hungry predator in this section of the river. At a glance, it didn’t look so much like teamwork.. it looked like Kuhasa was picking a fight he couldn’t possibly win, and somehow coming away unscathed. That was certainly how it looked to the pride lionesses who had been tracking the gazelles that had ended up at the river. They watched, expecting to see the trespassing male meet a grisly end, and instead, he impressed them. Nobody stood up to the crocodiles infesting what remained of their water, certainly not from that distance!

Notes: Zahif (‘creepy’ in Arabic), is a male crocodile that sits near (but not at) the top of the local crocodile population simply because he is one of the largest. He and Kuhasa are in a very regular/familiar relationship, but really.. it’s Kuhasa that would be the familiar. Don’t tell him (or the ladies) ;3

Lion's Name: Roho'miguu
Name Meaning: Ghostfeet
Personality: Roho is a gentle giant, but you don't want to see him angry. Violence is his last resort, however. If he can solve a problem in a non-violent way he'd rather do that. He's got a strong sense of right and wrong, and will not sit silently if someone violates his moral code.
History: Roho was a scrawny and awkward adolescent so he had to rely on stealth and cleverness to survive until he grew into his paws and bulked up. It was a hard life, between leaving his mother and actually being able to hold his own in a fight, but he survived.
How did he become an Inselelo:
Roho's blood boiled with rage. His opponent was already dead, but he kept tearing up the hyena. The grey fur on his front legs was decorated with splattered blood, but nothing indicated that he would stop anytime soon.

"I said… leave… other's kills… alone…"

It was so unnecessary. He knew hyenas were perfectly capable of bringing down their own kills, but for some reason this one seemed to be a kleptomaniac. He had brought down a kill that would have fed him comfortably for days, only to find it dragged away while he was napping. It wasn't hard to follow the tracks to find the thief. The hyena told him a fanciful story about how some other lion had dragged it there and traded it with him. Roho was skeptical and said as much before taking back what was his. He had most of his kill back, and he figured the hyena deserved the benefit of a doubt.

The next time he actually caught the hyena in the act. It wasn't his kill this time, but it clearly wasn't the hyena's either. In fact, Roho had seen two lionesses taking it down earlier. After a stern talking to, the hyena reluctantly abandoned his spoils. Roho watched it from afar, only moving closer when a scavenger showed too much interest, and sure enough the two lionesses tracked it down eventually. He didn't know if they saw him, and he didn't really care. Roho hadn't done it to get a pat on the back.

The third time was the last drop, and the lion didn't even try to reason with the thief. With a roar as the only warning, he attacked.

When he calmed down and started coming to his senses, he realized he was being watched. He recognized the two lionesses from the other day, among a group of many females. Roho didn't know if this was good or bad.
