It was time to face her reality.
Rose approached the spread of weapons that were set up for they - the Chosen - to use. Actual, physical weapons. The singer could feel a tremble of uncertainty in her chest, a frightened bird against the cage of ribs, but she knew nothing was going to change if she didn't take the first step. Delicate fingers slowly ghosted over the archaic looking weapons, over worn grips and knicked metals. It all started here. But where to start?
The songstress chose the obvious - melee, picking up a sword first. A short laugh escaped her, the type that said no, this will not do, immediately putting it back down before she dropped it. Her second choice was a dagger, balancing the blade against her outstretched fingers and feeling that thrill of nerves in her chest again. It felt wrong, it felt so...undignified. But wasn't that war? A faint smile flickered over her lips, turning to the dummy, feeling a little foolish with the weapon in hand.
Holding it in her right hand, she shook her head and shifted it to her left. That was more comfortable. Uncertain, she raised her hand and slashed at the dummy, doing a fair score of damage against it.
But it was wrong. It was too close. She liked her audience back where she could see them all, not within touching distance. Putting the dagger down, she reviewed her options again.

Distance. She wanted distance. Her eyes flit over the stars, darts and axes, not sure she'd have enough heft to do anything but hurt herself. Bows, though - she'd had an archery class before. Maybe that would be more up her alley.
Selecting the crossbow, she settled the weight easily against her left side, knocking in the bolt with a mixture of familiarity and careful consideration, learning how to use this weapon in this moment. It wasn't exactly a bow and arrow, but she assumed it would follow the rules of wind and distance, as well as being similar to a gun with kickback. Rose set the bow against her shoulder to aim, and fired.
It did kick, but it wasn't bad, and she wouldn't have to hold it so close. The strength of the weapon itself was agreeable, and knocking in another bolt, she decided she'd work with it for now.

Rose exhaled slowly, relaxing her shoulders, utilizing the breathing techniques used to prepare for a performance. Her focus came easier, the fear and butterflies present but manageable. Letting loose another bolt, the dummy spun and lost an arm.
Surprise lit her features, and then a slight grin. The butterflies were beginning to win out over the fear.

Faster. She set the bolt, lifted, fired. It wasn't as well hit as her last one, but it was still solid, the dummy's head lolling to one side.

Again. Her fingers were a little more deft, her arms a little more familiar with the weight of the bow itself. Bolt set, knocked, fire.
The dummy spun and fell off its stand. Rose gasped softly, and then laughed, a melodious sound of joyful relief. She could do it - even if the dummy was inert, she had proven to herself that it was doable.

There was a surge of nerves as she moved to the next dummy - the one that would strike her back. Rose knocked her bolt into place, aimed, and let fly.
The strike back was immediate, yanking the air from her lungs in a gasp. Sure, she'd expected it to hurt, but it's not like she'd ever truly been attacked before. Better that Rose learned it this way than in the heat of battle when there was no time to think about it.

Rolling her shoulders, she shook off the slight tremor of anticipation of pain and started to move. Her feet strafed slowly as she reloaded her weapon of choice, trying to feel comfortable in her own skin and find the balance in the soles of her feet to make this work.

The crossbow wasn't as unwieldy, the bolts sliding easier into place even without having to look. She could maneuver it by feel, because what was a weapon but an instrument to be utilized by its player?
Rose stepped a little faster to the side and let loose the bolt, knocking off an arm at the elbow.

It would not do for Rose to get too excited or feel too confident. As an artist, she knew that the moment she became complacent or thought she was 'good enough,' she'd no longer grow, and that was unacceptable.
The bolt struck, but it was shot wide. A lesson learned.

Her hands were chafing a bit, unused to the strain of pulling the bolt into place and the rub of the weapon as it discharged. Rose had a few callouses on her hand from years of working with them, but this was a different beast entirely.
The shot hit wide again. Rose pursed her lips, eyes narrowed.

Her steps began to vary, but not too fast. She knew she wasn't going to be a tried and true warrior after a few dummy shots, but she wanted to measure her breathing, her pacing, her performance. Rose wasn't in a hurry, but she could see the dummy was in a state of decay from the barrage; it was heartening, allowing her to continue pushing on.

She didn't mix up the next shot, just trying to hold her pace and concentration. Managing the strikes to her person were as wearing as the weapon that was aching to be familiar between her fingers, both heavy on her mind. Rose had no doubts she could handle a dummy at this rate, but an animal? Or a humanoid? The thought brought a cold wash through her ribs, but she ignored it. Not now. Now is not the time.

The dummy lost its arm in full, but it wasn't enough to stop the attacks; as such, Rose would not cease either. She knew she'd be bruised and have a few minor cuts from repeated hits...but she was alive. That was the goal, after all.

The next bolt hit the dummy in its attack device, but not hard enough to stop it. Rose could feel the slight curve of a smile. She was winning.
