    welcome to other ashdown.
You fell asleep or you were turning a corner or perhaps you were stepping through a door. Whatever your action, as your vision shifts, you realize the world around you is suddenly changed. Places you are familiar with are distorted dark parallels of themselves with deep shadows and soft, untraceable sounds. It seems, while outdoors, that it's perpetually raining. Sometimes a drizzle, other times a bit more.

The city of Ashdown is exactly laid out as you remember but everything is off. It's just like the town rumor you've heard: if you wander the streets of Ashdown enough you'll find yourself in a place where it rains all the time.

You find yourselves here within a block of the Ashdown theatre, blocks of quiet storefronts and the occasional residence before you, with only the sound of rain coming down in your ears. Nothing tells you where you should go but you hear voices.

In the distance, despite the gloomy nature of your surroundings, the marquee of the theatre glints.

Juniper was exhausted courtesy of a double shift at work. An unplanned double shift none-the-less. Too many people had called off, probably to enjoy the lovely summer evening or something of that nature, and Juniper had been asked to stay. It wasn't a bad situation. She needed the money, but considering she hadn't planned to stay so long she hadn't mentally been ready for such a long day. Plus, she had intended on utilizing the lovely evening and hitting up the main square or maybe the park to busk for a bit. Ah well, such was life. It's not terribly late. Maybe I can get home, change, and head out yet.

Who was she kidding. She was going to go home, change into pajamas and curl up with her cat, Star. Still, Juniper was willing to pretend that she was going to try and make a bit more cash tonight.

Yawning, she turned a corner around a large brick building. With tears in her eyes from her exhaustion she didn't register at first that things weren't what they had been a moment ago. It wasn't until a few steps later she she slowed to a halt as she looked around herself in fascination. "What the..."

The rain fell around her and the strangeness of the town had Juniper spinning on her heels to look back the way she came only to confirm that it looked the same as what lay in front of her. Everything was dreary in appearance. In fact, there was hardly any cheerfulness to it except for the pale glow of the theatre marquee in front of her. Her apartment was still a fair distance away too, but at least she could walk in the general direction of the theatre and hence move closer to something a little less...well...spooky.

"I almost feel like Alice." She murmured softly to herself as she moved along the sidewalk. "What the hell happened." As she grew closer to the theatre, the marquee lights grew just a bit more brighter but never seemed to completely overtake the gloom of the city.

"Oh," Temperance said, and pinched the inside of her arm. Hadn't Zac or someone mentioned that carrying an umbrella at all times might be prudent? She'd been here (sort of) before - but the times she'd come had been unnerving and felt dream-like. Not that this time didn't feel dreamlike, it certainly did. She emerged from the alley way she'd spawned in - it was a spawn, there was no other term that quite captured it for Temperance - and out onto the street.

The soft squish of her sneakers against the wet pavement seemed oddly loud. Temperance recognized where she was, well, as much as she could recognize. The theater light glinted just down the block and there was someone else. Temperance almost called out but hesitated. What if it were a weird goopy thing instead of a real person? She walked a little behind the other person, fully prepared to duck down a side street if something spooky happened.

The gentle fall of the rain was almost enough to mask the sound of footfalls behind her but an off beat splash of a puddle or scraping of a foot caught Junipers attention. For a second she wasn't sure if she should stop to turn aroun dand look, considering she was a bit creeped out the way it was, but eventually decided that knowing was better than not. So, with a slight hesitation, she slowed her walk to stop and glance over her shoulder to see a girl whom she recognized. Letting out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, Juniper waved. She didn't recall a name, but a familiar face was worth a lot right now.

"Funny weather, right?" She remarked, though knew deep in her gut there was something else besides the weather going on right now. "Are you headed towards the theatre?"

It seemed like the most logical place to walk to since it was the only somewhat inviting building around.

"I...I recognize you but don't remember your name." She smiled sheepishly. "I am not terribly good with names though so it's not surprising. I am Juniper." She introduced herself with a nod of her head. "In case, ya know....we haven't actually introduced ourselves. I am glad to see you're alright."

It was familiar, but only vaguely so. Shun had only been here once before, after all. He hadn't quite been able to find his way to the other side on his own. Until now that is.

He looked up to the rainy sky and let out a sigh. Though, he quickly realized that he wasn't here alone. He also wasn't really anywhere near his apartment, for that matter as well.

Turning towards the source of the voices, he spotted a few others. None of them were particularly familiar to him. From the sounds of it, they had just popped here as well. That was... slightly alarming. While he had run into Mercer the last time, he wasn't really aware that this place could pull multiple people from different places into one location. The fact they were planted in front of a theater was... curious.

"I have a bad feeling about this..."

It was lucky for Theo that he appeared within sight of the theater rather than across town outside the bathroom he had just left in the real world, otherwise he might not have found anyone at all. Following the night he'd dreamed of Gloom and that alley and burning a scorch into the wall with his bare hand, he had tried not to think of the supernatural more than he was forced to. For the most part, he'd succeeded. Though the hairs at the back of his neck had prickled at the news of Blackfriars, he hadn't looked into it. He hadn't even visited the brick he'd charred, reluctantly sure of what he'd find if he did.

He supposed this place didn't like being ignored. At least there were other people here this time instead of a smoky ferret. Maybe. It was possible they were ferrets too, waiting for the perfect time to drop to all fours and puke riddles at him.

Hands in the pockets of his gray canvas coveralls, Theodore approached the others as nonthreateningly as possible. Whatever they were, he didn't want to startle them.

He didn't have groceries this time, which was about the only plus. Dawson might have taken more comfort in the fact that he had stumbled onto even more lost people at the same time, making them a safe if stranded group, but at the moment he was filled with something like impotent anger mingling with rather potent ********' Jesus a** Christ Mary Joseph n' the Apostles, come on!" he half cursed, half whined in a rather loud voice as he wandered into the group. "Please tell me one y'all got a magic animal or some s**t outta this, I need t'get t'work."

Screw magic, he needed the real power here: money.

It was the day before the full moon, which meant that Lily was well into feeling too small for her skin again. There were things she could do to mitigate the itching need to climb, certain practices and postures in her classes as well as aerial techniques she'd begun to research. But there was no escaping the vertigo that accompanied being too tall, too wide, too...bipedal.

Corpse pose was a small retreat, at least, if she could just settle into her breathing. It was almost the same as being on fours, and being so low to the ground helped combat the nausea that came from being too big. She had been focused on her core, trying to imagine the air flowing through all of her, when something in the air shifted and she began to feel dripping on her bare torso. She opened her eyes to an alleyway in the rain, staring up blankly at the clouds.

Oh. Great.

Lily groaned as she rolled onto her knees, slouching as she stepped out into a clearing where others were beginning to congregate. She rubbed her eyes and yawned, giving a sideways glance at Dawson's remark before looking for the moon. "Give it about twenty-four hours, buddy."

The rain that had been a fine, steady fall seemed to increase. In the limited light, a small creature of some sort was visible as it tore into something. It looked up, startled at the number of people, and snarled. The noise it made was louder than it should have been for it's size but it quickly darted off down the street, whatever it was tearing into in tow.

Towards the theatre.

Juniper looked around as more and more people began showing up. Normally, this wouldn't be an odd thing. Not when out and about in the city, but something about all of this was terribly off. And, with the way others were reacting, it seemed that some of them had dealt with a situation like this before, which was even curiouser.

"Alright, am I the only one here who is completely confused on what's happening?" She questioned as she looked for one person to another.

Her eyes landed on Dawson at his rather...explicit use of language. "That is quite a list of people to swear upon." she muttered. "Not sure what they have to do with animals though?"

Damn, she was very, very lost. Her lack of intelligence on the matter though only meant she stood there amongst the group in a...relative, ease. After all, she wasn't alone anymore, and there were people there who seemed knowledgable. So, she could just....remain calm.

Plus, being practiced at meditation and remaining calm certainly helped matters.

Beyond the impromptu group that was forming, Juniper caught sight of something. How she saw it was beyond her in gloomy rain that continued to fall, but see it she did. What it was, she couldn't make out but the snarl it made, worried her that it could be a stray dog. Instantly her heart went out to the creature. "Hey wait!" She yelled after it as it began running away from them. All she could think of was getting the poor animal and maybe getting it a real meal. Something that wasn't probably garbage.

So, she chased after it.

Theo watched the pale woman run off after another damn ferret. This place was lousy with them. He hunched his shoulders against the rain and shook his head, but didn't move.

"She's gonna die," he muttered.

It wasn't that he didn't care, he just sure as hell wasn't following her alone.

"Confused kinda implies that this bullshit can be understood, so I'm not really there," Lily responded dryly, hunching her shoulders to keep the rain off of her exposed midriff. Her eyes followed the flash of a creature with a stare that might have been recognition, or at least a new and sudden interest.

"Don't everyone move all at once," she said with a tired glance, walking forward at a metered place. She wasn't going to act desperate about what might have been Gloom in front of all of these strangers, but surely anything inside was going to be better than standing around like a bunch of jackasses in a storm.

Whatever it was was gone, disappeared into the rainy streets. Instead as they got closer to the theatre they would notice things floating in the air. The billowed up and down on a breeze none of them would feel, looking as if they might be faint, white, wispy jellyfish or tufts of dandelion seed.

Whatever they were they floated towards the group as if seeking them out, down from the marquee and the now faintly glowing lights that lined the street.

The creature, whatever it was, was too quick for Juniper. The gloom and rain swallowed it up as quickly as she had originally seen it and Juniper was left standing under the glow of the marquee lights as the others began to catch up with her and the theatre.

Normally, Juniper would have turned to rejoin the group as the moved closer, but her eyes were drawn to the floating objects. "If I didn't know better, I'd think I was dreaming all of this. None of this can be real though." She said softly as she watched the white wisps drifted on an unseen breeze towards them.

"Anyone know what these are?" With no real reason to feel a sense of fear of this new Ashdown she had wandered into, Juniper was fascinated by these new puffs. She didn't actively seek one out, but when one drew near to her, she held up a hand to watch the curiosity land upon her hand.

In a flash, the wispy tendrils of the murmur closed around Juniper's hand. Something like energy sizzles along her skin; a sudden jolt of memory hitting her.

It hurts us, it hurts us, several voices call out in the darkness. She cannot see anything, everything is dark except for pinpoints of color off in the distance. Something bright sizzles across the darkness, coming straight for her. She holds her hands up, they feel clunky and strange, to block it.

The memory fades away as the murmur disappears in a puff.

Gone.
