Her body was just too small. Verkr growled in frustration as yet another prey item slipped through her paws once more. She leaped forward snapping her jaws and catching nothing but open air between her teeth. The foal was a fearsome sight from the four paws that graced her lithe form to the bushy tail that she had been born with. Most fearsome of all though was the pelt that lay across her back, marking her for what she truly was...a monster of epic proportions. That would not mean anything though if she could not begin to hunt successfully all the time. The tiny foal still had a long ways to go. Seemingly abandoned at birth she had emerged from her basket last among her siblings and had fought tooth and nail to escape with her hide intact. It did not take her long to realize that she was out of her element. Instinct would have to guide her movements. The hunting instinct was failing her though.
Growling softly in frustration once more Verkr paused at a stream and glanced at her reflection before lapping at the water. Until she could sink her teeth into the warm flesh of her victims she would have to continue to assuage her thirst with regular infusions of water. She craved the salty tang of blood and the sensation of grinding her teeth around a giant hunk of flesh. Only then could the hunger that clawed at her stomach be quelled. From the length of time it was taking for her to succeed though Verkr was sure that the beast inside would grow impatient and rip free and kill her.
Surely there had to be a food source somewhere that was too slow to escape her jaws. Verkr peered more closely into the stream and caught glimpses of movement. Her stomach rebelled at the thought of dining on raw fish but what other choice did she have to tide her over. Cringing at her next actions the foal found herself charging through the shallow water trying to catch a specimen that would satiate the hunger licking at her stomach. Almost at the point of exhaustion did Verkr finally manage to sink her jaws into a rather impressive fish. Struggling with the burden of carrying a wriggling prey item clamped in her teeth that wished only to survive did she manage to stumble back onto the bank of the river. She dragged her prey too far from the water that it would not be able to flop back into the waters and began to examine the fish. Deciding to end the game of cat and mouse Verkr pawed at the fish before puncturing the body with her sharp claws effectively pinning it in place. Looking around once more the foal knelt down and began to nibble at the fish's belly. Its movements began to slow and finally subside as she dug in further with her teeth ripping eagerly at the tasty interior of the fish.
