Gebhuza walked with a small smile, taking in the sight of his daughter's pride. It felt good to think of it that way. His daughter's pride. It filled him with an immense amount of satisfaction to see that at least three of his cubs had become strong, independent adults and one had even become so well-respected that she was willingly followed by others. It was even more rewarding to see that some of the old pride's values had bled through to this one... it was not all gone, it would never be gone while those who remembered it remained.

"This is a good place. The pride will flourish here." He said quietly in his deep gravelly voice.

His eyes caught a subtle movement on the ground but he made no motion to acknowledge it. It was something small and very unlikely to be a threat but Gebhuza watched silently out of the corner of his eye, no outward changes betraying his interest.

------

The grass blades moved close to the lion's paws. Kuro was trying to be discreet but a few more seconds and he was going to be stepped on by the heavy-looking lion so he really had no choice but to move. It was rather intimidating to se a mass of heat in front of him, slowly approaching until it was towering the much smaller creature. At least the giant beast was distracted, Kuro thought to himself as he tried to make a quiet escape.

There were far too many lion and leopard scents in the area anyway. It was about time he made his way to a safer location.

The dark leopon had been tracking her father as quietly as she could through the trees of the pride. She was using his teachings to get closer to him. Oh how she hoped to be able to get the drop on the dark male. When he stopped she stopped hoping that she was high enough in the trees that he would not smell her. That's when she noticed a smaller creature. Was that a snake she saw near her father?

Carefully she began her descent from the tree tops until she reached the ground. Still she was prowling as she got just within range and then leapt at pair. She wasn't trying so much to startle the snake and more startle her father.

"Hello father." She said. Feeling like a cub again in his presence momentarily.

Gebhuza didn't startle though it was a close thing. He had not sensed his daughter's approach and had the birds around them not gone sudden and suspiciously quiet, he would not have noticed her at all. A prey beast would've had no chance to escape if his daughter used these skills during her hunts. He was already feeling proud of his cubs and this little show of stealth only further solidified the feeling.

"Leih. Perfect form." Gebhuza said in way of greeting, a small smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth. He said nothing about their little friend on the ground but his eyes pointed at the creature and there was slight tilt of his head that he was certain Leih wouldn't miss. He was quite certain the small thing was a snake and not something he considered edible but it wouldn't do to underestimate the reptile. Some were deadly poisonsous, after all. "How are you liking this place?"

-------

Kuro was not happy with the change in circumstances. Now he had not one but two giant masses of heat to worry about. He was lucky they were talking and really not paying much attention to their surroundings otherwise he'd be in trouble. He didn't like these big felines. He'd been told they preyed on snakes for no reason and that he had to stay away from them at all costs but this wasn't making it easy for him. Figuring this was his best moment to act, he moved a little further away and then hid behind a rock, curled in tight ball, hoping he wouldn't be noticed. Maybe they'd leave soon. He'd have to be extremely unlucky for them to move in his direction again, right?

The young snake sighed, very quietly, feeling safer in this new spot. Yes, they would probably leave soon, nothing to worry about.

"Thank you father. I was actually surprised you didn't notice me. I feared I was not being stealthy enough." She admitted. Her father had taught her everything she had known and then had taken it a bit further. Using her leopard side to be able to get into the trees and move about a bit easier. The jungle is where she honed much of her skills. Even on the plains she was still just as quiet and stealthy as she was amongst the shadows.

Giving her father a look that said she had noticed the small creature she gave a small gesture to it. She was curious but cautious. They were dangerous and it was best not to find if it could kill her of not. But she did want to at least know.

"Should we?" She asked, knowing he would know what she was talking about.

"You were perfectly silent. But I was watching the birds and the birds were watching you so I knew someone was coming." It pleased him beyond words to see that his daughter was all elegance and deadly grace. It meant he'd done his job as a father. After a quick nod to signal the end of their silent conversation, he raised his voice more than strictly necessary and his tone became somewhat lighter, a little less intimidating. "I would love to talk to you but I don't like the feeling of being eavesdropped."

The dark lion took a few steps towards the rock but made no movement to touch it or the creature there. Overall, he tried to appear as small and unassuming as possible - which was no small feat.

---

"I was not eavesdropping." The small creature uncoiled himself and slithered to the top of the rock, an edge of offense tainting his tone. "I was here before."

So much for staying out of sight. Red eyes took in the two creatures before him who looked too alike not to be family... you know, as if the female calling the male father hadn't been enough of a clue. Kuro was momentarily stunned, however, by how similar he looked to the big cats as all three of them had very dark coats with black stripes. The male, especially, was particularly confusing to look at... He even had red eyes of a similar shade to Kuro's.

Well at least her father approved of her methods. She could have accounted for the birds. Not that too many would be paying attention like her father was. When the snake came to light she was quite intrigued by the dark creature. So much like her father. And a snake! Just like the clan her father had belonged to back before.

"Well sorry for intruding." The female chuckled. "Father, I think you have a snake look alike."

"It seems I do..." Gebhuza said quietly but despite the lack of an exuberant reply, he looked pleasantly surprised. "The members of our former pride - and this new one as well - take smaller creatures as companions."

"As long as you don't attack any of us, you are quite welcomed here." Gebhuza had wanted a snake for a very long time and he couldn't deny that finding a reptile with matching scales made it all seem as if it they were meant to find each other and stay together. However, the last thing he wanted was to scare the snake off by being too pushy. Well, the last thing he wanted was actually to accidentally turn a potentially poisonous snake against the pride but this was a close second. "You can stay with me, if you want."

---

"I'm not a pet." The snake said at last without real heat. They seemed much friendlier that what he'd been led to believe, this lion and the strange half-lion - he almost asked about that, he really did, but it seemed a very rude to ask a stranger what they were. Food thieves and killers, the lot of them, his mother would've said. Still, the protection afforded by an entire pride of big cats was tempting. "What would I have to do?"

What an adorable little creature. Though her father was right, if the snake did not attack he was welcome. If he did... she would run it away. Though when it defended itself she tried to stifle a laugh and failed. Straightening herself out she responded, "I'm sure my sister will allow my father to just bring you in if you say you'd like to be his companion."

Looking at her father she could tell this was the companion he wanted. "My name is Leih'Lana. What is yours?"

"You don't have to do anything, really. But I can't deny being my companion might be a little... dangerous." He sent his daughter a wink. If the little reptile didn't want to be taken on mission though, he could see it as a fierce guardian of the den. Who would even consider messing with his cubs if he had an angry leopard mommy and a snake guarding them? "Are you poisonous?"

Poison could be useful during certain missions. It was also a risk, considering he was not yet familiar with the snake's temperament.

---

"Mmm... that soundss interesssting." The snake seemed to grow bolder as it left the rock and moved between the felines' paws. "I am though my venom is not very strong yet. My mother could drop an elephant in an instant... well, that's what she said anyway... My siblings didn't really believe her."

One could almost feel the reptile testing his boundaries and the big cats' friendliness as he tried to slither over Leih's front paws, red eyes watching her reaction keenly.

She was carefully still as the small creature slithered through her paws. This was going to be her father's companion and she did not want to harm it. "Please don't try to use your venom on me." She peered down at the creature and grinned. "My father is a good lion and a perfect companion." Trying to up sell her father.

Gebhuza smiled at first though he visibly tensed when the snake touched his daughter. Finding a suitable companion that complemented him even in looks wasn't easy but he wouldn't gamble any danger befalling one of his cubs in the small chance that he was reading the creature's intention wrong.

Leih's light tone put him somewhat at ease, but he was still uncomfortable with the close proximity until the snake moved towards him instead.

----

The snake could tell he was making the lion uneasy but he took it as a good sign that the female was very relaxed and neither seemed inclined to attack.

"I can kill a hare with a single bite but it takes a while. Maybe my venom will be stronger in the future." He admitted, slowly slithering around Gebhuza's paws.

"Kuro. That's my name." The snake finally offered and it felt like more than an introduction, something with a deeper meaning, something bigger.

She could see her father's tense position and she could see the ease in him as Kuro went to him instead. It would be best to leave the two to themselves and work it out. She was happy for her father, looked like he might get himself a familiar. Part of her a a bit jealous but she wasn't sure that a snake would be an appropriate companion for her. She liked her trees and liked to move fast too. She'd need something that could keep up with her.

"Kuro it is nice to meet you. I think though I will leave you two be." She gave a bow before taking off towards the trees again. She'd begin stalking some other prey from the tree tops. She would stay on the borders for now and then check in with her sister to see if there were any missions she needed done.

"Gebhuza. thats mine." The dark lion, looking far more amused by the interaction now that the snake had started slithering up his leg. He nodded towards his daughter, just a tiny little bit saddened that their interaction had been cut short.

"I'll see you later, Leih." Oh well, they lived in the same pride now so the two of them would have plenty of opportunities to get reaquainted. He turned to he snake - Kuro - again.

"I'll show you the pride. hen you can decide if you want to stay."

---

Kuro found the respectful nod from the female to be rather surprising, never having considered being on good terms with teh big felines.

"Nice to meet you." He said as he adjusted his body around the lion's neck. He was close the great beast's vital points but so could teh lion easiy bite the snake's head off i he so wished. Well, they had to start trusting each other slowly. "Alright. I'd like that."
