After the disbanding of Tuait'tekem they had become rogues. Their cubs had at least gotten to be in the pride until they were old enough to make the decision to leave of their own volition. It warmed her heart to know that they at least had good lives. Now here she was with her mate wandering around. She had a few days prior had gone and met a few Gods! Did she tell Desher about this encounter she couldn't remember. It wasn't as if she stuck by him like glue but she didn't wander too far from her tawny mate.
That's when she piped up, "Desher. We need to find a home."
Though she didn't mind being a rogue as she was one long before she met Desher and she had done fine but she missed the comfort of a home. She needed to feel that again. She wouldn't mind not being so cozy again but just in a place where she had the safety of others. Strength in numbers right?

He'd done his best after the Dawnwalkers faded into time like the sands where they lived. His cubs had grown and also drifted away. Desher couldn't blame them. Thankfully his mate had stuck by his side. The male had provided as best he could, but he knew that with her blindness a pride of some kind would be better for them both. But how could he ask her to leave? How could he leave? The desert was his home.
The choice was made slightly easier, when Lani spoke up about needing a new home. "What kind of home?" She knew he'd do his best to supply whatever she asked for. Despite not wanting to leave, another pride had moved in. It really wasn't theirs anymore unless they joined that one. Where should they go? That was the problem he brooded over most. He knew she could take care of herself, but she'd be relying on his eyes while they traveled through unknown territory. It was going to be a heavy burden.

"Maybe another pride with sand." She said as thought about it a little. Although she would like to stay here, she wanted sand with something else. "Just... not so much of it. I miss our old pride and I think a new location would be better. But I like the sand. Feels good between my paws." Sand felt good and she was able to see in it better now as she had lived there for so long.
She had let Desher become somewhat of her crutch. Although she could move about on her own and was quite good with her senses she still was cautious about new places. Not knowing about whether or not the area was going to be dangerous she left that up to her mate. She could fend for herself but a pride would benefit them both, especially for her. It would mean that she would have an entire pride looking out for her and not putting so much strain on the male.

Desher brooded silently. There weren't many prides in the sands that he knew of. Granted he didn't get out of the desert much. Since the sands here weren't suitable anymore, that meant they had to seek sands elsewhere; which meant they'd have to travel. He didn't relish the thought of an extended trip, but it couldn't be helped in this case.
The tan male mulled over her words a bit. "So you want sand, but not as much sand as a desert, plus something else." He looked over at his dark mate with tolerant amusement. "Mind telling me what this something else is dear?" It'd be hard to pinpoint her perfect spot without knowing her ideal criteria. He hoped she had something in mind. Already he was trying to figure out the trip in his mind.

Maybe she shouldn't have been so vague. What would her ideal place be. She had been to the ocean before. There was sand there. Her first time ever there... she banished the thought. Sand, ocean, trees, and plains. all places she had been before. She'd like the ocean again. Although it would throw off her senses by flooding them with the roar it made it would be a learning experience.
"How about beaches. It has sand and something else." She chuckled padding over to her mate and placing her head against his chest. He couldn't read her mind, which was too bad. "I know its going to be a long walk. I can handle it." If that was what he was worried about she could make the trip.

Desher had wandered a time due to disease infecting the pride and the then ruler had sent them away for their own safety. The group had eventually found it's way back to the pride. During that time he'd seen some places, but his heart had always belonged to the desert. It had been such a long time ago, and he probed the fuzzy memories to see if he'd encountered anything that might suit. Unfortunately he'd never seen the ocean.
He glanced at his mate slightly confused. His eyes glanced toward the nearest waterhole. They called the edges of those places "beaches", but somehow he didn't think she was talking about that. "Alright if that's what you want. I'll do my best to find it." Sand and something else. Not much to go on. It was a challenge. "I know you can. Will you be ok leaving behind the children?" They might come looking for them some day. If they left they'd probably never meet up again. He purred deeply for her as she came up for a cuddle.

The female tried to dig up memories of the ocean. "I think I might be able to lead us in the direction of the ocean. The desert was their home. To leave it would hurt but they needed to leave the new pride's lands. Her children. She thought of them and their lives. They were old enough probably even having their own mates at this point. She nodded, although a bit sad at the thought.
"I am sure they will be ok. They must have their own lives by now. I'm sure we will see them again one day. Even in passing." The female purred, the sound like a gentle rumble. "Maybe we can have cubs again someday." Someday when they were not wandering about.

Although she couldn't see it, he cast an ironic look toward his mate. While he had confidence in Lani's abilities, the great distances they might need to cover posed some problem. The chances were great that they'd need to go through areas she wasn't familiar with. It'd be like the blind leading the dumb! It would put her in greater risk than he was willing to allow.
"While I appreciate the offer Lani, how about a verbal description?" Desher gave her a few rasps of his tongue over her shoulders in the hopes of not making her mad at him. "I'd like another litter. Maybe a boy or two this time?" He chuckled remembering his surprise at having 7 girls. It hadn't matter they were all girls, or some developed blindness like their mother. He'd loved each and every one. "I'm sure they are doing well and fine. It's the nature of cubs to leave the nest isn't it?"

The night colored female chuckled at her mate. Good to know he'd always look out for her. Verbal description. "Well, let's see. Um..." She was still trying to remember where it was. "Its that way." Pointing in the general direction of where she remembered ocean and sand. That he didn't trust her to lead them at least a little bit of the way stung but he was just being a good mate.
A boy or two would have been great really. "That would be good. Maybe not so many this time." He was not the one who was going to swell with cubs and have to feel them kicking around inside of him. She remembered how painful it had been to carry so many squirming cubs inside of her. Grateful was the word she would use for her cubs. Grateful to have had them. "It is the nature of all things to want to create a life for themselves."

He knew he'd annoyed her at least a little bit. Desher knew he'd have to make up it up along the way. He simply didn't want his mate falling down the edge of a cliff into a river full of crocs. Not his idea of a good day. In ground she knew well though, he had no doubt about her ability to get around without help. In fact he counted on it.
"Alright. Let me gather a few items and we'll be on our way. Is there anything you want me to grab for you?" He glanced around their den. Despite living here for many years, he didn't think they had acquired much since the cubs had left. It was amazing how simple it really was. All he needed was a shove in the right direction.
"Whatever you decide to give me would be great." He would be happy with any cubs. Even if it was another litter of all girls.

Things they might need? "No, I think we will be ok. The less we travel with the better. We can get food and water on the way." She was somewhat sure they could find water, there were probably watering holes along the way there. Or at least small shallows. The items she had acquired from their old pride were enough for her. With her mate by her side she felt glad to have found the male so many years prior when she had been lost in the sands.
"On our way to our new home. I'm sure we will run into some interesting things. I'll try not to get too lost or worry you to much. I'll also be careful for anything that could harm me." Her smile reaching from eye to eye.
