Ashrisen
Just past sunrise finds Ashrisen sitting near the rock walls edging the sides of camp, performing what has become her usual morning routine of watching the camp and it's inhabitants interact. Most of her life had been just her and her mother, and after that it had been a strange mix of overcrowded and isolated in small dingy boxes made from hard silver webs. This atmosphere of friendliness and community was still a bit foreign to her. Sometimes she still tensed up a bit too much where voices were raised and she mostly kept to herself as her clanmates shared tongues in the late noon.
Her life had taken such an unexpected turn. A few really, but being taken in by ThunderClan has been a welcome change in her life, even if she is still a bit awkward and jittery with many of her clanmates.
Of course, they had been kind and patient with her as she recovered and acclimated, and in turn she has dedicated herself to this Clan. Ashrisen hasn't a clue what she'd done to make Loststar think she was ripe mentor material, but here she was, assigned to Kisspaw just the day before.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to have a true ThunderClan warrior teach the young tom? And she internally cringed a bit at the "true warrior" thought. That was part of her problem. It's not that she expected to be run out of the camp or turned on, but she still hadn't really settled into this new role in life. The new name still didn't register as immediately as it should. She was a Thunderclan warrior in name, but her spirit didn't feel it yet. It just didn't quite feel real. After the fire, something like this just felt too good to be true. It had been some moons since the fire but if the smoke sting in her nostrils every few nights and the guilt that tried to choke her in the wee hours of the night was anything to go by, she hadn't really moved past the fire yet.
Enough of that though. She'd been given a responsibility to mold this kit into a warrior and she was going to do everything she could to do right by him.
Shaking herself off, Ashrisen forced herself to break away from the edges of camp and walk straight to the apprentice's den. She was still trying to shake old habits. She need not be cautious, she was among her Clan.
Poking her head in, she easily caught sight of Kisspaw and his littermates, smears of grey, black, and white. Kisspaw and Rustpaw stood out the most to her, their orange a bright splash of color on otherwise plain pelts.
A frown curled her maw as she consider how best to go about this. She froze for a second, unsure as to how she was supposed to go about this and what was proper. Not just waking her new charge, but teaching him. The weight of this new responsibility was only now beginning to sink in.
Taking a deep breath, she decided that was enough of that.
"Kisspaw, wake up," she said in an moderate tone, leaning above his nest. She reached out a paw and only hesitated a little before nudging him a bit. "Yime to get up and greet the day!" She tried using the greeting she used to give her mother most days, mustering some enthusiasm into her voice, but the phrase didn't make her feel much better about this whole ordeal.
Avid_RPer1 got a bit long winded with the set up there, sorry ; w;

KissPaw
The young apprentice had no issue adjusting to the somewhat more spacious apprentice den. Sure, there were still the bodies of his many siblings around, but there was more space to stretch out his legs if he wanted. Aside from that, it was an exciting time as they continued on their paths to become fully fledged ThunderClan warriors like their mother and father, so it was kind of nice to still have the familiar scents and shapes of his brothers and sisters around, at least while they rested. It made for easy recounting of their respective days, or enthusing about their training, or grumbling over some lesson or method taught by the mentors assigned to them. The gray and orange tom had stayed up a little late quietly chatting with a sibling before sleep took his conversational partner away, and even then he lay awake listening to the sounds of his dozing or sleeping siblings around him. Kisspaw was so ready, so thrilled to start learning! He didn't really know much about his mentor other than her name. Well, he'd just have to get to know her! This excitement, however, meant little in the way of deep, restful sleep and the sunrise waits for no sleepy apprentices, for sure.
It took a few moments to register that his name had been spoken aloud. Any indication of wakeful started with a little twitch of his ears, turning one to better hear for the source of the noise. Was it a brother or sister? What did they want? What time was it? The light nudging of a paw did more to shake the sleep from his system. Felt too big be one of his siblings. Pushing himself into a sitting position, groggily blinking his mix-matched eyes, Kisspaw shook himself as he rose to his paws. A drowsy smile drew at the corners of his mouth as he stretched, his eyes focusing finally on the source of his awakening. That sounded like a nice greeting, though whether he caught the attempted enthusiasm or if he had missed it entirely due to still being in the process of waking up more fully or through tact, it wasn't certain. "G'morning!" His voice was still on the softer end, lest he wake any of the other resting apprentices before they absolutely needed to. "Ashrisen? What are we doing first today?" Carefully extricating himself from his nest and any limbs of sleeping fellow apprentices that may have sprawled his way in the night, the young tom drew nearer to his new mentor and to the entrance to the apprentice den. The cool morning breeze made him aware of how some pieces of his fur were sticking out at odd angles from sleeping. Oops! Running a paw over his face and briefly grooming his chest into a somewhat more presentable way of laying, he shot an apologetic smile towards Ashrisen. "Sorry," He murmured before turning his head to hide a yawn. Hoo! Perhaps he should have tried harder to get to sleep at a decent hour. Breakfast would probably help, but a nugget of excited, anxious energy was settling into his belly, so if a trip to the fresh kill pile wasn't the first order of business, he'd probably live.
Taki-di Oh, it's fine! I don't mind length. Gives me plenty to work from and it's fun to see character insight! heart I just hope I can shake the cobwebs off of my ability to RP cats, since I've mostly been doing actual people...or dragons. |D;

Ashrisen
Okay, good, good, Kisspaw was awake and even better, he was excited for what Ashrisen had planned. Wait, no, maybe excited was bad, she didn't have much of a plan. What if it was disappointing? Stars above, she was thinking herself into a corner here. Now is the time for doing! If she'd wanted to think this out better, well, it was too late now.
Ashrisen found herself smiling at the young tom's embarrassment, some of the tension and nervousness easing form her.
"Well, as a new apprentice, I think it's high time you get to see the territory you live on," she replied. Ashrisen was pretty dang sure that kits were kept inside camp, so this would be his first trip out of the safety of home. Something about this train of thought was bringing her nerves back in the worst kind of way. Nodding towards the camp entrance, she began padding away. "Come along then, time for a grand tour!"
She'd make darn sure it was a great tour. First up towards the WindClan border then down to the lake shore and up across by ShadowClan. That would give her plenty of time to get a feel for who Kisspaw was and even snag some freshkill along the way.
As they left camp, Ashrisen had to pause to take a deep, steadying breath. She could do this. After the brief pause, she perked up, smiling a bright smile at Kisspaw as they began weaving through the foliage.
