Mercy whistled as he walked, weaving in and out of the trees with a certain spring in his step. It was quite the lovely day, if he did say so himself. He had crushed the skull in of a squirrel this morning on his way to get a drink and then smeared the remains across the path with a certain amount of joy. More importantly, though, he had managed to get news that his dalliance with that interesting mare from a few months back had resulted in foals. Offspring! What a thought. Maybe one day he'd pay that mare another visit and see if his seed had sprung true. 'If not, well...' he thought with a grin.

It was a good day. There was only way it could get better, and Mercy was already working on that. He was long overdue for a new game and now he just had to find his player two.

Such a beautiful day called the elegant Kuwanyauma out from her home and into the sky. She flew in hopes of meeting another of the land and making another friend. There had been warnings that not all were friends but of course there was always that possibility that perhaps they weren't given a fair chance to be a friend. She had to see for herself. It took her some time but finally she landed in the forest when she thought there was a catch of movement in her search. Sure enough there seemed to be a very interesting looking Soq moving along to himself. Immediately she had to correct the fact that he seemed completely alone. No one should be such. A bright smile was offered as she slowly approached his moving figure. "Hello?" After all the kind mare did not wish to startle him.

Mercy stuttered to a halt when he heard a soft, sweet voice call out to him. It was his lucky day it seems, he thought as he turned toward the voice. Definitely my lucky day, he thought as he took in the sight of the delicate looking mare with the most adorable stars in her mane. Delicate and stupid, he thought. So, so stupid. The pelt on his back should have been a clear sign for others to stay away, and he had anticipated needing to corner some dull little thing at the watering hole but this was so much better.

He grinned as he sauntered toward the newcomer, showing just a bit too much teeth to be truly welcoming. "Why hello there, pidgeon," he drawled as he walked around her, slow and deliberate. Didn't want to scare her away.

Yet.

It was more than apparent that the blue mare was completely ignorant of the situation that had been set upon her with her beaming smile given. The nickname he had used was a strange one but she chalked it up to being a custom of this particular stallion's heritage, ignoring it for the moment. "It is nice to meet you." She bowed her head in respect to the approaching male as her wings closed tight against her back. Her head lifted up as her bright golden gaze rested on his.. faces? Never before had she ever seen a Soq like this one. "My name is Kuwanyauma and I am fairly new to these lands. I was wondering if I may ask your name, Sir?" Meeting this one would certainly help her get to know the other types of soquili that were around since this was her very first encounter of this kind. Such a special occasion earned her greatest effort to be pleasant and warm.

"So polite," Mercy mused allowed, his voice low, teasing, with an edge of the incoming danger that was swiftly closing in on the mare. "Your parents must have raised you up all right and proper," he said, continuing his slow walk around the mare, a vulture circling his prey. "My name is Mercy, little pidgeon. You'll do right to remember that. It might come in handy later on." He brushed his flank against her wings deliberately, enjoying the soft feathers against his skin. He did love feathers--they had always held a special place in his heart.

Well. What heart he had left anyway.

"You have very pretty wings," he said, complimenting them as though he was speaking about a particularly nice blanket or an attractive vase. "Good color and soft as a newborn foal. I bet you are quick, yes? A fast little pidgeon flying far, far away from home."

He was smiling the entire time he spoke, teeth bared and his glee undisguised.

What a curious but kind name. A gentle dip of her head as she gave a nod of agreement to committing the name. "Thank you Sir Mercy." However he had done the one thing that startled the mare for the first time since their encounter.

From moment her wings had been touched, it was as if her entire body had brushed against pure electricity and ran through every hair. The entire form of the mare physically jumped up in the air beyond her control and all the stars in her mane and tail clicked together from the sudden movement. She purposely edged back a little from him, feathers a little more ruffled as she fought to regain her composure. That sweet voice was now full of a distinct note of concern and worry, "Oh pardon me, Sir Mercy! I did not mean to take up too much of your space and get in your way. I'm sorry." Even in this situation she was trying her best to make a good appearance to what seemed to be an awfully smiley Soq.

At his compliment and his statement she gave a simple dip of her head once more. "Thank you. I find your horns to be quite impressive." The touch of her wings was enough to cause her tone to be just a tad more nervous than previously heard. At his question of her speed she blinked and nodded. "Why yes, I suppose I am fast. You have a very keen eye, Sir. I am far from home, but it has been a pleasant journey. May I ask if you are from these lands, Sir Mercy?"

While she couldn't explain it, for whatever reason, that toothy grin of his seemed to be taking a contrary meaning than her initial assessment. While she couldn't place what that definition might be, she was starting to feel as though it did not mean the same for him to smile as it did for her. Perhaps her nerves were too high after the wings were touched.

Sir Mercy. Oh, this one would be so much fun, Mercy thought. His grin only widened when the little mare jumped at this barely brushing touch, the little thing scurrying back like the scared little mouse she was. In response, he only moved closer, careful not to touch her again but still close enough to make his presence unsettling.

He tipped his head at her, mockingly mimicking her own head bobs and silly courtesies. He dipped his head low enough that the tips of his antlers crept perilously close to the soft, squishy eyes of the mare. "And I thank you, little pigeon. I am glad that you noticed. The are quite useful for...many things." Like poking lots of little bitty holes into lots of little bitty things, he thought.

"I am from...around. A little bit here and a little bit there," he said, tilting his head this way and that way. "A little bird like you should be careful so far from home. You never know what kinds of...unsavory characters you might meet." Or have already met, he thought, his bright blue eyes gleaming at the irony. "But, since you are new to this area, I have a great idea of how you can see lots of the land very very quickly." His grin grew again, creepy and wide and predatory.

"Would you like to play a game with me?"

Now with the male so close, her right hoof stepped back as if preparing to back up. Oh these were definitely not her nerves making her jittery that was certain. However she did not want to stop trying to befriend this one even if he was a little.. okay not little.. very intense. She reminded herself to not be so judgmental on others. After all, everyone deserved a fair chance.

However those horns coming so close caused her golden eyes to widen in concern, Now she took another step back to try and give a little more breathing room and to protect her eyesight from the hazard before them. He was certainly not familiar with personal space it seemed. "Many have spoken of unpleasant souls that roam but.." She did her best to smile sweetly. "I truly believe everyone should be given a chance. No one is born cruel and I believe everyone should have a friend." Her integrity and hope rang in each word. Her high dreams and ideals had placed her in quite the situation.

"That is very kind of you Sir Mercy." Despite the incredibly off putting smiles he wore, she kept that gratitude and sweet nature as if she were using it as a shield from the fear that was looming over her heart, no matter how fast it threatened to grow with each toothy flash. "I would love to have an opportunity to see more and play a game but are you sure I have not kept you from your travels? I do not wish to impose or keep you from wherever you were heading."

"Welllll," Mercy said, his voice deceptively mild as he took in the little pigeon's words. "Maybe no one is born cruel...but there are those who are made so." Like with a convenient splatter of corpse powder. He hummed to himself for a moment, still casually infringing on the mare's space, amusing himself as she took small polite steps back in an attempt not to offend. "Or those who choose so." Mercy really had no opinion either way of such thoughts--his own cursing had long blurred his memories of anytime Before. He recalled only the barest hints of his life before his cursing, flashes of images and senses of deja vu. Perhaps he had once been a naive little herbivore like this or perhaps the cursing had only magnified his internal savagery. Perhaps perhaps perhaps.

"Oh, no. It is no bother at all for us to play a game. In fact, you'd be saving me the trouble of finding another...companion." A look of amusement flashed across his face at his choice of words, tinged with the edge of malice. "I was actually on my way to find someone to play with when you so helpfully called out to me. Won't you oblige this poor, soul? It's been so long since I've had someone to play with." Mercy's words dripped with honey, saccharinely sweet and beseeching and knew that the mare would not refuse him.

"I promise that it'll be loads of fun." For me, anyway.

It was clear that Kuwanyauma was lost by his words as innocent golden eyes watched him with a thousand questions deterred from spilling out between blinks. It sounded as if there was a story this Soq had as well. "Why would one choose to be cruel?" It was lost on the mare the notion that there was true evil in the world. The more he moved into her space, another step would be taken back to accommodate him. 'How do I manage to keep being in his way?' she quietly wondered in her mind but thought no deeper into the matter. Never once did it occur to her that he was doing this on purpose. That could never be the case.

"Another companion? Did you play with others?" While she kept the thousands of questions she wanted to ask from spilling over, there were just a few she slipped in here and there. At his question the blue mare couldn't help but to give a supportive smile. "I would be happy to help you any way that I can, Sir Mercy. What is this game you like to play? What do I have to do to?"

"Oh, I don't know," Mercy drawled, amusement evident in his voice. "For fun, perhaps? Amusement, enjoyment, ecstasy, power? Cruel or kind, little pigeon, everyone does what they do for fun." He bared his teeth, his voice stressing the last word and it came out as a menacing hiss.

"But, our game, little pigeon. The Game. I have played it with many others, you see," he said, nodding, his tone and posture almost magnanimous. "And I always enjoy myself. The rules are quite simple, little pigeon." Mercy scurried closer to her, looking at her unblinkingly in the soft, trusting orange eyes, assessing. His own eyes contrasted, the bright cerulean burning cold and vicious, a contrast to his flippant tone. "It's just a game of Hide and Seek, little pigeon. You hide and I seek," he explained, tilting his head. He started circling her again, herding her further away from from the main path as he spoke. He had been pushing her further and further into the deeper, darker parts of the forest as they had been speaking, the brightly lit path they had met on long having disappeared between thick brush and the evergreen trees. Only the occasional streaks of sunlight reached the ground, the thick leaves and needles of the flourishing trees blocking the radiant sun from their view and coincidentally, making it almost impossible for the mare to fly straight up and away quickly.

Mercy had been playing this game for a long time.

The underbrush had grown dense and the crunch of dried leaves and dead branches seem to be louder than before. "The rules are simple. You win: you get to go home. I win and well," he said, pausing and his grin widened, his pearly white teeth shining in a clear threat. "Well," he repeated, his voice dark and hungry and so very excited, "I get to tear your throat out with my teeth. Sound fair?"

Finally it had sunk in the situation she was in when he made the comment of such things being fun. Mercy would see the world crash around Kuwanyauma as her face dropped and drained of color. Now she saw clearly what kind of Soq was before her and the type of enjoyment that he took in. A chill ran down her spine and her ears fell backwards. Silence was her initial reaction but that gaze did not hold fear. It was sadness and sorrow as she looked upon him. The mare pitied this soul. How had he come to enjoy such darkness? If he watched closely enough he would even see her lips mouth the words, 'I'm sorry' but no sound came from her throat. Before her was pony of shadow that she didn't know how to help or save. There was even doubt that he wanted such assistance. After all, didn't he just call this fun?

All her polite backstepping finally came back to bite her as her gaze shifted around their surroundings. Had he purposely pushed her into a darker scene where her blue pelt would stand out so brightly? Hide N Seek here? It was game she could not win with him. However he would see her wings were fast against her back. Already she understood that flying among this much debris was pointless. He was a clever predator and in a way she could even find admiration for how thoroughly he had thought this out, even if he intended something so dastardly.

Not once did she move her actual head after his claim to her throat was heard. Rather than stepping backwards to give him room, now Ku was stepping backwards to give herself more room to move around or at least as best as she could could. There was only so much more space between trees as it were. "Sir Mercy, this is not quite the game I had in mind. Might I ask that instead of my throat, you take from something less vital for life please?" It never hurt to ask right? The winged mare would not beg for her life, or let him have her fear. All she would give him was her sorrow and despite how terribly worried she was, she remained polite and full of her manners. The whole she desperately tried to take in their surroundings. Perhaps being new and traveling to unfamiliar lands was not as safe as she thought.

Mercy laughed, his chest heaving and he could almost feel tears in his eyes at her words. This was the greatest fun he had in the longest time; it really was a lucky day to chance upon not only upon a new playmate but one who was just so amusing. Most of his playmates simply turned tail and started running. It was just so predictable and predictable was boring. But this one, oh this one...

"Still so polite, little pigeon. 'Not the game I had in mind,'" he mocked, pitching his voice in a poor facsimile of hers while stalking around her. He backed a few steps back to give some space, pacing himself back and forth and blocking the direction back to the clear forest path. It was no fun if the game ended so quickly; he needed to make sure she had space to make it entertaining for him. "But I'm not unfair. Perhaps you deserve a reward for being so much fun today," Mercy mused, humming a little bit as he bobbed his head back and forth in thought.

"How about this then, pigeon? If I win, I'll rip out those pretty little wings of yours instead. I do love adding feathers to my collection and blue is my color, after all," he said, dipping his head to motion at the string of trophies that he kept tied to his antlers. "Or since you were admiring my antlers earlier, maybe I'll gore out those bright, vapid eyes of yours instead. I thought about it earlier, you know, but I thought it'd be rude to start without at least telling you the rules." .

"So what will it be," he finished, his tone eager and bloodthirsty. "Your wings...or your eyes? Better make up your mind, because if you take too long, maybe I'll just take both."

"To take my wings is to take my life." Even while standing before such a predator who took joy in her plea she was an honest mare. The solemn tone was one that showed she spoke with truth. No matter what happened she would keep her integrity to the bitter end. "Given those options I ask my eyes should you win."

"Thank you for giving me a choice and for not harming me earlier when you could have Sir Mercy." She took in a very deep breath while her muscles tensed up as if she were bracing for great action. However, her head finally turned away as her neck pulled back. One would think she were grooming or scratching an itch at her side. However, a pained groan resounded loudly as she plucked one of her lowest hanging feathers. Tears threatened to spill over as she pulled her head back and between her teeth was a blue feather. Slowly she walked up to Mercy and rested it at his hoof. Quickly the mare trotted backward to return the space between them. "A gift of gratitude." Her pained tone explained.

The mare looked this way and that before back to him. "How long must I hide for the game to be over Sir Mercy?" Despite knowing her odds and the stakes at play she still was holding fast to her word. There was an agreement given to this little game of his and she had to go through with it even if her frown showed how little she truly wanted to play. A word was her bond though. "How long will you give me to find somewhere to hide? I'm sorry for all the questions Sir Mercy, but I do not wish to cheat."
