The Flock was home to the harpies and their male slaves. Love and taking a mate for life was considered taboo. Females of the flock were those of power and the males were there to spread the genes. Iris-Raven was the result of a wind stallion that had been captured by a beautiful female harpy. He never saw his father, nor his siblings, after he has grown from his basket. He always wanted to play with the other foals, but felt uneasy since he was that of the male variety.

Inugami slipped quietly amongst the ferns, her purposely muddied pelt camouflaging her from prying eyes. A soft slip of cloth rested across her eyes, hiding her fiery gaze but allowing enough light for her to see where she was going.
To her right, she saw a pair of soquili, and she would have slipped past them as she had passed all others this day, if the darker of the two had not spoken. She stilled, ears tipped forward to catch the sound of his familiar tones. Could it be...?
She dropped into a crouch and slid forward, tracing the stallion's red stripes with her eyes, the tribals forming a distinct pattern she knew. In her mind's eye, he bore the scars of her passing and carried a limp, and the vision followed her in her sleep and filled her with nothing but shame. But the figure she saw before her now was whole, if not a little older, and as immaculate as the day that had first met.
How long she waited she knew not, but eventually the mare left--I'll be right back; I'm only going to get us something to eat, she'd said, running so close that Inu saw her talons glimmer in the afternoon light, and she feared she'd be found, but the mare rushed on, and Inu was left alone with the figure of her dreams and her nightmares.
She stood, shaking the blindfold out of her eyes, and stepped forward. Her voice was soft, but carried clearly, "Raven... is that you?"

Raven was tired of having to be watched by the older mares, but he had to listen since it was part of the laws. He gave a sigh as his watcher left to get some food for them. "Finally she leaves..." He muttered under his breath. His stretch out his legs then jumped slightly at the voice. It was familiar, but not at the same time. "Is that you, Inu?" He said as the voice carried off to the memories of when he was younger.

Inugami released the breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She feared he wouldn't recognize her or, if he did, that he would hate her. Neither seemed to be the case; still, she approached cautiously, searching for signs of his rejection with every step she took.
She stopped when she was a few lengths short of reaching him. She drank in his dark form, glad to see he was still taken care of well, and grew suddenly conscious of the dirty state of her own pelt.
"It's been a while," she finally said. The somber mood was broken when she laughed, as she realized the obviousness of her statement.
