Welcome to the Pokémon Ranger's headquarters stationed in Nix City. We specialize in teaching trainers how to survive in the harshest climates the Kimchi Region has to offer. Here in the Nix we show trainers everything they need to know about forest survival. We will teach you everything from how to find water to identifying different kinds of plants. We also offer escorts to those who cannot afford our classes. We are located on the outskirts of the city close to the cliffs. This base serves as both a safe house and emergency treatment center for those who need it. We are dedicated to making sure that both trainers and Pokémon live happy and healthy on their adventures. For emergency information please contact your nearest ranger and we will do what we can.

The small, unassuming house in front of Laram and his team held a new life for the trainer. He just didn't know it yet. A small banner read "Pokemon Rangers". It peaked his interest too much to pass up. As he approached the building, a woman in a reflective vest burst out the door and ran off in a seemingly random direction. Laram watched her go, but shrugged it off. His Froakie turned invisible and Zeus flew up in to the sky. He didn't like cramped spaces where he couldn't fly freely. Jack simply stuck by his trainer with a dull look in his eyes. Laram opened the door and stepped inside. The inside seemed a little more chill than what the woman let on. There were three men, and two women inside, lounging around."Hello?"
"Hello there. How can the rangers help you?"The older of the two women approached Laram and shook his hand without asking. He was weirded out a little, but mentally shrugged it off. After she shook his hand she reached down and patted Jack between his ears. He smiled at her and returned the favor on her outstretched arm."Sorry. We were just passing through and this building looked interesting. We didn't mean to intrude if you're busy."The woman smiled before answering."That's quite alright. We enjoy meeting new people. I'm Trish. That's Megan over there. The boys don't matter much."Trish winked at Laram as she mentioned the men behind her. In reality, Trish was only a few years older than Laram, but from the looks of things, she was the mother goose figure of the group. She seemed nice enough."Well I'm Laram, this is Jack and THIS is Shadow."Laram pushed the invisible frog forward with his foot. The shock of the action caused the amphibian to lose his concentration, and he became visible again. The daggers he shot Laram through his eyes could have cut diamonds. Trish chuckled and bent down to the Froakie's level."It's a pleasure to meet you Shadow."She shook the Froakie's hand and stood back up to address Laram."Well it's a pleasure to meet you all. Is there something I can do for you?"Laram adopted a sheepish look before answering."Well, actually. Is there any sort of work to do around here? We're sort of broke."Trish laughed and spoke again."Well actually. Now that you mention it...."
"We have a request that came in today. Lisa just left on it. You might have seen her."Laram thought of the girl that he had just seen a couple of minutes ago. She looked in a hurry before. He now realized why."Yeah, we saw her. It looked important.""Oh. It is. Today we received word that a little girl has been missing for a couple of days now. Lisa set off to search the town. Megan and I were going to go look for her in the forest. But I want to see you in action. What do you say? Want to rescue a cute little damsel in distress?"Laram looked at his team. Of course he wanted to help. Little kids in trouble hit a little close to home for him. He nodded to his Froakie and Bunnelby who nodded back. They were on board."We're in. Although I don't know my way around. I haven't been in this region long." "Then I'll lead you to where we're going. Come on. We don't have too much longer before the sun goes down."
Laram followed Trish out the front door and away from town. Megan followed them out the door and ran on ahead. Laram understood. Time was of the essence in a lost child case. She had already been gone for two days. That was a long time to be missing. Laram whistled to the sky and waited for Zeus to land on his shoulder."We're looking for a little girl, she has been missing for two days now. I'm sure you saw the forest off in the distance. Head there first and start looking. We'll join you when we can."The Rufflet nodded his agreement and took to the skies again. He had the same upbringing Laram did. They both had a strong sense of justice, and when it came to children, that feeling was ramped up to an eleven."Can you run?""Yep."So they took off at a quick jog. It wasn't a breakneck speed, but fast enough to make Laram's breathing labored. Soon the edge of the forest came into view. They were large, sturdy trees; just like the ones in Foretree City, where he was born. It took another ten minute jog before they approached the first line of trees to what Laram learned was called the Rowling Forest."Keep your wits about you. The woods are a dangerous place at night."The sun was setting just as they entered the trees. Laram couldn't help but wonder what she meant by that.

Laram was abruptly awoken by cold water directly in his face. After the trainer had been accepted into the Ranger's Guild, he promptly found his "crappy cot" and immediately fallen asleep. But no longer. He jerked upright and pulled his knife from its' sheathe. Only, there was no danger, just all the guys standing over his bed laughing. Wiping the moisture from his face, he glared at them."What the heck guys?!?""What was that, new meat? I don't think that's any way to speak to your superiors."The most annoying looking one of the three spoke, jeering at Laram like some school yard punk. It was painfully obvious that he was the "ringleader" of the group. The trainer could sense the future problems he would have with these three, but he didn't want to deal with it at the moment. He jumped out of bed as quick as he could and stood inches away from the group, threateningly. They jerked back in surprise and the trainer smirked and walked past them.
He found Lisa sitting at the table, reading the paper and he approached her."Lisa right?"The young woman looked up from her paper, and Laram could now see the glasses on her face. She pushed them further up her nose before responding. "Yes. That's me. Laram right? Trish told me about you after I got back in last night. You were already asleep, otherwise I would have introduced myself then.""Yeah, I'm Laram. It's nice to meet you. Don't worry about it. I would have been too tired to make a proper greeting."Laram looked back towards his bed to see what his Pokemon were doing. What he saw angered him to his core. The three guys had surrounded his team and were poking at them with metal rods that looked like pokers. He clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. It was one thing to mess with him. But they were not going to do the same to his Pokemon."Excuse me for one second."Laram stormed over towards them, but didn't even get the chance to do anything. At that moment, Shadow, Jack and Thorn, all retaliated.
Jack leaped towards his assailant and kicked him with both his feet. Thorn lashed out with a vine, pulled his close, then touched him on the face with his paw. Once he did, thick green vines sprouted from the point of contact and wrapped him up completely. Shadow sliced out with his knife and cut the poker in half. Then reaching back, formed a ball of water in his hand and slammed it into his harasser's chest. Simultaneously, the trio fell backwards and landed on the ground, grunting. Laram came and stood in between them and his team."We'll leave it at that for today. But mess with us again..."Laram paused and leaned forward menacingly."Next time, I will hurt you. All of you."Laram motioned for his team to follow and they exited the house. The sun was shining, and Laram could feel it start to dry his clothes. Trish and Megan were sitting next to a fire pit out front, cooking food."Good morning Lara...What happened to you?"Laram sighed and glanced back over his shoulder."Nothing I can't handle. Say, do you know of any work around town? I could use a little more cash.""As a matter of fact, here's your share for the job we did last night."Trish pulled money out of her pocket, and Laram accepted it gratefully. Fifteen hundred was a good amount. Laram marveled at how easy it was to make money in the Kimchi Region. It was stupid easy, but he wasn't going to complain. He had barely put in any time or effort, and he had already made so much in just four days.
"Unfortunately, we don't have any jobs or requests today. But you can check out Techmech street. The notice board there usually has something."Laram scratched his head sheepishly."Let's assume I don't know where that is. Which way should I go?"Trish chuckled, and flipped what Laram now saw was toast."Megan can show you around today.""Wait. What? Why?" "We gotta help out our junior ranger don't we? That's our job."Trish smiled towards the girl, but it was one of those, "do it or I'll kill you" smiles. Megan sighed, but conceded. Snatching a piece of toast from the skillet over the fire, she put it in her mouth and began to chew."Alright, follow me."
"I see you have made a new friend. So, how did today go?"Laram looked up from the ground. He realized he had his head hung and it looked like he had a bad day. He was only tired however. The day's events had exhausted him."It went okay. We helped some old man find his stuff, and he paid us. That second job though..."Laram rubbed his side as he spoke. The Electabuzz's abuse had left him very bruised. He wondered if a rib had broken."It was at the abandoned factory, and we were attacked by an Electabuzz. Everyone made it out okay, but I took some punishment."Trish's eyes went wide, and a look of shock adorned her face."You're lucky that's all that happened. Electabuzz are notoriously violent. But I'm sure you will understand some day." She trailed off as she looked at Laram's new teammate. Laram didn't really understand why. So he asked."What do you mean? How will I understand? Are Electabuzz common around here?""No silly. I mean Elekid is going to evolve into one, of course."Now it was Laram's turn to be surprised. He looked back and forth between Trish and Thor, who both were simply nodding in agreement.
"Evolve? What's that?""What do you mean, 'What's that?'? Pokemon evolution. Every single member of your team can evolve."Laram was shocked. This was the first time he had heard of anything like that. He always thought that some Pokemon looked similar, but he never put two and two together. Thor was going to turn into an Electabuzz? That thing that wrecked Laram's body? He was a bit worried now. He could only hope that he could build a strong enough relationship with Thor by that time. The trainer sighed and rubbed the back of his head."Thanks for the info. I think I need some sleep."Laram made his way to his cot and flopped down upon it. His body was tired, but his brain was spinning. It was as if Trish had dropped a bomb on him. He knew that he didn't know as much about Pokemon as he needed to. As his team joined him on their bed, Laram picked through the information he had on his Pokedex. He now finally had the realization of how important the device was. If he was going to learn more about Pokemon, that was the key.
Eventually, Laram fell asleep and night passed into morning. He arose, and woke his team and they left without incident. Laram needed to do two things before the day was over. He needed to make a little more money, and he needed to learn more about his Pokedex. He made his way to Techmech Street's information board to look for another job. It looked like they needed someone to clean up the area. That seemed simple and safe enough. As he was looking, Jack came up to him with a green stone in his ears. Laram chuckled and put the stone in his pack. Apparently, Jack was always going to do that.
"What'd you find Jack?"Laram accepted the yellow bottle from his Pokemon and smiled to him. The jackrabbit had a knack for finding random things wherever they went. He decided not to press the issue and gratefully put the item in his pack. They had been back at the guild for about an hour and the sun had completely set. So Laram hadn't even noticed his partner wander off. He was sitting outside the front door tending a campfire with a pot dangling above it. In it was their dinner. As if on cue, everyone's stomachs grumbled all at once, and the new trainer laughed. None of the other rangers were around, so he guess they were all on a mission. Whatever the reason was, he was alone with his Pokemon. As the soup finished cooking, Laram poured it into five bowls he found while rummaging around in the kitchen. He didn't try to cook his food in there. He had never used a kitchen before and so he was much more accustomed to cooking over a fire. His Pokemon collectively sniffed his handiwork and peered at each other as if to see who was brave enough to take the first bite.
"Rude."Laram chuckled to himself as he took his first sip. It wasn't the best he had ever made; but it was warm and hearty, and he knew it would fill everyone up. He watched his teammates' little standoff while enjoying his food. He wasn't worried. He knew that eventually they would eat. Jack seemed to have the most courage as he stooped to try it. With all eyes on the rabbit, he casually took a sip and nodded to everyone else. With what looked like sighs of relief, Laram watched as one by one, his Pokemon began eating their food. They all finished their bowls, enjoying the night and the fire together. As much as Laram liked beds, there was nothing like being out under the stars by the warmth of a fire. As the rest of the rangers poured in, Laram had learned that they all headed in to town to help stop a Donphan who had gone berserk. Laram recounted his day's events to Trish, who agreed that the mission was probably a bit too much for his team to handle. Laram inquired about any possible work, but Trish shook her head."Nothing that doesn't require someone more experienced. Don't worry, something will come in."Laram nodded, disappointed. With nothing left to do, the trainer and his team curled up into their bed. The last thing the trainer heard before drifting off to sleep was,"Has anyone seen my full heal?"
Laram woke with a yawn and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. He wasn't entirely sure what time it was, but he felt a little groggy. Stirring himself up out of bed, he tiptoed through the house and out on to the front step. Outside, Trish and Megan were conversing."Good morning Laram."The trainer blinked at the greeting and weakly waved his hand in response. It was odd, he was normally a morning person, but he chocked it up to everything that had happened the previous day."I've been meaning to speak to you for a little while now. It's about your egg. I think it's going to hatch today."Laram blinked again, this time in surprise."How can you tell?""Well, I've noticed your pack moving while you're still asleep. Plus, I've heard it squeaking sometimes at night. It's been getting more and more active lately, and with what you told me last night about the Fletchinder, I would be incredibly surprised if it doesn't hatch at some point today. You see, Fletchinder's and Talonflame have been known to hatch eggs exceptionally quickly."Laram stared in surprise. He didn't want to shrug off what Trish was saying. She was obviously more knowledgeable than he was. But it was a little strange to him. He had never seen an egg hatch before. The the sudden realization hit him. He needed to get to the Pokemon center fast.
"I need to go. Now."Trish and Megan chuckled as Laram bolted inside and clumsily donned his pack and woke his team."Come on guys, we need to get going asap."His Pokemon stared at him groggily and grunted at his words. To which the trainer shook them all until they were up. Once everyone was in tow, the trainer half jogged, half power walked his way out the door."Easy there tiger. Egg hatching isn't an exact science. No one knows when it will happen. Just relax, take a deep breath, and don't freak out. Oh, and make sure you bring the egg here. It's better for it to hatch out in the open rather than some sterilized hospital room. Babies need exposure so they can toughen up their immune systems. Don't always trust nurses."Laram nodded, and took a deep breath as he was instructed. But that didn't seem to calm his nerves. However, he did agree with Trish about not trusting nurses. Waving his goodbyes, Laram and his team headed off towards the Pokemon center to retrieve their new friend, and possibly one more.
"Well if he isn't the cutest thing!"The female ranger pinched the Charmander's cheeks. The salamander cowered back into his trainer's chest, burrowing his face. It was adorable, and the Laram couldn't help but smile."He's so big. What's his name?"Laram hadn't thought about it. HIs poor Charmander didn't have a name yet. His Fletchinder either. "Hmm. I don't know yet. How about Cynder for you, and Firnen for you?"Laram motioned to Fletchinder and Charmander respectively."Char char!" The seemed to like it. Laram eyed his Charmander's tail. It seemed to burn healthy. He had from the Pokedex that Charmander's tails were connected to their life. That if the flame went out, the Pokemon died."Look at that yellow skin. You aren't like other Charmanders are you?"Trish and Megan continued to coo over the new infant, but Laram's eyes were on Cynder. She had been acting strangely ever since they left the center. Laram gingerly handed over Firnen to Trish and knelt down beside his new friend.
"You okay Cynder?"The Fletchinder looked sad about something. Laram didn't know what, but he wanted to."What's bothering you? You can tell me." The Fletchinder looked towards the sky and back towards Laram, giving him the same sad, longing look."She wants to be free. Did you catch her willingly or not?"Laram knew that she was right, which made him feel terrible. He thought that Cynder came along consensually, but perhaps she hadn't."Is that it? Do you want to go?"The bird nodded weakly, staring into Laram's eyes."What are you going to do Laram?"Laram returned the Fletchinder's gaze."I am so sorry. I thought you wanted to come along. You are of course, free to do what you wish. I promise, if you want to go, I won't stop you. Thank you for your help."Laram patted her head and stood up. He would never force anyone to travel with him. Cynder's choices were her own. She flapped her wings and became airborne, nodding at Laram as she ascended. "If you need me, I'll help. Anytime Cynder. Goodbye, and thank you!"Laram watched until Cynder was a speck in the sky."You did the right thing. It's not easy letting a Pokemon go."Trish handed back Laram's Charmander and put her hand on his shoulder.

"So are you still looking for some work?" Trish's sudden question surprised the trainer, but not for long."We'll take whatever we can get. What's the job?"Trish seemed upset about something."A bit of a sad story really. One of the local teens came in while you were out at the Pokemon center. Apparently, he and a couple of his friends got their kicks out of torturing a poor Pikachu in the forest. He gave us the location of where they did it. I want you to go find it and bring it back so we can help it."Laram could tell that Trish was barely holding back her anger. He understood her feelings. What he couldn't understand was why anyone would want to hurt a Pokemon for no reason."Do we know what kind of condition it's in? Should I bring a healing item?"It wouldn't be a terrible idea. According to him, it was pretty bad. I would also expect it to attack. I can't imagine it trusting humans too much right now." "Yeah. I don't imagine it would either. So where is it?"
"Alright, according to him, they weren't too far into the forest yet. So it's somewhere in the southern end. He said they were right by a stream. The only place in the southern forest that has a stream is right about here."The senior ranger ha pulled out a map and pointed to an area with her finger. Laram quickly studied the map, and memorized it in his head."I would start looking around there.""Understood."Laram checked his pack for supplies. He didn't expect to be out for more than the day, so he figured he was fine."I think we're good to go, unless you think there's anything else I need to know.""I think you'll be fine, but let me heal up Jack before you head out."Laram retrieved Jack and watched Trish spray him with some sort of bottle. As she did, the scrapes from earlier seemed to disappear and the luster return to his cheeks. The trainer thanked his superior, and she scratched his Charmander's head before he left. "Stay safe out there! Firnen, you keep an eye on him out there. Bring Laram back in one piece! I'm counting on you!"Laram waved as he and his team headed out towards the Rowling Forest. Soon the tree line grew until it was the only landscape in view."Alright, according to Trish, the area is a little west of here, let's head that way."

"Laram wake up. There's someone here for you."The trainer stirred awake and blinked at the voice. It was Trish, he knew that, but he was still too tired to fully register what was going on."Huh? What?""There's some guy outside asking for you. I don't know who it is, but please go deal with it."Laram nodded sleepily and slowly got to his feet. All of his team was on a dog pile on top of him, so he had to move all of them while standing. Trying to wipe the sleep from his eyes, he found his boots and slipped them on. Making his way outside, he noticed Megan playing with Firnen on her cot. He didn't mind, so he ignored it. Once outside, he saw that it was Bobbie who was calling for him."There you are. I've been looking for you since yesterday. We never got to finish our battle."Laram stared at him, half asleep, half surprised."Oh. Okay. Who's up next?""Well, you're going to be going up against a steel gym leader, so you need to learn to fight steel types. Here."
The man tossed forward a pokeball and released a small, four legged creature from inside. It was metallic in color and had blue eyes. Waking up a little more now, Laram ran back inside to his pack and retrieved his Pokedex."Jack, we have a battle outside. I want you for it if you're willing."The jackrabbit nodded silently and walked out the door with his trainer. Jack was always so agreeable. Laram was glad to have him as a partner. Laram scanned the Pokemon, and learned that it was called "Aron", and that it was a steel and rock type. The Bunnelby's ground type moves would be great for the opponent."Alright, let's do this Jack. Let's start things off with a mud shot."Bobbie looked amused at Laram's attempt at a preemptive strike, but not surprised. Folding his arms across his chest, the veteran trainer smirked as he called out his own orders. "Autotomize. Then metal claw."The Aron shivered along its' body, as a water shakes of water. But then it jumped out of the way of the incoming projectile, with a nimbleness that Laram did not expect. It was quicker than he thought, what with its' stubby legs. It then jumped high into the sky as its' legs began to glow bright, and brought itself down, slashing at Jack."Dodge with agility."The bunny disappeared, just as his opponent came down upon him, striking only an afterimage. Then the Pokemon reappeared several steps away. Bobbie laughed."No need to be so hasty. We have time. Now let's try this again."

"Aron, headbutt."The small, steel type charged forward, bringing its' neck down and aiming to ram its' opponent head first. But the new trainer was ready. With a confidence that came from every battle he and his partner had been in, Laram called out his own orders to his Bunnelby."Jack, double kick. Ground first."Calmly, the jackrabbit waited for his opponent to close the distance; and just before he was about to be rammed, the bunnelby slammed the ground with his foot. This launched the Pokemon above his charging opponent, and as the Aron's momentum carried him forward beneath, the Bunnelby kicked again, striking his opponent's back. This forced the Aron into the dirt, hard. The rabbit's legs were strong. Perhaps not as strong as his ears, but strong nevertheless. As the Aron picked itself up, Jack hopped back, allowing himself to get some distance from his opponent. That was how he liked to fight. He liked to react to his opponent rather than be the aggressor. Bobbie smiled as he folded his arms across his chest."It seems like you're learning. That was a good counterattack. But the gym leader isn't going to make it this easy. Aron, rock tomb."
The steel Pokemon cried out, and sharp rocks protruded from the ground, surrounding Jack, the Bunnelby."What will you do now that your Pokemon can't move?"The question leered over Laram. He could try to break his way out from the rocks, but that would leave Jack open to attack. There had to be a different way. That's when the trainer remembered something his pokedex said that he had never tried before. But it seemed appropriate now."Jack, use dig."Laram couldn't see it, but he heard the sound of earth being moved from within the rock formation, and before long, he saw what looked like a line breaking the ground from beneath as his Pokemon burrowed his way towards his opponent. Before long, the distance between the two closed and the Bunnelby appeared from below, smashing into his opponent's underbelly. The force from the impact sent the Aron flying and it hit the ground dazed and unconscious. This shocked Laram. It usually took a lot more to down an opponent."That's good thinking, using type advantage like that. If you keep that up, you'll be just fine in the gym."Laram had heard about type advantage before, but he'd never really learned about it."What do you mean? What's type advantage?"
Bobbie sighed."I keep forgetting that you're a new trainer. It makes it difficult because you're a natural when it comes to battling, and your so damn lucky. Type advantage is how it sounds. Every Pokemon has a type. You're Bunnelby is a normal type. That means that it's weak to certain types, and strong against others. For example, fighting types hit him harder than say an electric type; and ghost types are completely ineffective against him. This has to do with attacks. My Aron is a rock and steel type. So he's four times weak to fighting and ground type attacks. Which is exactly what you used against him. It made for a short battle. Let's continue your lesson with another battle. I'll be using a Magnemite. It's another steel type."

"Firnen, use ember. Aim for the magnets on the side.""Char!"The yellow salamander Pokemon reared its' head and launched a fireball towards his opponent, aiming to strike it on the magnet protruding from the floating Pokemon's right side.Yeah. Dodge that. Didn't I teach you better than that?Bobbie sneered at the trainer. It had been a month since the veteran trainer had taken Laram under his wing, and began teaching him what it meant to be a trainer. Specifically, how to battle with Pokemon. In fact, Bobbie had taught Laram better, the first attack was simply a way to line up Magnemite for something larger. "Yep. You did. Fire spin Firnen."Firnen loosed a swirling inferno from his maw that engulfed his opponent so that he could not escape."Don't let up Firnen! Use flame burst. Let's end this quick! The yellow Pokemon formed a fireball from his mouth once again. Only this time, it was larger, and fiercer. The attack sounded like a jet, and the trainer could feel the heat emanating from it. Launching, it forward, Firnen thrust his head as if throwing the attack with his mouth. It arced in the air and hit the swirling tornado with full force. As it did, the attack burst into smaller bits of fire as they struck Magnemite with enough force to throw it backward. It hit the ground, and didn't get up. Excited, the little lizard ran to his trainer and jumped into his arms. Laram happily patted his head, congratulating him on winning for the first time. Laram was surprised at his progress, being only a month old."Good job Firnen. You did really well."
"He sure did. Good job big guy."Bobbie came over and rubbed Firnen's head with his hand. "Char! Char!""I would say that you guys are ready to face your first gym challenge now. Honestly, you could go in there with anyone on your team and you would be fine." Laram agreed. He and his team had grown a lot in the past month. While he didn't necessarily care about some gym challenge, it was apparently something that trainers did. He didn't mind doing it. Plus, he had heard that it gave trainers access to different inventory in shops. So he figured, why not?"Do I have to set up some sort of appointment or something? I've never done this before.""No. You can just walk right in to the gym and challenge Harvey."Trish had walked up without anyone noticing."It's early. Maybe I'll do it today. Is there anything I should know before going in there?""Well, I already told you that he uses steel types. I think you'll be fine if you keep that in mind."Sounds good. I'll go try to get that badge.""Good luck Laram."Laram waved goodbye and left towards the gym. He'd been in Nix City long enough to know the way.

Laram approached the Ranger's guild with a newfound feeling of accomplishment. He had managed to acquire his first gym badge; and while it was obvious that Harvey hadn't been fighting at his full strength, not many trainers had accomplished what he and his team had. Laram kept glancing at the shiny symbol in his pocket. It felt heavy, but not in a physical way. The badge signified to everyone that Laram had managed to earn a gym leader's approval. It wasn't something to be taken lightly. As the familiar building filled Laram's view, he could hear a commotion from inside."What the...Thor, help me out here. Keep on your guard."Laram released the Elekid from his Pokeball and nodded to the yellow Pokemon as he drew his knife from its' sheath on his belt. Slowly, and carefully, the duo approached the front door. At this distance, the once dull, clattering sound became more defined, and the trainer could hear voices. "It's okay little guy. We're not going to hurt you. Just calm down. Look! I have poffins.""No! Don't get on the counter! Trish, we have to grab it before it hurts itself!"The voices belonged to Trish and Megan, two of the rangers that Laram had come to know from his time in Nix City. While they sounded worked up, they didn't sound like they were in danger. He sheathed his knife and pushed open the front door.
"Is everyone okay in here?"Laram didn't exactly know what to make of what he was seeing. Trish and Megan were on the ground, seemingly trying to coax something down off of the counter in the kitchen. Trish had a plate of muffin shaped items, that must have been poffins. They were very colorful, and they looked appetizing. His eyes naturally scanned the room and found what the rangers had their attention on. In the corner, on the counter, there was a small Pokemon, cowering. It was scared, obviously. It whimpered, trying to push itself farther away from them, but it couldn't. Every time Megan or Trish tried to get closer, its' eyes widened in fear and it let out a cry. Laram had no idea how it had gotten there, but it was clear that it wasn't by choice. Trish turned to Laram as he called out."Laram! You're back. You'll have to tell us how it went after we deal with this. We found the little guy wandering around in the power plant. His crying was attracting all the hostile Pokemon in the area. We saved him, but...Well, you can see what we've been dealing with.""He's scared to death, the poor little guy. Here, let me try."Laram took the plate of poffins from Trish and had Megan and Trish leave for the time being. Once the door clicked behind him, Laram released all of his Pokemon except Baldur from their pokeballs. He figured that maybe his Pokemon would be able to calm the baby, even if a little.
The trainer didn't approach the Pokemon, rather, he sort of acted like he didn't exist. Laram set the plate of poffins down, near enough so that the frightened Pokemon wouldn't have to move far from his corner to reach. But far enough away that he would have to get off the counter. After he did that, the trainer nodded to his team and placed his pack on his bed. As far as he was concerned, he needed to act as if it was business as usual."Firnen, come here. I want to take a look at you."The yellow lizard turned around and trotted up to his trainer. Laram scooped him up off the floor and sat him in his lap. An action, he noticed, intrigued the scared Pokemon, but not enough for him to move. Ignoring it for now, Laram turned his attention to his Charmander. He had been injured pretty badly in his gym battle, but nothing permanent. Laram pulled a potion from his pack and sprayed Firnen in a few places. The Charmander winced every time, and clutched at Laram's sleeve while he administered the medicine."Char char."His cry sounded pitiful, but it was clear that Firnen trusted Laram."Sorry buddy. I know it smarts. But it's good for you, and the pain will subside. You did amazing today. I'm so proud of you."Laram patted his Charmander's head and hugged him fondly. That was enough for the frightened Pokemon. He cried out, leapt from the counter and ran towards Laram. At first, Laram thought he was going to attack, but he actually jumped into the trainer's arms, buried his face into his body, and began weeping. Laram realized that he was just a baby.
Laram gingerly picked up the infant, who didn't seem to protest, and carried him outside where Trish and Megan were waiting."That's amazing. We couldn't get him to come near us."Megan pouted at the comment and turned her head, which made Laram crack half a smile out of awkwardness."So what should we do with this little guy? Do we know where his parents are?"Trish frowned."We know he's a Kangaskhan. We know they live in the forest. But we only saw him. Megan checked with the nurse earlier, while you were out. But no other Kangaskhan were seen anywhere near town. Something must have happened to his mother. I hate to ask, but could you see what you can do to fix this? He seems to like you. It will be easier on him if you did this job.""Sure. No problem. I'll see what I can find in Rowling Forest.""Normally, I wouldn't let you take on this job by yourself, but I noticed you got your badge. That kind of makes you the top trainer in the guild. No one else has gotten one. So I think you'll be fine. Besides, you have this big, strong, guy helping you out don't you?"That last bit was directed at Firnen. The girls were always fawning over him. Laram chuckled."That I do. Come on guys. Let's see if we can't help this little guy find his mom." With that, Laram and his team left for the Rowling Forest.

Laram's eyes creaked open, and he fought to stifle a yawn. He lost that battle and stretched his entire body as he sat up. His body felt heavy, but he figured he was just tired. His entire team was sprawled out on the bed haphazardly, as was their custom. He didn't want to wake them yet. The previous day was long, and they deserved the sleep. He made his way to the kitchen and poured himself a cup of coffee that was already brewed. Sipping the steaming caffeine, Laram made his way to the front porch, where Trish and Megan were already."Morning sleepy head. How did you sleep?"Laram mindlessly nodded before answering."I'm good. Tired, but good."The trainer wasn't fully awake yet, so he didn't notice that he hadn't actually answered the ranger's question. But she smiled, nodded, and moved on. "That's good. I noticed you don't have the infant with you. How did the mission go?"Laram blinked at the question, and sipped his coffee again before answering.
"There were some snags, but everyone made it out in one piece. I'm pretty sure we found his mother...Or at least another Kangaskhan without a child. On the way back we were ambushed by a horde of spider Pokemon; but we got away from them. All in all, I'd call it a success.""Great! Here's your pay for that. Normally, I would tell you to get some rec, but we actually got a request in this morning that I need you to take care of."Laram raised an eyebrow. It wasn't like he was the only ranger in Nix City. His quizzical look didn't go unnoticed."It has to be you. Megan and I are working another job today. Lisa sprained her ankle on her last mission and is benched until she heals. You know the boys can't handle anything too hard. It has to be you."Laram sighed."What's the job?""Some courier named Michael has a delivery to Blume Town, and he's asking for an escort. He said something about recent robberies making him nervous or something. I don't know. It pays okay, and it should be relatively simple."Trish nodded as she talked, and Laram shrugged before going inside, packing up, and waking his team."Up and attem guys. We got a job to do."After rousing his team, Laram got the meeting place and time from Trish before heading out.
