Sailor Maenalus chewed nervously at her lip. It had been a very, very long time since she had gone on a patrol on her own. Maybe she should have called Draconis or Circe to see if they were up to help her out... The senshi grimaced. They were probably up to eternals now, given the advantage they had over her due to her absence, but that internship had been too good to pass up (well, besides the fact she didn't get paid for any of it...). The senshi took a deep breath and exhaled. She just needed to calm her nerves, that was all. Tonight, she'd try to avoid any Negaverse, or at least anyone stronger than a lieutenant, and dust some youma. That had never been that hard. And it wasn't like she wasn't physically fit to do it, so should be easy enough, right? Thinking about it, she scowled. Her so-called "guardian" cat could have come with her to at least keep her company, but since she had off-handedly mentioned patrol that afternoon, by the time she got back to her apartment that evening he was unsurprisingly absent. Total scared-y cat, but at least he would have been good for conversation while she was wandering the streets. The lone senshi picked up some far-off energy signature of what maybe, could have been a youma? Or a Negaverse agent... Geeze she was really out of practice at this. Best way to get back at it was to jump right in though, right? She quickened her pace and headed towards it. If it was a youma she'd fight it, if it wasn't, well, her own signature was relatively weak as an entry-level senshi, so she might be able to escape unnoticed... Maybe.

He could taste the power signature in the air.
It was a softer, sweeter - sterile taste of Order, and it disgusted him. Not to mention that it felt weaker than his own, which was always a good advantage; not that he would have backed off even if it had been stronger. None of the Order was worth running away from, after all.
Wolfeite made his way through the winding, darkened streets of Destiny City, seeking out the location of the signature. It grew more prominent as he turned down a side road and came out in the midst of a series of buildings. Dark eyes were perked on the top of his head, alert and listening carefully; he could hear footsteps drawing nearer, his tail flicking sharply behind him.
There.
Wolfeite made another turn and made his way down another darkened street. He caught a glimpse of white and picked up the pace, not stopping until he had emerged from the shadows in front of the senshi, golden eyes raking across her form.
"Good evening, senshi."

Maenalus flinched, visibly startled. Who... What was standing in front of her? The energy signature was decidedly dark, almost dripping and swirling with shadows like a whirlpool reaching for her, to drag her into an abyss. But the ears... the tail? Her blue eyes narrowed, confused. "Hello, cat?" She wasn't sure, but Fleance had explained all about guardian cats being able to take on a human form because he complained all the time about not being able to access his. And she knew previously that the Negaverse had corrupt guardian cats on their side, that's how they awoke agents, after all. So... Is that what she was faced with? Her little fuzzball also said that in human form he gave off an incredible power signature, and that it took a lot of energy to maintain; could that explain what she was sensing? Maenalus was tense, maybe those ears of his could pick up her heart pounding in her chest, but she wasn't on the verge of running away from this decidedly peculiar encounter.

Cat?
It caught him off guard, Wolfeite's head tilting, eyes narrowing as he surveyed the senshi. She was being serious; her expression indicated that she had not run into anyone like him before, which was something that could be taken advantage of if he was careful enough about it.
His ears remained upright, listening carefully, but it was his vision that was the sharpest of all; the darkness held no barriers for Wolfeite, who could see clearly enough that he could distinguish all of the senshi's features without having to strain through the dim lightning of the lampposts.
His tail switched slowly back and forth behind him like a snake in the grass.
"What is your name?" he asked, voice low, the kerchief pulled up over the lower half of his face so that the words came out slightly muffled, his sharpened teeth hidden from view. "What are you senshi of?"

Well, his reaction seemed kind of cat-like, she guessed. Fleance was always curious enough, and she'd never heard of an evil cat. There were plenty of evil Negaverse agents, while more operated in shades of gray, but an evil cat...? Nah. The senshi wasn't buying it. She couldn't make out a dark forehead star in the darkness, but if she had to guess, Maenalus figured it could be obscured by the inky black marking on his face. She strained to hear him, and took a step towards the supposed 'cat' to hear him better. She was a patient girl, but caution was not one of her strong points. Usually that translated to a few scrapes or bruises from pushing herself while camping. But this was no walk in the woods. "I'm Sailor Maenalus... The Senshi of Mountains," she paused, but figured fair was fair, "who're you?" ...were guardian cats supposed to wear shoes?

He watched her with an inscrutable expression on his face, glowing gold eyes narrowed slightly. She was not a familiar senshi, not one that he had come across before; her comments about him being a cat were enough to indicate that her knowledge of the Negaverse was limited, perhaps of powered identities in general.
I'm Sailor Maenalus, the Senshi of Mountains.
He made a note of this, Wolfeite filing the name and sphere away for future reference. Perhaps Labyrinthite had heard of her before, and if not, it would be good to have notations on the ones who he came into contact with. One of his ears flicked towards her.
"My name is Wolfeite," he said calmly. "of the Negaverse."
He slanted another narrow-eyed look towards her.
"Are you new to being a senshi, perhaps?"

'Well duh of the Negaverse,' she almost said, but she didn't want to be rude. She was a little bit inept and low on experience, but the sick feeling in the pit of her stomach caused by his power signature was clear enough. Oh, and all the black he was wearing. Did corrupt guardian cats take on mineral names? She wasn't sure, but it sounded like something that would make sense. After all, what was the alternative? A Negaverse agent who was a furry or something? He didn't identify himself as a lieutenant or such. Oh but now he was being rude. The senshi huffed and stomped her booted foot. "I've been a senshi for years!" Five, if she recalled correctly, but the memory of ********* awakening Maenalus in time to save herself from a youma seemed so distant and foggy. "I just had to take a... leave of absence... Work related..." She crossed her arms and scowled at the cat. It wasn't a good look, but she was getting irritated and if her face stuck that way, then so be it. "Shouldn't you be off awakening some Negaverse agent or something?" The senshi turned her nose up at him. That's what Fleance ought to be doing for the side of Order, but she suspected he was busy having a crush on someone at the moment (he was bringing home an awful lot of garbage lately). Maenalus was all but ready to dismiss this rude little corrupt cat.

Years made him arch a dark brow, Wolfeite surveying the senshi in front of him as she stomped a boot. For someone who claimed to have awakened long before he had, she was still rather inexperienced if she remained at the level she was. Her power signature was weaker than his own, after all, even if it wasn't by much.
And she thought him a cat.
How very interesting, Wolfeite thought. He lifted his chin, feeling a sense of distinct pleasure at the fact that he was being mistaken for such a creature; it meant she had no idea of the actual thing he was, or perhaps she was simply ignorant.
Either way, it was a curious matter.
A smirk had begun to form on Wolfeite's lips beneath the kerchief as he took a simple step towards her.
"That depends," he said lightly. "Is that all you think the Negaverse cats do?"

"Sense powered senshi, sense all Negaverse agents, even those unawakened, awaken said Negas, power up Negas, yadda yadda..." She rattled it off with her eyes rolled. Why was she being quizzed by this cat? Up until recently most of this was unknown to her besides awakening. Fleance had taught her a lot in a short time but that was mostly because he loved talking about himself. And Corrupt cats could do the same, just for the opposing team. She watched him closely as he took a step closer. "They can fight, but they're not very good at it. Their claws aren't unbreakable, nor are their teeth. They can shoot a beam of power from their forehead star," she tapped her own forehead as she said it, "though they're pretty weak..." She began to look at Wolfeite with some scrutiny. That step closer didn't fully bring him into light, but she still wasn't able to make out any forehead star on the agent of Chaos. Should she... ...Run? The sense of dread was growing, she could almost taste its bitterness, but something kept the senshi from fleeing.

Wolfeite, to his credit, was capable of restraining himself when necessary - and he was restraining himself now, biting back the derisive laughter that threatened, his expression hidden behind the skeletal kerchief so that the smirk was out of sight.
Someone has been woefully misinformed, he thought. He was aware of what the cats in the Negaverse could and could not do - and none of what this senshi was saying was true. At the very least, however, it gave him an idea of what the Order cats could do, and that was useful information. Wolfeite tucked it away, taking another step forward.
"I'll tell you a little secret, senshi," he said, his voice low, eyes glowing gold in the dark. "Cats are such simple creatures, even in the Negaverse. They hold their own brand of power, but are inferior to those that are actually strong - even if they are superior to the Order brats."
He took a step forward, reaching a hand up to tug down the cloth, and a wide, merciless grin spread across Wolfeite's face, teeth sharp, flashing white.
"My name is Captain Wolfeite," he said, "And I am not a cat."
And he lunged forward, sweeping a fist towards her.

Maenalus didn't even have time to gasp, and she nearly fell backwards trying to get away from the Captain's assault. Escape was now her only choice and her only hope of making it out of this encounter alive. They were pathetically mismatched, advantage Wolfeite. She had thrown her hands up to protect herself and absorbed the hit with her arms. She didn't hear a 'crack,' but the power behind his blow was staggering. The only thing Maenalus had going for her was that she was not up against a general, and that could hardly be considered an advantage. The senshi sucked in a breath and tried to calm herself, if only so she wouldn't look so scared to her opponent, which she definitely was. "Then what are you?" She had seen his eyes glow and his fangs flash in the dark. His ears and tail were as real as any, clearly not accessories. She shook her hands and arms, trying to get rid of what felt like a vibration still buzzing up and down them. All she wanted to do was run, but until she saw a way out, the senshi braced herself for another attack, probably worse than the first.

He did not manage to hit her face, but his fist connected sharply with her arm instead as she threw up her hands to protect herself. Wolfeite felt the shock of impact reverberate up his entire arm as the senshi staggered backwards, a snarl of impatience pulled from his throat.
The manic, toothy grin was still on his face, stretched tightly so that his sharp teeth could clearly be seen.
"What am I?"
He repeated her question, taunted it back at her as he advanced forward again, Wolfeite's tail lashing behind him, ears pressed flat against his dark head of hair. He reached out, gloved fingers seeking her wrist so that he could grab her and yank her closer if she didn't pull away fast enough.
"What do you think I am, little lost senshi?"

Maenalus staggered back, wondering if she would have time to cast her magic for Maenalus Mountain Rumble, but had little hope that Captain Wolfeite would give her the time, or even be clumsy enough to get caught in it. Too much of what she could do was riding on luck and chance. She felt like her throat was closing up and she was struggling for air, could someone's heart literally be in their throat? It was pounding so hard she thought it would burst. She'd faced youma, swamp monsters, a giant Justin Beiber, but she had never been this scared, or more often, so alone. "I-I don't know..." she stammered out, "you must be some kind of monster." Her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes were huge but they were too focused on the glint of his teeth and the twitching ears and tail to see his quick hand reach out to snatch her. She was too slow. He'd caught her.

He decided, looking at her, that he didn't want to kill her. Killing her would be too easy, and that was never a route that Wolfeite found particularly pleasing. Violence was always more fun if it was drawn out, and letting her live so that he could find her again was definitely an option.
Maybe. It depended on how he felt for the rest of the night.
His fingers closed around her wrist, and he had the satisfaction of feeling the tender bones of her arm beneath his gloved fingers, Wolfeite's gleaming eyes growing pleased. He jerked the senshi back towards him, his lips drawn back in a snarl, manic and uncontrolled.
"A monster is an excellent term for what I am," he hissed, voice a low caress, rough around the edges. "Have you heard of the youma, little lost senshi?"
