The cable is typically kept wrapped around Caelum disguised as a set of prayer beads. He can use the weapons in tandem or individually. When using dust, the charge is set in either the hilt of the khopesh or the bulb of the varja. Caelum uses the varja on most days as a cane, holding the hook end in his hand. He keeps the khopesh on his back, strapped in a scabbard.

Character Description

Looks: Caleum is the typical old man. He wears layered blue robes, with only light armor covering his arms and torso. His hair is long, and if it is cut at all is choppy as if he did it himself. (Which he does). He also has a beard, kept much neater than most of his hair. When he wears his weapons cable, it is wrapped around his neck, like a necklace. He has also put on a little weight, but under the extra bulk is still muscle.
Personality: Caelum is reclusive. He has spent most of his time recently alone, so he has lost pretty much any filter he had between his mind and mouth. He is abrasive, blunt, and mean. But he does it out of caring, never having lost that compassion all teachers have.
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 224
Eye Color: Green, but faded
Hair Color: Silver

Background Information
From the personal scroll of Caelum Caecus. Recovered from his residence after retirement. Placed on the grave of his wife Theodosia.

Dear Theodosia,

I feel the time has come now to confess to you what my greatest fault, and biggest sin, was in life. I know it is far too late to ask for your forgiveness, for I could never hope to earn it. I have missed you every day Theodosia. I will be joining you soon, but first I have something that must be done. I’m sorry if this letter seems to ramble on, but this is my confession.

More years ago than I am willing to admit, even before I was a young man, I went to school to learn to be a Huntsman. It was one of the few dreams I had as a child. My first golden days come when I was in the academy, being put on a team and fighting with my friends was something I hadn’t even thought to enjoy. The years flew by until graduation. From there my team split, each of us going our separate ways. I wish I could say that I kept in touch with my friends, but sadly only Dalan and I stayed in contact.

A few years of being a Huntsman, during which time I met you and started a family, I was given the choice to return to the academy as an instructor. I was more than willing to take the position, even if I didn’t consult you. I regret that, knowing how much the move put stress on you. I didn’t know at the time, but neither did you, that you were pregnant with our son.

Thankfully nothing happened and a few months later our son, Phillip, was born. To that point in my life, my proudest moment was graduating the academy. Our son took over my life; I spent more time teaching than going on missions so that I wouldn’t risk being away from you and him.

As Philip grew, he became determined to follow in my footsteps. You begged me to convince him not to join, but I couldn’t do it. I promised to watch over him. I did everything I could to watch for him. And it is there that my failure happened. The reason I retired and moved away from everything.

It was the last year Philip was at the academy, his final mission. (We didn’t know at the time, but you were already gone.) His final mission was a scouting mission. Go out, check the status of the walls, and report. They were never meant to fight as much as they did. I couldn’t stop the fight, so I had to join in with it. As a whole we were able to fight off the combined forces of Grimm… Until the Goliath came.

It was just a single Goliath, spurred to action by some other Grimm. I heard it coming but wasn’t able to distract the creature. Philip, brave Philip, leapt to the fight. He never stood a chance and I froze. I could have saved him, but in that moment time slowed down and I wasn’t able to do anything.

By the time I had control again Philip was already gone, the Goliath’s tusk snuffing out that light in my life. I snapped and attacked. Bless the other children, they took the loss better than I did and kept fighting. It gave me space to attack the Goliath. I should have taken the kids and run. I should have accepted the loss. I should have… But I didn’t.

I charged in blindly, only able to see my sons body and the creature that killed him. That sight will stay with me, seared into my mind and my nightmares. The last thing I would ever see. When I charged the Goliath it fought back, catching me with the same tusk. I was thrown into a cliff and blacked out. When I came back, I realized I would never be the same as I was.

When I was hit by the Goliath and hit the cliff, it destroyed my vision. Detached retinas. It also completely ruined my right leg, to the point that I was told cutting it off and replacing it with a cybernetic prosthetic. I chose not to, letting the leg be a constant reminder of my failure. I first trained myself to function without my sight, learning to navigate by the echoes my weapon makes as I walk. I made my way home, not knowing if anyone had told you the news yet.

When I got home, I discovered you were dead as well. Our neighbor told me and took me to your grave. I had Philip moved next to you and spent the next 18 years in seclusion. But now I have been called back into service. There is a crisis and Yoru, one of the boys there when our son died, has asked me to return to my position as a teacher.

I have decided to accept. The world needs me again and I can’t just sit by and listen as it burns. I sincerely hope to return one day so I can tell you what happens. But if that isn’t to be the case, then know that I love you and Philip with everything I have. And one day soon I will see you again.

Always,
Caelum
