Ruelash planned on meeting that husband of Iroia, his dearest partner and friend, later, but for the time being, he was alone. He had no idea why Iroia was with the man she was with, but he supposed that there had to be something going for his cousin of the anennae and green stripes. He'd heard that the guy had fought bandits with that annoying alkidike lady - clearly he could hold his own. Ruelash hoped he could fight him soon and see just how worthy this man was of being his young friend Volkarosh's father. In the meantime, though, again, he was alone, lingering in a village. It was not where he would rather be - that would be high up in the lonely mountains, looking out over chill-wrought Sauti and enjoying the stark power of Chi's wilderness. Maybe he could even catch a sunset from the slopes before he had to return to the sunless twilight of Jahuar, and to his family. But no, he was here, bearing furs and other items he hoped to trade... if he could only find some sort of merchant. Idiots. Why did they have to hide themselves so, in their villages. Direk huffed unhappily, trotting next to him in her cloak. She didn't particularly like anything in this place, or most places really. She leaned in to drag out some of her feed from Ruelash's pack, delicately chewing as she scorned the world.

Iriyana had found a decent piece of wood that just enough strength and the right amount of bend to become a bow. Since she already had the string that she was going to use in her pocket there was nothing else that she needed. So, with her little snow boots and fur coat, she trudged through the snow to find a rock to sit on and get to work.
As the little girl wrapped the string around one end of the wood she made sure that there was a tight knot to hold it in place. Riya had seen her grandpa's bow and had loved it. Of course it was too large for her to handle and that was what had her thinking about one just her size. Not wanting to ask her parents for a bow she had set out to find and make her own. When the first part was done she shifted so that she was sitting cross legged on the rock and flipped the wood so that she could bend it and get to work on securing the other side. Iriyana wasn't sure just how much bend to put in it though.

Oh hey - there was a person. Maybe they would know. More than a person, it was a child. Children were sometimes aggravating, but their annoyingness was born of youth and innocence, not stupidity. It was far better than adult annoyingness. Adults sucked. "Hey, kid." Ruelash said, approaching the little girl, "You know where I can find a merchant or trader or somethin'? I've got furs and stuff, and... Oh!" His interest was caught by the wood and string she had in her hands. "What're you doing? Is that a bow? Are you making a bow?!"

The girl was barely paying attention to what was around her so when she heard the voice of some stranger she blinked, her hands pausing in what they were doing, then looked up to see who it was. Iriyana lifted both brows up as she laid her eyes on the man. She'd never seen him before. Plus.. well he had some scars.
For a moment she gave a thoughtful expression, looking him over as he asked about a merchant. Her father was a merchant but the youngling wasn't so sure she wanted this man near her dad. Riya didn't have much time to ponder that since the man in question seemed to ask about her bow in the making. Dropping her gaze to the half made weapon she nodded. "Yeah, I'm trying to. It's harder than it looks." The little one sighed.
When she brought her eyes back to the odd guy she chewed on the inside of her cheek inquisitively. "Who are you anyways?" Iriyana wanted to know before she mentioned that her dad was just the person he was looking for.

"Yeah. This kid I know, she had to try a coupla' times to get it right." He said, trying to smile reassuringly. He managed something not altogether resembling a snarl. He tried. "Looks like yer doing pretty good there, though." he said, if she was strong enough to bend it, then she'd have a pretty decent one for training. "I'm Ruelash." He said. He just felt like giving it; even he knew that the name would mean nothing, neither synonymous with banditry or war, or Chi's icy 'mercy'. "I just have a lot of stuff. Pelts, claws, bone... stuff. I wan' to trade it for other stuff." he explained, "Smaller stuff."

Well at least she got a compliment on her progress. That meant that she was doing something right. However, with the conversation promising to take her attention away from the bow she was trying to make she laid it across her lap just as the man gave her a name. Ruelash. It was an odd name but she'd heard worse. Or at least far more weird. "Hmn. Alright.. my dad is a traveling merchant. He's in town." Iriyana didn't mention that the whole family traveled with him. There was no point in it really.
This man wanted to trade his larger goods for something smaller. More than likely he wanted supplies he could take with him to wherever it was he was headed. "I'm not sure he'll be interested in the pelts since he trades in those regularly but it's worth a shot."

"'kay." Ruelash replied. The kid's dad was a merchant, and that was good enough. That he might not be interested in pelts had the potential to be very disappointing, and he was a little offended at the idea - his pelts were good! Still, there wasn't much Ruelash could do about it, and at least he'd have something to show for it to Iroia's husband, right? "Hey, y' want some help with that bow, there?" he asked, "She got it eventually, that kid I knew."

Kay? That's all he had to say? Not a "what's his name?" or a "where can I find him?" Iriyana thought that a bit odd since the man had seemed dead set on finding someone to sell his things to. Especially when he now asked if she wanted help with the bow she was trying to make.
It made her turn her head to look at the beginnings of her weapon. For a small moment she thought about it but brought her gaze back to Ruelash. "Sure.. if you know how." Riya had come to the conclusion that if this man could make a bow better than she could then it would work better. Which would mean that she could practice with more accuracy. "Help me with the bow and I'll take you to my dad." That was a fair trade right? Plus it also made her feel like she wan't just being handed something.

"Sounds good." Most of all, it sounded reasonable. A reasonable trade - bow for merchant. See, that was why he liked kids - they weren't obnoxious like their elders. They didn't give him funny looks right off the bat, or distrust him because their aunt's cousin's whatever had heard that he was something or other. Ruelash knew how to make a basic bow that could shoot. Between his sister, his interest in weapons and hunting, and helping Volka out, he knew what to do. "This ain't a bad piece of wood, here." he commented. He knew that the better bows were cut out of small trees, but he and Volka had made their bow out of something that had already fallen. They'd had no proper axe at the time, after all. "And you've already got the places for the string." The kid had done a good job, up to there. "Should probably get rid of a few of these burrs, though." That would probably help it work better. It made sense if it did. He sat down on the rock nearby and took out his knife. "Gonna do that for you. he started to carve it carefully, smoothing out the lines of the bow and narrowing the center piece somewhat - he remembered seeing that on undrawn bow staves before. "Gonna be a hunter?" he asked.

She was pleased that she was on the right track. That meant that she would be able to make her own bows in the future too which would be useful if she ever broke them during practice. When the man sat down and took his knife out she handed over her soon to be bow so that he could do what he said. "Yeah, my grandpa is a hunter for his village. He always has the best pelts too." That was what Iriyana was striving to be like. She wanted to be known for her skill at using the bow.
"Are you?" The youngling asked curiously. If this guy knew so much about bows hen surely he was a hunter or at least something close.

"Sort of." Ruelash said, "I hunt, but it ain't what I do all the time." He was always very careful with his blades - they were his livelihood and treasured (insofar as treasure meant to the wild man) posessions. However, as he tried to maneuver them around the last little nubby bump and spur, it slipped. The edge sliced into his thumb, staining the snow red with droplets of his blood. "Damn!" he snarled, glaring at the cut in embarrassment.

What do you do all the time?" Now she was very curious. Riya tilted her head as she watched him work but her eyes widened when she saw the blade slip and cut his thumb. The little one thought for sure he would slice it clean off but when he didn't she seemed to let out a breath that she hadn't known she was holding.
Her tiny hand went into her pocket and pulled out a small bandage wrap that she instantly started to wrap around the man's finger. "It's okay, I get cuts and scrapes all the time." Iriyana nodded firmly. "You might still wanna have a healer look at it. It looks deep." And she had seen first hand that deep cuts can't be fixed with a wrap.
