When there'd first been talk of a meetup on her favourite gaming forum, Naz had been excited. Now, sitting in the designated cafe, she felt entirely less so. Mainly because she was the only one there. Wait no, maybe the others were just fashionably late? Surely, surely she wasn't going to be the only one to show up. Because that would be pretty sad; doubly so since this was her first ever online meetup and really, she'd been looking forward to it all week. Slightly put-upon, she sipped her hot chocolate (with chocolate chip marshmallows! Americans were weird as ********, but this was one weirdness she could definitely get behind) and tried to look confident sitting alone at the large table she'd commandeered for the event. A few of the other patrons had eyeballed her already, but she'd steadily held eye-contact until they'd looked away. That's right bitches, nothing to see here, a smirk and then another sip of the divine concoction that was hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Temperance was only running marginally late, which was actually good for her. Unless if was for school or work, she had the hardest time getting out the door on time. Doubly so, lately, when she felt robbed of sleep. But there was a meet-up today and Temperance needed that kind of distraction. Plus, if she could find more people to rope into playing Overwatch with, that'd be great. Or really, any multiplayer game. There was just something more fun about playing with friends than random strangers. ....Even if utterly decimating random people was fun in of itself. She shouldered open the door and tugged anxiously on the hem of her yellow shirt. A cat's head took up the entire lower half of the shirt - should she have worn something more, uh, game-oriented? Did they... have a catch phrase, how was she supposed to know who was who?! Temperance caught herself and breathed in deeply before ordering an iced tea. She'd figure it out. In fact... "Um, hello." This woman... at a big table... "Uh, are you here... f-for a thing?" Good going, Temperance. The woman had such gorgeous hair and such a striking face. "I mean, hello, I was wondering if you were here for the meet-up?" The large, reserved table - maybe Temperance wasn't too far off.

Naz looked up from her cup of cocoa, blinked, and then blinked some more at the pretty blonde in front of her. "Yes...?" Before she could ask for an elaboration though, the other woman had already continued. "Yeah! The forum meet-up, right?" A warm smile grew on her face and she set the cup down to hold out a graceful hand, "I'm Riya! Or Nazriya, but my username is Riya - usually I go by Naz or Nazriya, though. s**t," she let out a husky laugh with overtones of relief, "I'm so glad someone else actually showed up to this thing! Thought for a while it was just going to be me here, honestly."

Temperance's sigh of relief came out in a nervous little bubble of laughter. "Oh good, I'm not going crazy!" She took the proffered hand and gave it a bit of an awkward shake before siting down. "Wait, you're Naz? Oh wow! I thought... well, to be honest, I thought everyone on the forum was a dude." It was just common in gaming circles. Naz had probably mentioned her femininity, but Temperance hadn't remembered. "Yeah, I was kind of worried, too. Oh! I'm Thermostatic, though, I guess I should say. But, uh, my name is Temperance. Do you remember who else said they'd come?"

Nazriya laughed, "everyone's a dude on the internet until proven otherwise, yeah?" She settled into a crooked smile and tapped her fingers on her cup, "to be frank I don't really advertise my gender in places like gaming forums. Tends to draw the wrong crowd. I'm not gonna lie if it comes up but," she half-shrugged, "if it doesn't come up then there's no reason to tout it." It was good that it hadn't just been her worried; she didn't really know a lot about how meetups usually went and hadn't entirely known what to expect. "Nice to meet you! Your name is lovely; like the lady from that TV series, what's it called...?" She thought for a moment before waving a dismissive hand, "ah ********, it doesn't matter. It's a cute name!" At Temperance's question she thought back, trying to recall anyone in particular. There'd been a lot of talk in the thread, but she was having trouble recalling the names of the people who'd signed on. "Mm, Ratta..? gERALToFrIVIA too I think. Honestly I think I might have overestimated the table size," she finished with a rueful grin.

"Everybody seems to think a girl can't play an fps or something." Temperance huffed and pulled out her phone, loading up the forum site. She had no idea what Riya was talking about (a television show?), so she politely - awkwardly - ignored the comment. Still, it was nice to have her name called cute instead of 'fitting' or 'old-fashioned. She shifted, embarrassed, in her seat. Finally the site loaded; she got such terrible service here. Temperance scrolled over to her messages and groaned. She looked up, shooting Riya a grimace. "It, uh... it looks like everyone else suddenly can't make it. Ah this.. must be a shitty first meet-up, sorry." She laughed nervously.

Naz had taken another sip of her hot chocolate and watched while the other girl had gotten out her phone to do... something? Ah, that explained it. "They really could've let us know a bit sooner, honestly." She scoffed, setting her cup down. "No, don't be sorry - it's not like this is your fault." A sigh followed by a crooked smile; "hell, one person showing up is one more person than if I'd tried to do a forum meet-up back in Denmark. And with a cute girl like you here this isn't exactly meeting my definition of 'shitty'."

"Oh, you're from Denmark? Do you m-?" Temperance stopped and flushed at being called cute. It flustered her every time, although she'd learned to hold her tongue and not protest against it. It wasn't true, but it was nice to hear. She cleared her throat. "Do you miss it there?" Temperance had never really been out of the area and she often wondered if that was why nothing ever really felt like home. Did people have a certain place in the world that they had to find, to claim, maybe? If that were the case, the world really was unfair. She wondered what feeling 'home' felt like. Ridiculously heavy thoughts for a gaming meetup. "So, the original plan was to, um, meet up, eat lunch... but since no one showed.." She shrugged. "Want to get food to go and just come over to my apartment and play games?" A pause. "I'm not a serial killer or anything! I'm actually a nurse..."

Nazriya's grin turned positively rakish at the other girl's lovely blush, but she half-shrugged in response to the question; "bits and pieces, but not near as much as I thought I would - Ashdown's got some pretty nice people, makes it easier to forget about the stuff left behind." Temperance was definitely included in that category, as of yet. At her proclamation to not being a serial killer the darker skinned woman laughed huskily, waving a hand, "honestly, you're about as far from a serial killer-vibe as one can get. But yeah, that sounds pretty great - let me just finish off this cup." Her cup was nearly empty anyway, so Naz gave it a little swirl and then drank the rest of the cocoa. "Alright, good to go!" She set the empty cup down and got up from the table in one sinuous movement. "What kind of games do you have at your place?"

The concept of regretting leaving things behind was utterly foreign to Temperance. She knew, of course, that people missed things, were homesick, kept in contact... but she'd never felt such an attachment herself. "Glad to hear it," she said in response to Nazriya's assurance that Temperance was not serial killer material. "Remind me not to show you my scapel collection." She stood up as well, noting the grace with which Nazriya moved. Ugh, she was envious of that. "Mmm, I think I remember you posting that you wanted to play Overwatch? I've got some co-op games, too, of course. Castle Crasher stuff and Hunted. Other stuff too." She headed to the counter to order some snacks. Was broccoli cheese soup in a breadbowl a snack? "You want anything?"

"Yeah, I've been eyeing that for a while. Can't really go anywhere online without hearing about it these days, you know? Might as well see what all the fuss is about. But I should probably warn you that I'm," a grimace, "not very good at fps games. Honestly I only ever tried one, but it was markedly not a success. Though I guess there could be some fun in watching me fail miserably, but co-op sounds good too." The last sentence was accompanied by a smile. Thinking for a moment on the question of food before answering, Naz kept up with Temperance as she went. "A chicken sandwich or some fries would be nice, whichever they have. What'll you have? My treat, since you're lending your apartment and games for use," she grinned and winked before getting out her purse.

"Sadly, no fries here - they've chips, though!" And cookies, which Temperance proceeded to acquire alarmingly quickly. She paid for the cookies, although Nazriya bought her a sandwich. She couldn't force the other girl to fuel her habit. ---- Some time later, they'd wound their way to Temperance's apartment. It was small, but organized neatly. She smiled at Nazriya and spread her arms. "Home sweet home!" A whole bookcase was filled with bits and bobs of collector's editions of video games: a mask from Bioshock, the Songbird statue from Infinite, various artbooks, Corvo's mask - it was clearly carefully places, but without rhyme or reason. "So, do you tend to tank or heal or-?" It was time to game. ephebe i realized we can wrap here if u want
