A relic of Nix City's industrial past, the abandoned factory has been empty for decades. After the place was shut down, rumor has it that the owner couldn't decide what to do with it, so it was left empty. Even after the owner passed and the factory was passed onto his children, a decision still couldn't be made as to what to do with the place, so it remains deserted to this day. Now it has become a refuge for stray Pokémon and oddball engineers looking for spare machine parts. There are interesting items to find here, so keep your eyes peeled!

The old, abandoned factory loomed over Laram and Weird Al menacingly. It looked like the kind of place that could kill anyone who entered without notice. Every danger alarm was going off in Laram's head as he scanned the area for threats.We shouldn't be here. Something isn't right about this place.Laram could tell that his partners felt the same way too. He wished that his past hadn't instilled in him a thirst for money, because all he wanted to do was turn around and leave. But Weird Al promised pay, so here he was. "What are we looking for this time?""My electric gem. I lost it the last time I was here. Shouldn't be too hard to find."Laram looked the old man up and down. He wondered why such a thing was so important. He remembered the water gem he had received as pay back in Blume town, but he never thought much of the thing. He had to ask."What exactly are these things? I have one here, but I don't know what they do."
"Boosts the power of an elemental attack."It was a short, and a little confusing. But Laram could tell he wasn't going to get a better answer, so he dropped the subject. The trainer gingerly pushed open the door and stuck his head in the building. It was musty, and smelled like oil. The area seemed clear, so he gingerly stepped inside and checked his surroundings. His team followed, and lastly Weird Al entered, seeming undisturbed by the place. Laram didn't know what to expect, but Al seemed to not be worried. This helped calm Laram's nerves a little."Everyone fan out and search. We're looking for something like this."Laram showed them the water gem from his pack and put it away again."Thorn, stay with me. Can you use that light again? I think that will help make this go quick."His team nodded their agreement and went to work again. Thorn's tail began to glow as he illuminated the area. The water gem had a sheen on it, so Laram was hoping that the light would catch it. Thorn and Laram slowly made their way through the facility, and Laram's worries seemed to be true. Everywhere they went, Laram could hear the sound of Pokemon through the walls, and he made sure that he told Thorn to move quietly. In a room with a giant generator, Laram caught a flash in the corner of his eye, and sure enough, he found the electric gem that Weird Al was looking for. Laram plucked it from the floor and put it in his pocket."Let's get out of here before something...." Laram was interrupted by a loud roar from behind him and Thorn. Spinning around, he drew his knife, but not fast enough. A yellow fist struck him in his stomach and sent him flying. He landed hard, and was barely able to see a yellow form standing over him. One thing was for sure, he was in trouble.
Laram coughed and spit up blood. The wind was knocked out of him and he wheezed as he got onto his hands and knees. Whatever hit him, it hit hard. He felt the air shift, and he rolled backwards to avoid the oncoming blow. Just barely escaping, he jumped back and scrambled to his feet. It was a Pokemon attack. He snatched his Pokedex and scanned it, as he backed away from another fist. Electabuzz, whatever that was. Thorn slid in between the pair, and Laram grabbed his knife again. He didn't know why he was attacked, but that didn't matter at the moment. Looking around, Laram searched for anything to give them an edge. Nothing."Shadow! Jack! Zeus! Get here! Thorn, vine whip."Laram's throat was hoarse, but that's what happens when someone coughs up blood. Thorn lashed out at the Electabuzz with a green whip from his hand. The Pokemon's hand glowed with electricity and he smacked it away and screamed at the trainer and his Pokemon. It was a spine chilling screech that forced both trainer and Pokemon to cover their ears from the pain. Laram could feel his ear drums starting to pop when a stream of star shaped projectiles struck the attacker on its' side, forcing it to reel back in pain. Laram turned to see a smaller Pokemon, but with the same coloring in the door way. The Electabuzz roared again and launched itself towards the new Pokemon, looking as if it was going to ram it.
The small yellow Pokemon raised its' arms and a translucent wall of yellow energy appeared from nowhere. The Electabuzz struck the wall, and struggled with it for a second before shattering it. It wasn't enough. Frantically, Laram scanned the new Pokemon with his Pokedex and quickly looked through its' move set."Elekid, use barrier."Elekid nodded and raised his arms once more, just in time to block another tackle from the Electabuzz. This time, a sphere of blue energy appeared all around the yellow Pokemon, instead of just in front of him. It held this time. Elekid, screech. Thorn, seed bomb." Elekid screeched at his opponent, strong enough to distort the air between them. In the same time, Thorn created a ball of light between his hands and hurled it at the Electabuzz. With the screech keeping the Electabuzz distracted, Thorn's attack hit home, and the Electabuzz took a step back from the force. As he did, the rest of his team appeared, and Laram saw their chance. Elekid, shock wave. Shadow, water pulse. Thorn, seed bomb again. Zeus, whirlwind. Jack, mud shot."Laram's team went to work, and all attacks hit their mark simultaneously. Their attacker reeled back from the force, then Zeus' whirlwind struck it and hurled it against the wall. The Pokemon landed hard, and didn't get back up. Laram breathed shallowly and thanked his team.
"Thanks guys. That thing was tough. Also, thank you...Thor."Laram directed the last part towards Elekid. The trainer knelt down and shook the Pokemon's hand."You saved us back there. You're pretty tough yourself. Want to come with us? We could use someone like you on the team."The Pokemon quickly nodded his head in agreement. Laram nodded in kind and retrieved a Pokeball from his pack."I'll make you the same deal as everybody else. This will only be used if your life is in danger. Or if you want to. I'm only using this to protect you from other trainers."Laram held the capsule out, but did not touch the Pokemon with it. He had to choose. But Laram was surprised at how quickly the Pokemon tapped the button. It was as if he knew what it did, and wasn't scared. Laram released his new partner and found Weird Al at the entrance. He was banged up pretty bad, but his team wasn't. So he was glad for that."Here's your gem old man. I think we'll get paid, and no more jobs today. We've all had enough."Al looked him up and down and grunted as he accepted the electric gem."It's all there. Plus a little extra for your trouble."With that, he disappeared outside. Laram sighed and leaned against the wall. Catching his breath, he directed everyone to follow him."Let's get back to the guild."
It didn't take long for Regal to find what he was looking for, but that might not have been a good thing. Barely half an hour after the trainer had begun searching the factory, he had come face to face with a wild Electabuzz and nearly became one of the new specials at Thunder Barbeque. The violent Pokémon had immediately loosed a massive surge of electricity at the stranger intruding upon its territory, which Regal only just avoided by sending out his new Luxio to shield him from the blast. Locking eyes with its fellow electric type, Regis bared his fangs and roared a warning at the Electabuzz as its Rivalry ability flooded the lion Pokémon with strength. Regal gave his orders and the Luxio pounced at its prey, matching its opponents Thunder Punch with a Night Slash from its powerful claws.
The two clashed fiercely, only taking pauses from the melee to fire blasts of electricity at each other. It seemed like an evenly matched battle, but the Electabuzz was more familiar with the territory, and took advantage of a lull in the combat to drive its fist through an old part of the wall and drew it back with a handful of old wires and cables. Grinning evilly, the electric Pokémon stuck the cables in its mouth and siphoned off the residual electricity left in the wires to recharge its strength. Crackling with its newfound power, the Electabuzz charged at Regals Luxio once more and started wearing the lion down with its now amped up Thunder Punches.
My other Pokémon will get fried pretty quickly if they try to back up Regis. The trainer thought glumly as he racked his brains for a plan. Maybe if I can find a way to boost Regis like that Electabuzz did...
Scanning the room, Regals eyes quickly locked onto a wild... something tucked away on the far side of the factory. Flipping open his Pokédex, the trainer scanned the unknown Pokémon and prayed that it was something helpful.
"Charjabug: The Battery Pokémon. Brilliant!"
Calling on Regis to hold the line, Regal raced to the bug Pokémon and released Icarus to subdue it. He knew that the Charjabug was half electric type from his Pokédex, but also knew that it preferred to store its electricity for evolution, preferring to stay still so as to conserve energy. In other words, it was an easy target. Sure enough, it didn't put up much of a fight against the bird Pokémon and let itself be caught without much fuss. Sending Magnolia back through the PC system, Regal released his newly caught bug back out into the factory and had Icarus carry its new ally over to where Regis was still clashing with the Electabuzz.
"Drop him onto Regis and then hightail it out of there, Icarus!" Regal commanded.
Releasing the Charjabug from its grasp, the Pidgey soared back to its trainer, who returned it to its ball and commanded his new Pokémon to use String Shot to attach itself onto Regis. With its improvised battery pack resting comfortably on its back, the Luxio took in its ally's power to amplify its own, Discharging an enormous blast of electricity to finally bring down the Electabuzz. Satisfied that it was down for good, Regal sealed the electric type in the Ultra Ball Julia had provided and thanked the two, as well as Icarus, for a job well done. Wiping the sweat off his brow, the trainer breathed a sigh of relief, and then nearly jumped as his Pokégear went off.
The phone call turned out to be Weird Al, the eccentric businessman from Techmech who had hired Regal yesterday for a couple of jobs. Apparently he was looking for a particular kind of item in the abandoned factory where a little bird had told him the trainer was doing a job for Julia. He was already on his way there, and the trainer had wrapped up Julia's request faster than he had been expecting, so Regal agreed to wait and help him search for a little while. He showed up in a timely manner, and the two began digging through the assorted boxes of junk for Al's item, with Icarus flying around the hard to reach areas in case they missed something. It wasn't until almost an hour later when Regal started getting annoyed that he asked the man just what the heck he was looking for.
"An Electric Gem!" Al responded, ignoring the dumbfounded look on the younger mans face. "They're great for powering up my Pokémon!"
Facepalming, the trainer let out a loud sigh before explaining to Al that he had found such a gem earlier while searching for Julia's Electabuzz. Fishing the gem out of his backpack, Regal thrust the jewel into Al's hands and patiently accepted his payment without further comment. He was irritated at the waste of his time, but figured that there wasn't any point in crying over spilt milk. Besides, he had been paid. As he put the money away in his wallet however, the trainer couldn't help but notice the twinkle in Al's eyes. The older man had spotted the shiny new gym badge pinned inside Regals coat, and asked if he was interested in making some more cash. The best part? It would be nice and quick.
"I just want you to battle me." He explained. "I like to test my inventions in real battles, and if you managed to win Harveys badge then you should be more than up to the task. What do you say?"
Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Regal agreed and asked how many Pokémon he should use. Al seemed interested in a Double Battle and asked if that would be acceptable. He had yet to fight a Double Battle yet, so Regal was quick to agree and sent out Icarus and Nova. The two had joined the trainer at almost the same time and were familiar with one another, so he was confident they would work well together. Al sent out two Pokémon of his own, one which Regal recognized and the other which he... sort of recognized. It was an Alolan Raichu, which he had heard about but never actually seen before. Apparently Al's family originally hailed from the tropical region, and that was what the electric type looked liked there.
The surprises didn't end there, however. There was some kind of tank strapped to the back of the tropical Pokémon, and even Al himself seemed to have some kind of doohickey strapped to his arm as he rolled up his sleeves for battle. Narrowing his eyes, Regal tried not to focus on the unknown variables and focus on what he did know as he got ready to rumble.
Al kicked off their battle having his Togedemaru use Electric Terrain, activating the Terrain Extender on the back of his Raichu as well as its Surge Surfer ability. The boost in power to both of his Pokémon, as well as the increased speed of his Raichu, was causing serious problems for Regal and his team. Even after using Agility to boost its own speed, it was taking everything Icarus had to avoid the powerful blasts of electricity from its opponents. Nova wasn't faring much better, having to resort to using Dig to protect itself from the attacks more often than its trainer would like.
"Icarus, use Tailwind!" He commanded. "Nova, trap them with Fire Spin!"
Utilizing the speed boost provided by its partner, the Charmeleon neatly maneuvered into position and began spewing red hot flames at its opponents, trapping them in a coiling mass of fire. It was a good move, but Al simply had his Raichu use it psychic powers to disperse the flames, evening the playing field once more. The older man then used the Wonder Launcher on his arm to pump up his Pokémon even further with an X Sp. Atk, turning the tides in his favor once again as even larger bolts of lightning began to rain down on his opponents team.
The problem for Regal right now was Al's Raichu. Not only was the tropical mouse incredibly fast, but its psychic abilities made getting into close combat nearly impossible. It was the trainers first time battling a psychic type, and unfortunately his team didn't have any super effective attacks to neutralize it... Yet.
Flipping his Pokédex open once more, the trainer scanned both of Al's Pokémon to see if the scheme brewing in his mind was possible. He found what he was looking for, and began calling new commands to his team. First, he had Nova once again brave the powerful blasts of electricity to launch a Flame Burst at their opponents, forcing Al's Raichu to use again use its psychic powers to protect its steel type partner from the super effective hit. With its partner occupied with defending against Nova, Al's Togedemaru was in charge of dealing with Icarus, who was launching Air Slash attacks at the duo. The bird Pokémon proved to be too small and quick to hit with its electric attacks, so Al called for it to use the more accurate Pin Missile to take it down.
It was exactly what Regal had been waiting for. "Now, Icarus!" He cried. "Use Mirror Move and send that back at his Raichu!"
Shifting angles, the Pidgey formed a large spherical mirror between its wings and reflected the bug type Pin Missile back right back at Al's team, striking the psychic type Raichu with an unexpected super effective hit. Both Pokémon were caught off guard by the attack and Regal used the opening to have Nova sneak up from behind them with Dig before bathing both electric types in a scorching hot Flamethrower, finishing them both off for good.
Both Nova and Icarus were hurting and exhausted, but victory was theirs. Impressed by his abilities, Al announced the experiment as a success and thanked Regal for the excellent battle as he gave the trainer his pay. The two opened a few more boxes of junk to look for anything more of value and then went their separate ways, with Al returning to Techmech Street and Regal heading to the Pokémon Center to heal his team before reporting in to Julia. He figured they had more than earned themselves a break.
